Hi gang,
I thought some readers might find the following news of interest. It comes
from Fridays "Edupage" and refers to one more Amiga boosting company that has
hit the dust.
"Escom, the German company that is one of Europe's largest PC retailers, is
seeking protection from its creditors (similar to Chapter 11 protection in
the U.S,), following significant trading losses and losses caused by a stock
write-down. Aggressive expansion into new markets such as the U.K. had
caused storage and supply problems." (Financial Times/Edupage 4 Jul 96)

It can also be found at ftp.funet.fi and a few others I can't remember
off the top of my head :)

Well, imagine that. Sorry about thier bad luck <eg>... I suppose now
Escom will be liquidated to some other computer company (who'll
liquidate to another computer company and so on) and there goes any and
all hopes of ever seeing the Amiga technology revived. Haha... maybe
"we" should buy it :) Like that would ever happen... maybe CMD will seek
Commodore technology from Escom? Would be a kicker to see something give
Windows 95/NT and PC technology a run for it's money... but... we are
all dreamers here I'm afraid...
Anyway, I put win95 through the ringer... guess what... it still can't
keep up with an Amiga 500! Ever try playing tunes and doing anything
else with win95 (or any other operating system save for Macs)??? Ever
hear a record skip? Haha... Sad.
Our fathers (yes, I often refer to the forgotten Commodore guru's as
"fathers") had a technology that could have still been around today if
they hadn't been so... stupid?? Let's face it, C= marketing wasn't
exactly state of the art!
I mean, what did the PC have before the Amiga? Sound? Yes... PC
speakers. Sound Cards are around BECAUSE of the Amiga. And any smart
Graphics designer will tell you that (at the time) nothing could beat
the Amiga for 3d rendering and morphing and with a video toaster... look
out world! Hey, guess that's why PC graphics are so darn popular now too
huh? And, 1996, ten years AFTER Commodore did it, win95/NT would have us
believe that they have the one true and only multitasking operating
system ever designed! Now, add "for the PC" and I'd buy it, but it still
pales in comparison to even the 1.3 operating system of the Amiga... The
reality is, the Amiga was the leader technologically back then...
everything the PC now has is literally because of the Amiga! And there
it goes...
In a way I am kind of glad that Escom if failing... I mean, computer
TV's are cool and all that, but I had higher expectations for the Amiga
technology... but I am but a dreamer :)

Escom isn't liquidating... they're re-organizing. And prior to this
announcement, they had already signed a deal to turn over all the
Commodore/Amiga Technology rights except the Commodore name/Logo to
VIScorp, a Chicago-based firm that utilizes Amiga technology in set-top
boxs. So far as I know, this re-organization was already planned when this
agreement was signed, and will have no effect on the sale.

boxes? That's cool, I suppose it will be the next generation in cable

ACTUALLY, this news does not affect the Amiga at all, because
Escom sold the Amiga technology to yet another company a few months back,
for three times what it had paid for it, BTW.
So although this Escom thing is good trivia, it doesn't affect
the Amiga.
