This is one of a series of conferences with people who have or have had an impact on the 64/128 Commodore world. Nick Rossi is the programmer that brought a sophisticated terminal program for the Commodore 64. This expanded what the 64 could do in the online world.
We are starting the two part transcripts with the moment that Nick entered the RTC. This is about fifteen minutes before the actual conference is to start. Part two will deal with the after conference dialogue.
Over all the transcript records over two hours of discussion. The buffers of THE.OUTLAW, GEOS-TIM, and C128-QT.PIE were needed. The majority of editing was done by Cam Stewart (THE.OUTLAW), with the remaining touch up by Sherry Freedline (C128-QT.PIE), and Tim Hewelt (GEOS-TIM).
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Hey had a little trouble getting in, but it's working
now...
<GEOS-TIM> We are glad you did....
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Well, I'm ready to start anytime!
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> I don't use Novaterm either, but I'm staying. :)
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Glad to see you this time, Nick. The last time I was
at a "Noavterm" conferenc
<L.VICTORY> HI
<THE.OUTLAW> Hi Larry
<[Pat] P.TROTTER> HI LV
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> you did not show up. Apparently, that was when your computer went down. :(. By
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> the way, that was the Qlink conf. I was talking about.
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Yes, this has been one eventful year.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (in June '93).
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I had computer problems, lost lots of programs, moved about five times, graduated, etc.
<C128-QT.PIE> Hi Reub!
** <[Reub] R.NEAZER> was <R.NEAZER>.
<GEOS-TIM> You have been busy
<GEOS-TIM> Hi Reub
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> That particular time was a bad one, esp. for my computer...
<THE.OUTLAW> Hi Rueb!
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> Hi Tim
<L.VICTORY> Hello, Reub!
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Well, anyway I'm glad to see you tonight, Nick.
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> Hi L.Victory
<GEOS-TIM> Yes, I'm sure we are going to get a lot of great info, and give a lot of great
<THE.OUTLAW> Hi Chuck!
<C128-QT.PIE> Hi Chuck!
** <[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> was <C.GRIFOR>.
<GEOS-TIM> questions.:)
<GEOS-TIM> Hi Chuck
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> Hi and Howdy--Looks around slowly.
<C128-QT.PIE> <--hides from Chuck
<GEOS-TIM> We are about 8 minutes from official conference time.
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> Where's QT...hiding???
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> There are already quite a few more people than any Q-Link conference I gave..
<GEOS-TIM> That is a good sign, Nick
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> "It's National Gorilla Suit Day!"
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Hey, there
<GEOS-TIM> I have found that the conference transcripts get quite a few downloads too
<[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Hey, there's someone from Longmeadow, MA. A friend of mine made a lot of public access TV shows there.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I know. During that Qlink conference in June '93, I think a total of only 4
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> :::POOOP:::(use of poof restricted to GEOS-TIM exclusively)
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> people showed up.
<GEOS-TIM> So quite a few people will benefit from tonights session
<C128-QT.PIE> giggle...Mr. Incognito
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> Not time for questions yet?
** <[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> was <[N.Rossi] CBM-PRESS>.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> There, better.
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> What kind of shows, Nick? BTW, I'm Doug Cotton from CMD.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Ever watch cable access there? Years back, he had a series called "Valley of the Shadows", and also made two features, "Redmeadow" and "Redmeadow II" (Longmeadow --> Redmeadow, get it?)
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> ^I'm the guy who gets your mail. :)
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> Hello CMD Doug
** <[Ardmore855] C.GRIFOR> was <[Chuck] C.GRIFOR>.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> You get my mail?
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> I don't catch much TV, no... guess I never saw it, though I only moved here
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> about 4 years ago.
<C128-QT.PIE> Welcome Rob!
<GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Nick Rossi Novaterm 9.5 conference ! <GEOS-TIM> 4 minutes till conference time
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> Mr Nick--Is there a 128 version of Nova Term V9.4?
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> So to speak, Nick. I get a lot of Q's about Novaterm since we ship it with SwiftLink.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I do have to say that GEnie clock is very accurate. :)
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> or 9.5?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> There's no 128 version of Novaterm.
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> phoooey
<THE.OUTLAW> Play Nice Chuck :>
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> I loved Nova Term but love the C128 too.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (Unless you run it in C64 mode.)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I did send a copy of version 9.3 and 9.4 to you guys, but I still get mail from recent SwiftLink buyers who have 9.1. Not upgrading?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I never owned a 128! :)
<R.BOYLES2> fine
<[Chuck] C.GRIFOR> Alas >=:
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> Actually, we prefer that users have a 'push' to send you the fee...
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I never did ethier. And probably never will. :)
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> Do you upgrade them if they do?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Oh - do you notify them that there's newer versions available?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I upgrade everyone who registers.
<GEOS-TIM> Okay.....We will be going into a listening mode for about a half hour or so. Questions will be asked by typing /rai
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> I'm not sure. I assumed your docs mentioned getting the latest version if you send in the reg. fee.
<[Incognito] CMD-DOUG> We could put something in though. I'll put that on my to-do list....
** <GEOS-TIM> Room is now listen-only.
<GEOS-TIM> I want to welcome Nick Rossi, author of Novaterm to our RTC. He will be talking about his new upgrade 9.5, and answering any questions that you might have.
<GEOS-TIM> We will be in a listening mode for about a half hour.
<GEOS-TIM> Nick what are some of the new features of 9.5?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I'll briefly mention the few changes in Novaterm 9.5 before taking questions. Some of them may be answered for you. First of all, the purpose of Novaterm 9.5 is to make 9.4 more robust.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> This last year ('93) was very eventful, so I had little time to put into major new features ...but, there are several known bugs from 9.4 that have been fixed:
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * You can list the terminal mode menu on the printer now (C= +)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * The buggy file-to-printer options have been corrected
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * Ymodem batch has received some needed overhauling...
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * The phone book has a default file name again, so you won't end up with those "," files when you save one
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * You're once again able to select from three different SwiftLink addresses
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> * The BBS mode now correctly detects the caller's baud rate.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> There are a couple of new conveniences... If you have a script file assigned to a phone entry, the script is loaded BEFORE autodialing begins. That way, when you connect, ti file from disk.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> You can also specify the name of a script to run when you first start up the program.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> The auto buffer save (when full) has been changed some...before, Novaterm would send the XOFF character, wait a second, and begin saving data.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Now, Novaterm waits for the remote to stop transmitting. Why wasn't it like this to begin with?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> ...it's not quite as simple to detect when the remote stops sending as you might think. Now, I have it wait until a full second goes by without any data coming through.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Anyway... I had a couple of mini-tragedies with some source code over the summer.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> The source code for the ANSI Editor and for the Kermit protocol were both lost in a hard drive crash.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> The existing ones will have to do. Reconstructing source code is an immense, arduous task that I don't have the time for, unfortunately...
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Right now, I'm working on having Novaterm translated into some European languages.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> There will definitely be versions of Novaterm 9.5 in German, Dutch, French, and Finnish. I'm still on the lookout for someone who can translate into Italian, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I think the next thing to do with Novaterm is to improve its performance with high-speed modems.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> After a lot of investigation and talking to different people, I'm doubtful that a fast 80 column display can be accomplished within the available memory.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> (I should say "faster") But file transfers should be possible at high speed.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I'd also like to add the ability to use an REU as a large buffer, rather than just a RAMdisk.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Unfortunately, I don't own an REU either! I'm looking for a cheap used one. Without it, it's difficult to properly test REU functions, especially DMA, which is necessary for using it as a buffer.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Oh, and there's one more thing - there's a possibility that a limited Zmodem receive-only protocol may be added in the future.
<GEOS-TIM> Wow! That would be great
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> It won't be any faster or more efficient than Ymodem, because blocks of data must be saved as they come in,
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> ...streaming isn't possible with a disk drive. But with DMA access to an REU, it could be nice.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> It's going to be a wait & see thing...the crash recovery and other nice features will have to wait until the basic implementation is working.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> These are all the things I'd like to implement. Unfortunately, with sharply declining registrations, there will be a limit to how much time I can afford to spend on these enhancements.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Now, I'd be glad to answer questions, after rambling on for a while.
** <GEOS-TIM> THE.OUTLAW, you can talk now.
<GEOS-TIM> Cam has a question
<THE.OUTLAW> Nick, Have been recently forced to 64 mode..
<THE.OUTLAW> I used 9.4 in 80 col and had problems with the chat mode.. always being typed over by the host computer. Has this
been fixed?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> What type of host system were you using?
<THE.OUTLAW> I was in here on GEnie in the RTC
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I wasn't aware that that was happening. There will be difficulty if you are using ANSI or VT102 on a
system that requires the full screen for displays.
<THE.OUTLAW> I was using just 'standard' terminal settings .. I have no use for asni at this time...
<THE.OUTLAW> I know the 80 col chat is across the bottom of the screen and when someone else spoke ...what I was typing dissappeared
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Yes - is the rest of the text just writing over the top of it? I don't have that problem on my end.
<THE.OUTLAW> yes that is correct, I'm used to having a 'chat' window and that was rather annoying to me.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I'm using the chat feature now, and it isn't doing that. Of course, this is version 9.5. That may be something I fixed a while back, but it's been a while...
<THE.OUTLAW> Possible.. I'll be looking forward to trying 9.5, I only keep up with your program to help out 64 users here when I can...
<THE.OUTLAW> I find Novaterm quite easy to use. Even without the docs. :>
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> That's good - it's supposed to be that way!
<THE.OUTLAW> I used it for 3 months before I found the docs which is why I have recommended the program to others. Thanx .
** <GEOS-TIM> THE.OUTLAW, you are listen-only.
<GEOS-TIM> Tim Phelps has a question
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I lose characters while using 9600 baud (while reading text, not during transfers). Now this performance-improvement you were talking about earlier, is that part of it?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> That would be, yes. If you're at 9600 bps, your modem will respond to RTS/CTS flow control. In 80 column mode, however, the display speed is REALLY slow.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Thanks.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> It's a hi-res bitmapped screen, and every character has to be drawn.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Scrolling requires an enormous amount of byte-copying.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> That's why you have to use triple-scrolling at 2400 bps.
<GEOS-TIM> Thank you for your question. :) -Tim
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> XON/XOFF is a poor flow control method...hopefully, RTS/CTS will improve things.
<GEOS-TIM> D. Ward has a question.
<D.WARD13> Have you thought about a GEOS full featured terminal program?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I don't use GEOS. However, since all of Novaterm's features require pretty much all the memory in the 64, I don't know how you'd be able to put them all under GEOS...
<D.WARD13> Thanks, just wondering. :)
<GEOS-TIM> Thank you for your question. :) -Tim
<GEOS-TIM> Rob Boyles has a question.
<R.BOYLES2> how do I obtain novaterm 9.5 and what monitor is best monitor to use in 80 colm,w/64.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Your best bet is a good quality Commodore monitor. TV sets or questionable monitors are very hard to read in 80 cols. I've actually had the most success with an old green CGA monitor from an old XT. Nice and
crisp.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Novaterm 9.5 will be available on GEnie, on Internet, and by mail request.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Remind me later to give out the new address...
<R.BOYLES2> cost w/ docs?
<GEOS-TIM> Okay
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> It's US $20 for registration...with registration, you have the option to purchase a laser-printed copy of the docs for US $15.
<R.BOYLES2> done!
<GEOS-TIM> Tim PHelps has another question
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I'm a registered user and I received your disk in August. However, I've not received NT 9.5. (The disk that I recieved was 9.4, the program I've registered for.) Is that "too soon" for you to send me the upgrade because I
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> remember reading that you can't afford to send out a new update to everyone
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Novaterm 9.5 has not been released yet.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> all the time. And thus, I would have to get the program myself? Thanks.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Oh, it hasn't. I'm sorry. I've heard that it was. :X
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Unfortunately, there will be a change in what you get with registration, again because registrations have dropped off considerably in the last two years.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> As soon as you register, you receive a disk with the most recent version, and a title screen with your name & address instead of the shareware notice.
<GEOS-TIM> Thank you for your question. :) -Tim
<GEOS-TIM> Steve Eyrse has a question, for you. After this question we will be in informal mode.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> From now on, when new versions come out, or new modules are available, you'll be notified by mail immediately.
<GEOS-TIM> Sorry, jumped the gun.:)
<S.EYRSE> HI Nick .. is the Snohomish address still valid? As I just sent a check yesterday..?
<GEOS-TIM> Address opportunity !
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Yes, the Snohomish address will be valid for a while still. There are a lot of copies of 9.4 around with that address.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> But the new, permanent address, starting with version 9.5, is:
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Nick Rossi, 10002 Aurora Ave N #1159, Seattle WA 98133
<GEOS-TIM> Thank you for your question. :) -Tim
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Stuff will be forwarded there from Snohomish.
<S.EYRSE> Yes I have 9.4 So you need not send a copy but I'm looking forward to 9.5
<GEOS-TIM> I will give Reub a chance to ask a question and we will go out of listen mode
<GEOS-TIM> Go ahead Reub
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> Nick, the 'save buffer when full routine' seems to look for device 9 even if device 8 was selected. If no dev 9 the system will crash
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> was this problem addressed in 9.5??
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Check under the "Device settings" menu.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> All buffer options use the device number specified next to "Buffer drive" in the "Device settings" menu.
** <GEOS-TIM> Room is now in the talk mode.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> If you left that as #9 and turned off your device 9, it won't work.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Shouldn't crash, though... it should just not do anything. I'll take a look.
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> If dev 8 was selected it still looks for 9
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> If your "Current drive" is device 8, it still changes to whatever you specify on the device settings menu as the "Buffer drive."
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> dev 8 is specified
<GEOS-TIM> Are there any more questions, comments, or observations?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> You may want to check your other settings...I haven't run into that problem.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> When I use NT 9.4 with GEnie, and after pressing Cntrl-Q to resume text
<S.EYRSE> I'm allways forgetting to reset 9 leaving Geos (where it is 11) but have never
<S.EYRSE> had nova 9.4 crash because of it..
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (after pressing Cntrl-S) the text would go to top of the screen and write over
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> the old text. Any solutions?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> For some reason, GEnie forces you to use local echo. Ctrl-S is the "home" key on C-64's.
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> That happens if echo is off on Genie setup..
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I think you can change the pause key on GEnie, so you can press something else to pause (like Ctrl-K).
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Also, Nick, what do have in the making for future Novaterms?
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Thanks.
<S.EYRSE> Nick would that be the same as the X-On X-Off?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> DMA with an REU, RTS/CTS flow control, possibly Zmodem receive... all possibilities.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Right. Novaterm 9.5 is what you'd call a "minor" upgrade. :)
<L.VICTORY> I just wish there was a block delete option in the nova text editor.
<GEOS-TIM> Hi D.Ward
<GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Nick Rossi Novaterm 9.5 conference ! !
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I've actually been working on that (the block delete/move/copy) - it sort of went to the wayside when life got hectic..
<L.VICTORY> Keep up the good work and good luck on your European adventure or is that venture?
<GEOS-TIM> Nick, Bottom line on improvements in Novaterm, Is if you use Novaterm, Register
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I'd also like to put together an 80 column text editor, but that's another time consumer...
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Right, Tim
<GEOS-TIM> Hi M.Gorman
<GEOS-TIM> Welcome to the Nick Rossi Novaterm 9.5 conference ! !
<M.GORMAN3> I just found out about it just now.
<GEOS-TIM> We will have transcripts uploaded in a few days
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Development will become a little easier as soon as the C64S, the emulator for the PC, is released...
<M.GORMAN3> OK will check it out then.
<GEOS-TIM> If you have a question, ask away.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Transcripts. That seemed to be a rarity on Q for at least a year. :(
<S.EYRSE> Now WAIT Nick what is this C64S emulator???
<M.GORMAN3> agree.
<GEOS-TIM> We have several in the libs, at the moment
<M.GORMAN3> no can't think of any right now.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Q-Link has had that problem with releasing new uploads which has killed the whole system..
<THE.OUTLAW> I'm fairly qwik about getting the Transcripts edited and uploaded tim. :>
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Present ones (like since Jan. 93?)
<M.GORMAN3> I know, I havn't even been on Q in over a month.
<GEOS-TIM> I know, Cam you do a great job
<THE.OUTLAW> :>
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I won't go into too much detail right now, but watch for a new Commodore 64 emulator for 386-and-up...I've been using beta versions of it and it's nearly 100% compatible. Plays games.
<M.GORMAN3> is 9.5 avalible on here, I have a 128 but I half to check it out.
<S.EYRSE> As long as we have taken that path..Has anyone been on Q of late??
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Novaterm 9.5 will be released pretty soon.
<GEOS-TIM> I was on a few days ago....
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I haven't been on Q link since mid-Dec. 93
<S.EYRSE> From you Nick or elsewhere..the emulator? And how was it TIM ?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I check Q for my mail, but traffic is so low there that I'll be cancelling my account soon.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (when I received my Swiftlink)
** <[C= World] CMD-DOUG> was <[Incognito] CMD-DOUG>.
<C128-QT.PIE> :)
<[C= World] CMD-DOUG> Q is definately a shadow of it's former self.
<M.GORMAN3> I will to soon.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Nick, will you come back to GEnie?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> The emulator was written by a guy in Slovenia, being distributed in the U.S. by Seattle Lab in Kirkland, Wa. Don't have their phone number handy. Contact them for more info...
<GEOS-TIM> I have some free minutes left on Qlink....so I'll be on for a little while longe
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (after you cancel Q, that is)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Does GEnie have Internet access now?
<GEOS-TIM> Yes
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> The best way to send me e-mail is to my Internet address.
<M.GORMAN3> I have 100.000 Q-thingies I havn't even used yet, I won them in playing name that tune.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> It has e-mail. Otherwise, I'm not sure.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> "voyager@eskimo.com"
<C128-QT.PIE> Yes, you can send Internet mail via GEnie
<[C= World] CMD-DOUG> Just Inet mail though... no 'real' FTP access...
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I used up all of my Qpons when I dropped Q.
<GEOS-TIM> I imagine we will see that one of these days.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (another minor reason for me leaving Q)
<GEOS-TIM> Hi Maurice, didn't see you there
<S.EYRSE> What to surf the net...:)
<M.GORMAN3> well got to go, see you all later.
<M.RANDALL2> Just been listening.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Internet's the greatest thing since sliced bread, to me... :)
<C128-QT.PIE> Good Night Mike!
<GEOS-TIM> Night Mike
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I check mail there about twice a day, so if you send mail to "voyager@eskimo.com", I'll definitely get it quick.
<GEOS-TIM> Thanks for coming.
<M.GORMAN3> By the way, I realy liked the last nova, but since I am partialy blind the 80col dosn't work for me, other than that it is great.
<M.GORMAN3> I just wanted to give my openion.
<S.EYRSE> So Nick where in the Seattle area are you tieing into the net?
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Anyway, Nick, asking my question again, will [you] be coming back to GEnie?
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Thanks - have you tried the wide 80 column font?
<M.GORMAN3> eskimo right.
<GEOS-TIM> Steve is a Washington, citizen
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> How much is GEnie these days?
<M.RANDALL2> That's where 40 columns programs like NT have an advantage over 128's and IBMs.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> $8.95 per month and four free hours. $3 per hour after that.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I use Eskimo North - great Unix system with full Internet access, just like I was back in school...my own directory and everything.
<M.GORMAN3> Nick I wrote yo a message on there, did you get it.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> When did you send it? I haven't been on since this morning.
<M.GORMAN3> well I do half to go bye all.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Nick, when I received my registered copy of the NT program, I noticed that the
<C128-QT.PIE> Bye Mike!
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> My finances are limited these days, but I will consider GEnie.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> envelope and the letter was addressed Burbank. Did/do you go to school in or
<M.GORMAN3> Oh it was a while back I posted something on the 64 forum or whatever it is and you responded and I wrote back to that responce, it was a couple of weeks ago when i had my 2 week trial.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> It depends on how often people ask questions about Novaterm here...
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> around the San Fernando Valley?
** <M.GORMAN3> has left.
<L.VICTORY> When I use C=q(chat mode) in 80 column just now it was being written over also
<GEOS-TIM> It seems like we get a lot of questions in the RTC about Novaterm
<[C= World] CMD-DOUG> Only about every other day, Nick. :)
<L.VICTORY> I have 9.4 btw.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I went to school at Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA, graduated last May. I went to USC in the fall for grad school in film production, but couldn't afford to stay.
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I have had many temporary addresses, but my permanent (Snohomish) address was always the right one to use. :)
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> I'm using 9.4 now and not having that problem
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> (While at USC, I lived in Burbank)
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> I'm just wondering since I find it interesting that the author, at least
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> temporarily, lived at the other side of the San Fernando Valley (Reseda is in the west end, next to Northridge, and yes, the same area of the Jan. 17, 6.8 earthquake.)
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> :)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Yes, I'm very familiar with the LA area - I used to work in Canoga Park, live in Burbank, go to school downtown...and I hope I never have to live there again. :)
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Ah, it's not that bad. :)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> I guess I'm just a Seattle person at heart...thought I wanted the non-stop sunshine, but I just don't have the required patience to live there.
<L.VICTORY> I reset to 80 column mode again and everything is writing above me for now.
<[C= World] CMD-DOUG> Heh, try Phoenix. More sunshine, less hectic.
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Yes, I've heard a few of the people from smaller towns said that. I'm thinking of moving myself (more for job-related reasons, though)
<[Reub] R.NEAZER> =
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> (By the way, I don't plan to move to Washington, so rest assured this is one
<[Tim Phelps] D.PHELPS1> Los Angeleno who will NOT be moving to Washington. :)
<[Nick Rossi] CBM-PRESS> Good, then we don't have to firebomb your house. ;)
