- Okay. I now have a question about the scripts used with RTCM. When making
- a script with SCRIPTMAKER there is a question that comes up and I have no
- idea how to use it (if I _can_ use it). SCRIPTMAKER comes with the V2.02
- download. The question comes up about "What time to execute the script" or
- something to that effect. Where does the script look for the clock to read
- so it will know when to execute? Does it read the clock setting at the top
- of the screen or is another clock read? Will this feature work with V2.02 or
- do I need a later version?

-
- FirFirst, let me answer the question. The clock read is the clock at
- the top of the screen, so obviously you have to set it when you start
- up RTCMaster. This is the only clock in RTCM.
-
- BF> Will this feature work with V2.02 or do I need a later
- BF> version?
-
- This I don't know as I don't have 2.02 immediately available to me other
- than to do an intensive search or download it. However, there is an
- easy way to determine this. When you have AutoLog installed, press
- CTRL-M to bring up the 'slot' menu, then select slot a. If you are
- prompted to enter a time, 2.02 supports this. If you are not, it does
- not. Mark has kept Script Maker up to date with my work on RTCM, but
- the earlier versions obviously get outpaced like this. So you may be
- seeing this particular thing... and I guess the only thing of any
- comfort to say, if this is not supported by 2.02, is that we are keeping
- things backward compatible as we move forward, to the extent possible
- of course.
-
- For the benefit of any reading this who don't know what we are talking
- about...
-
- At a certain point in RTCM development, I put in a feature whereby you
- could specify a time that a script was to activate, and it would begin
- at that time. This was intended for, and works great at, dialing in
- when you are not around, getting your mail, etc., and then logging off.
- This can save you $$$$$ because the less people online, the faster the
- system runs.
-
- Frank, I'm honestly not sure 2.02 supports this. I have mine all
- archived somewhere... but the test above will give you a quick answer
- for sure.

- Thanks guys for the classes on RTCM it did help. But, on the
- Hot Keys you just listed most for the commands. I need help
- on these:
- C= Q Toggles into Fast Mode....is this the burst mode for the
- 1571 & 1581 drives? If so, will this effect access to
- RamLink? You know RamLink don't use burst mode.
- That is all the the C= key, but here are a few notes.
- C= 0 The Slot Menu... if used to execute a script will
- cause problems with the dial out. It will send the
- HHHHHH immediately after the carrier detect and before
- GEnie is ready. I have to use CONTROL M to execute
- a script, that will be dialing out.
- C= S Set The Alarm.....will not work if the clock is
- set from RamLink. I have to manual set the clock
- with C= T to get the alarm to work.
- C= 2 F14....is not what's in F14, but prints the letter
- 'A' in the lower window. Not really a problem.
-
- Now for the CONTROL KEYS:
- CTRL D Chr$(4)....what is this to GEnie?
- CTRL X Chr$(24)...what is this to GEnie?
- CTRL Y Chr$(25)...what is this to GEnie?
- CTRL Z Chr$(26)...what is this to GEnie?
- CTRL : Chr$(27) Escape Character what is this to GEnie?
- Break is Chr$(3), right.
-
- Thanks for any help you can provide.

- Here is a problem I am having, first some info:
-
- I am using a flat 128 with upgraded ROM chips and 64k Video,
- 4Meg RamLink, 1750 (this is where the problem is), Aprotek
- 2400 modem, 2 1571 W/JDos, Gemini 10X printer and 1902
- monitor.
-
- The 1750 REU is in Ramlink's Ram Port. Set as partition #31
- partition type DACC. RamLink Switch in Direct position, this
- makes it where the REU can be used as a regular REU or
- (under GEOS, it's GEOS work area and the switch is in the
- Normal position).
-
- This setup allow it to be switched for use under GEOS or
- switched to be uses as a regular REU when I need it to be.
- And, the data is maintained in both positions by RamLink.
- Now, I do let RTCM format it if it has been used for
- something else like GEOS, etc.
-
- Now, here is the problems with the 1750: RTCM running under
- manual control or under a script with autosave of the buffer
- at page 164, ramdos used... the buffer will save ok at page
- 164, that's about 38000 bytes in the buffer and when finished
- will single GEnie for more data and CLOSE THE BUFFER (why?).
- It WILL NOT clear the buffer and WILL NOT reopen the buffer
- to catch new data. Saving to RamLink or one of the drive
- everything is, peach keen. I'm at a lost.....just stopped
- using the REU with RTCM. Oh, sorry I am using version
- 2.02 of RTCM and will order version 2.04 right after the
- Holidays. Good program just a few bugs, that normal...
- still the best for GEnie. To call other boards I use
- DesTerm 2.01.
-
- Everything is turned on, I know what problems off units can
- cause. I also un-plug all other units, same problem.
- So, what do you think is causing RTCM to hate the REU?
- Oh, there is another problem, the buffer will save to the
- REU but will not load files back into the buffer. So here
- is what I have to do. Load FCOPY (CMD) and file copy the
- buffer files to either the RamLink or one of the Drive to
- use them under RTCM. Sequential file reader or word
- processors can read them right from the REU, but not
- RTCM (why)?
-
- REU works with every other program I use it with GEOS,
- CS-D0S, DesTerm, etc.

-
- Here is another problem: Now this takes some explaining, bare
- with me. The problem is RTCM thinks it is on-line no matter
- what you set DCD to in the Easy Boot program. Here is how
- and why that happens.
-
- First I have a Aprotek 2400 modem, the one for the commodore
- computers, plugs right in NO interface needed. Its carrier
- detect LED is on at power up. I know about the "&c1"
- command and uses it, but here is the problem and what I had to
- do to get it working.
-
- In Easy Boot if DCD is left at "0" or ".", then, when RTCM
- boots up it thinks it is on-line and will not sent the modem
- initiation string. That means the modem never gets "&c1"
- command to change the carrier detect single to off. If left
- in this state when calling out the modem WILL go on-line, but
- WILL NOT single RTCM, because the carrier detect signal is
- already on. So, you say change the DCD in easy boot to 16,
- ok but this creates another problem.
-
- Now with DCD=16 and saved in Easy Boot. Turn the computer on
- the modem comes up with is carrier detect on, because this is
- its power up state, load Easy Boot and run. RTCM sees the
- modem as being off-line (no carrier DCD=16) but the carrier
- detect is really on. RTCM sends the initiation string with
- (&c1) to the modem. You got to send this (&c1) or the modem
- will not signal RTCM that it went on-line, when calling out.
- So, the modem now changes the carrier detect single to off
- and RTCM sees this change and thinks it is now on-line. Why
- do this happens, because DCD=16 is poked in RTCM to get it to
- think it is off-line or it will not send the initiation
- string.
-
- This causes scripts to skip the dial-out-log-on potion
- because it thinks it is on-line with Smiley's little face at
- at the top. Had this same problem with a BBS program.
-
- THE PROBLEM IS RTCM WILL NOT SEND THE INITIATION STRING WHEN IT
- THINKS IT IS ON-LINE. IF IT WOULD, ON BOOT UP, NO MATTER THE
- STATE OF THE MODEM, WOULD SEND THE INITIATION STRING (&C1)
- THE CARRIER DETECT WOULD CHANGE AND RTCM WILL HAVE DCD=0
- POKED IN WOULD SEE THE MODEM AS BEING OFF-LINE. THIS WOULD
- FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM IS IT WILL NOT SEND THE
- INITIATION STRING IF IT THINKS IT IS ON-LINE AT BOOT UP.
-
- Now, the fix.
-
- Here is a little program I added to the front of Easy Boot to
- change to modem carrier to off-line (&c1) before RTCM boots.
- And, DCD=0 in EASY BOOT.
-
- 5 fast:open2,2,3,chr$(10)+chr$(0)
- 6 get#2,a$
- 7 print#2, "at&c1"
- 8 sleep 5
- 9 close 2
-
- Line 5 opens the modem at 2400 baud
- Line 6 get any character from modem (TRASH)
- Line 7 send the initiation string to modem
- Line 8 wait for send to be completed
- Line 9 close file
- Line 10 is part of the original Easy Boot
-
- DCD is set to 0 and poked into RTCM to make it think the
- modem is off-line, as it is off-line, because the modem is
- set to (NO CARRIER DETECT) by my little program addition,
- before RTCM is booted up. Now, RTCM will send the initiation
- string (which will not change the carrier detect
- signal....another &c1 will not change anything), but the
- initiation can now set up other needed registers.
-
- But the real soultion is for RTCM to send the initiation
- string on boot up, no matter what. The BBS program mention
- above, had the same problem. You had to set DCD and it
- looked at it before sending the initiation string on boot
- up.

- Slot 'e' in the slot menu is to execute a script right? Haven't
- used a script in a while but I don't recall having any problem with
- using the C= 0 (on keypad) hotkey to jump right to slot 'e'. You

- Dan T: Here are some answers for you...
-
- DT> C= Q Toggles into Fast Mode....is this the burst mode for the
- DT> 1571 & 1581 drives
-
- Actually, C=Q was changed as of 2.03 (which never got released). What
- you describe was just a way to latch it to something until I found
- something else... had nothing to do with the drives... it was the CPU
- being switched into FAST mode... similar to the BASIC 'FAST' command.
-
- DT> C= 0 The Slot Menu... if used to execute a script will cause
- DT> problems with the dial out. It will send the HHHHHH
- DT> immediately after the carrier detect and before GEnie is
- DT> ready
-
- I suspect you have the answer to this already in your later post. There
- is no real difference in entering this here... but you do know, right,
- that C=0 does not execute anything... If you have a name typed in the
- window, it will load that overlay. If you don't, it will just bring up
- the overlay file directory, from which you must pick and enter a name.
- *IF* on the other hand you are referring to C=<zero>, which I believe
- is a hot key entry to the slot menu, you must have a letter typed into
- the user window corresponding to the slot to which you wish to call. Then
- you would skip the SLOT prompt altogether and jump right into the overlay
- at that 'slot'.
-
- DT> C= 2 F14....is not what's in F14, but prints the letter
- DT> 'A' in the lower window. Not really a problem.
-
- C=2 was just a kludge for me because my numeric keypad keys were sticking
- so the next row down was included as the same keys... I'm not sure what
- is happening to you, but those keys were only there as a workaround for
- my old keyboard. :)
-
- DT> CTRL D Chr$(4)....what is this to GEnie?
- DT> CTRL X Chr$(24)...what is this to GEnie?
- DT> CTRL Y Chr$(25)...what is this to GEnie?
- DT> CTRL Z Chr$(26)...what is this to GEnie?
- DT> CTRL : Chr$(27) Escape Character what is this to GEnie?
-
- In all cases, nothing, tho chr$(4) or (24) I have used on GEnie for
- DELete characters in the editors. These characters were included tho
- because I use RTCMaster everywhere, not just on GEnie. Some message
- editors, DLG for instance, use chr$(26) to end a message. CHR$(24) is
- a CANcel in protocols, which I use sometimes for testing... etc. So
- they are mostly nothing to GEnie, but do serve some useful purposes...
- DLG requests 2 chr$(27)s when you connect, as another example.
-
- DT> at page 164, ramdos used... the buffer will save ok at page
- DT> 164, tat's about 38000 bytes in the buffer and when
- DT> finished will single GEnie for more data and CLOSE THE
- DT> BUFFER (why?). It WILL NOT clear the buffer and WILL NOT
- DT> reopen the buffer to catch new data. Saving to RamLink or
- DT> one of the drive everything is, peach keen
-
- This was a problem identified in version 2.02 by R.KIRK. I never did
- find out what the problem was, though it is not in 2.04, so I must have
- fixed it somewhere along the line. On the other hand, I don't use my
- 1750 like you do, but the close of the buffer is definitely not in 2.04.
-
- DT> the buffer will save to the REU but will not load files back
- DT> into the buffer. So here is what I have to do. Load FCOPY
- DT> (CMD) and file copy the buffer files to either the RamLink
- DT> or one of the Drive to use them under RTCM. Sequential
- DT> file reader or word processors can read them right from the
- DT> REU
-
- This one I can't explain cuz I have always been able to do this. You
- *are* talking about using RAMDOS, right, and not DMA. If you are
- talking DMA, RTCM can still load it back in, though only as whole buffers.
- But if that is the case, seq editors or word pros would not be able to
- get that data directly either. O... of course, FCOPY is a file copier.
- Could it be that you are not setting the device number to the number
- specified for RAMDOS... default is 13. You have to set your source
- device to that number in order to load from that unit????
-
- DT> when RTCM boots up it thinks it is on-line and will not sent
- DT> the modem initiation string. That means the modem never
- DT> gets "&c1" command to change the carrier detect single to
- DT> off. If left in this state when calling out the modem WILL
- DT> go on-line, but WILL NOT single RTCM, because the carrier
- DT> detect signal is already on. So, you say change the DCD in
- DT> easy boot to 16, ok but this creates another problem.
-
- A very good explanation that also explains a LOT of the questions I've
- been asked and been unable to answer over the last year or so... let's
- consider this further... (And some nice detective work on your part. It
- is going to prove very helpful!)
-
- DT> This causes scripts to skip the dial-out-log-on potion
- DT> because it thinks it is on-line with Smiley's little face at
- DT> at the top.
-
- Again, nice work! This is a BIG help!
-
- DT> THE PROBLEM IS RTCM WILL NOT SEND THE INITIATION STRING WHEN
- DT> IT THINKS IT IS ON-LINE. IF IT WOULD, ON BOOT UP, NO
- DT> MATTER THE STATE OF THE MODEM, WOULD SEND THE INITIATION
- DT> STRING (&C1) THE CARRIER DETECT WOULD CHANGE AND RTCM WILL
- DT> HAVE DCD=0
-
- DCD will always have to be set for your modem but your assessment of the
- situation is right on the money. The reason I did what I did, which was
- a later addition, was that one of the former sysops used to have lockup
- troubles which were later traced to a cordless phone. Anyway, everytime
- she got locked, she'd dial back in, and everyone in the conference would
- get sent her init string... I solved it, but I see now I introduced what
- a lot of people have been complaining about, but not describing as well
- as you.
-
- DT> 5 fast:open2,2,3,chr$(10)+chr$(0)
- DT> 6 get#2,a$
- DT> 7 print#2, "at&c1"
- DT> 8 sleep 5
- DT> 9 close 2
-
- I like your fix better than my changing the way I did things... tho your
- string would get sent in a conference too. I'd like some other opinions
- on this one. I do prefer your code to changes in mine. Anyone have any
- opinions on this?

-
- Yes I do mean C=(zero) and yes I have typed the letter 'e' before pressing
- C=(zero). The HHHHH are sent before Genie is ready. So, I use CONTROL M it
- works great. Just not a hot key.
-
- DT> the buffer will save to the REU but will not load files back
- DT> into the buffer.
-
- EB> You *are* talking about using RAMDOS, right, and not DMA.
-
- Yes I am talking about RAMDOS I was using the one supplied with RTCM v2.02 but
- is seems there is something wrong with it. So I download a new copy of the
- RAMDOS file and it still won't load from the REU but fixed some more problems.
- I have decided not to use the REU with V2.02 I will just use the RamLink until
- I get V2.04.
-
- DT> Sequential file reader or word processors can read them
- DT> right from the REU

- EB> But if that is the case, seq editors or word pros would not

-
- Yes the seq editors or word pros are using the same verison of RAMDOS that was
- used with RTCM v2.02.
-
- DT> Load FCOPY (CMD) and file copy the buffer files to either
- DT> the RamLink or drives
-
- EB> O... of course, FCOPY is a file copier.
-
- Yes, RAMDOS was used with FCOPY. Worked great. Just one question here. The
- 64 verison of Ramdos works with FCOPY, but the 128 verison of RAMDOS will not
- work with FCOPY. I tried moving the pages around to other locations, no
- change will not work with 128 verison RAMDOS v4.5.
-
- EB> Could it be that you are not setting the device number to
- EB> the number specified for RAMDOS... default is 13. You have
- EB> to set your source device to that number in order to load
- EB> from that unit????
-
- Yes, I am setting the REU to device 13 and the source in RTCM v2.02 to 13.
- The copier in v2.02 will not work with the REU either and will not work with
- different partation on RamLink. I tried setting the different partations
- inside the copier before using the copier. But, from drive to drive or
- RamLink to/from drive it OK.
-
- Enough is enough.....see you guys later. Thanks in advance.

-
- CONTROL M is a 'hot key' combination that is used to call up a prompt for
- you to enter which overlay slot you want to execute. To use it for running
- a script, have the autolog overlay in memmory and a script installed. Now
- use CONTROL M and when prompted enter 'e'. The Autol9g overlay will execute

- You *might* want to check out Mark's documentation regarding when the

- is, but this is where the script will start from if you are already

-
- The new overlays for 3.00 will probably never ask you for a slot.
- They will be written from now on to go to a slot the programmer

-
- The CTRL-M function in versions 2.04 and before is only 'hot' if there is
- a letter typed in the user window. Otherwise, you go to the slot
- selection menu.
-
- BTW, RK, did you see the bit of this thread regarding the carrier detect

- Roman. Try them out and se which one you like.

- If a new version of RTCM is in works here are a few suggestions.
-
- 1. Have an indication of which bank one has used during DMA mode.
-
- My problem is as I go along saving the buffer to the Banks I finish and now
- have a half full buffer which I want to save to a bank but don't have anyway
- to know which ones are empty. I work around this by always saving to Bank 7
- but always worry that it may have been used already. Having RTCM to
- automatically save to the next bank would be a possible solution also.
-
- 2. Have a page capability while readig the buffer.
-
- My finger gets alfully tired holding the up/dn key down to sroll. Replacing
- the T/B Jump capability with paging would be Ok with me. I haven't found a
- need for T/B anyway.
-
- Thanks

- Dick:

-
- Not exactly sure how to go about doing this Dick, but I *can* make a
- suggestion for you as to how to tell which one to use...I *think* so
- anyway... I'll have to look at my code though... The bank should be
- incremented with each autosave. If you start at zero, use c=z to get
- the file counter... it is prepended to the filename. This should tell
- you which bank will be used next... like I said, I have to check my
- code... and I think that if you use c=w, it *should* purge the last
- buffer to the next available bank... gotta check my code to make sure.
-
- RK> 2. Have a page capability while reading the buffer.
-
- This one is easy... it has always been in there. You just must not have
- seen that in the docs. T/B jump to the top and bottom of a page, SHIFT
- T/B jump to the top and bottom of the buffer, and CTRL-T/B page ahead and
- back... and you can hold them down to scroll through the buffer. Another
- trick I like to use is to do a search on CATEGORY... then just get each
- message from the start.... if there is more than one page, I just
- 'R'esume the search...
-
- Some of the features I've included in the new version are:
-
- o screen blanks after a period of inactivity at the keyboard. Back on
- when a key is pressed
- o 48K Scrollback buffer. All the same capabilities as the RAM buffer
- including search, print, scroll, etc.
- o buffer printing and saving from within the buffer
- o Marking and unmarking are now discrete functions that can be done and
- undone without affecting the other marks... i.e. mark or unmark the
- top or bottom separately
- o viewing from search mode no longer changes the marks
- o move data easily from scrollback buffer to RAM buffer for editing if
- desired
- o All dflt., fkey., strg., ovrl., and any similar game files, etc.
- are now loaded by moving a light bar over the file name and pressing
- RETURN. Same with loading buffer files... and buffer files are no
- automatically recognized as to type and loaded accordingly
- o The C=z screen has been totally redone to display all 4 drive settings
- and paths and the alarm setting if any
- o the ^m function will now, for almost all cases, enter overlays at slots
- I specify when writing the overlay. This may be different in
- exceptional cases. Also, when an overlay is loaded, for the most part
- it will auto-jump to this slot as well
- o All new overlays have a better trap for version errors. This won't
- help loading old versions into 3.00, but all future versions will trap
- and notify correctly.
- o I added an 'ALTERNATE' drive setting for cases when you are auto-saving
- and your disk fills. If specified, the buffer and subsequent buffers
- will be saved to the ALTERNATE drive, including a path if specified
- o Full support for partitions/paths/directories is now installed. This
- means a couple more entries when changing device numbers, but it is
- well worth it. This will also be carried into the overlays.
- o File selection routines now support 255 files instead of the 100 of
- earlier versions.... this applies more to the overlays like copier and
- Ymodem and Arc..
- o New abilities at the DOS prompt to change the floating device with the
- # character, which will toggle it.
- o Really nice new counters for copier.... easier to watch progress of
- operations.
- o I added the ability to the Editor to send files from disk over the
- modem... and also to be able to insert a file from disk into the file
- in memory at the cursor position.
-
- I've upgraded the main program, the Editor, Copier, Autolog, and Defaults
- overlays. Working on Ymodem now. Also did some surgery on the boot
- programs for clock setting improvements, etc. Now on to some of the
- other questions...
-
- NO> Please, can someone tell how to change fonts and, if you will,
- NO> recommend a nice clean one.
-
- If you look at an early line in the boot program, you will see where the
- font file is loaded. Just change that line and resave the boot program.
- I also like the Roman font, but there are other easy ones. You can check
- them all out using The.Outlaw's suggestion. Here is the section from
- my boot that you would want to change....
-
- 40 fast:f$="font.roman":if f$>"" then begin
-
- Just change f$ to a font you want to use... simple as that.. :)

- Ed, you did make the change in 2.04 to change the font within the Default
- overlay. Made it easy that way :>

- Cam, I perused the Default overlay or, rather dflt.mysetup and could not find
- a way to install a new font. However, your suggestion to modify line 40 of
- EZ,boot wwas tjhe way to go. I had a time choosing between CBM.SET and EASY
- READ. Finally chose the latter.
- Appreciate the help. Yours too, Ed. Nate

- PLEASE, PLEASE when describing a problem with RTCM DO NOT use the phrase 1_?
- as some of us are using scripts that turn on the buffer with 1_? and turn off
- the buffer with the same. I have lost messsages for the last two days because
- this was used. This is the second time I have requested this. Note I used the
- _ to mark a space. @s

- Cam:
- TO> change in 2.04 to change the font within the Default overlay
-
- Yeh, you are right, but I don't think that change was supported in
- versions earlier than 2.04. The boot program has always been there to
- change. :)
-
- TA> when describing a problem with RTCM DO NOT use the phrase 1_?
- TA> as some of us are using scripts
-
- I'm inclined to agree with you Tom as that stuff affects me too. Is
- it possible for you to add a carriage return to your 'expect' string
- in Dialogue? That is what I did in my scripts. It is not 100%
- foolproof, but catches the bulk of them. The ideal way is to set your
- prompts to chr$(31) like Mark does so you never get burned. But I don't
- do that, and one of the reasons is that I don't think most others do it
- and I want to use the setup that will make it easiest to answer questions.
- I used to get burned a lot with this in Email as well. :)
-
- BTW, I don't know what you have your scripts set up to do... if just read,
- buffer, save, and logoff, for instance, this won't apply. But you can
- always go back and 'bro all new' tho you'll probably get more than you
- want unless you did a lot of ignoring. :)

- RK: I checked into a couple of things and the news on at least one of
- them you may find to be good...
-
- wrt to finding out which REU bank is currently unused, there is *sort of*
- a way to do this. The bank selection follows the auto-count of the
- autosave function. What this means is that you should set your counter
- to zero before starting an operation that will auto-save to your REU,.
- If you are booting the program, this is done automatically. If you need
- to reset it manually, the command in RTCM 2.04 is ^4, which brings up
- the prompt to set your counter from 0 - 99. Set it to zero. The
- counter is incremented automatically each time the buffer is saved to the
- REU. At the end, when you have a partial buffer that did not force an
- auto-save, which is the situation you described in your message, the
- ^w command will auto-purge your buffer to the next REU bank just as you
- wish. There is no present way to tell when a bank has been used. It
- would require code that I simply don't have room to write. But RTCM does
- give you a way to do what you asked at present. Here are some other things
- to think about....
-
- In your logon script, if your buffers would take more banks of the REU than
- your REU supports, the REU save would be switched off and subsequent saves
