- If you ar getting Possible cause of a lock-up... If you have a 2400 baud
- modem, DON'T select RTS/CTS flow control. Only high speed modems support
- this. If you select RTS/CTS with a slow modem, the the modem may hold the CTS
- line low, and Novaterm will go into an infoinite loop waiting for it to go
- high (that's how RTS/CTS flow control works - the modem raises and lowers
- CTS). If you have saved this in the onconfiguration, the only way to correct
- it is to delete the config file "nov"nova data 9.5".
-
- BTW, Thanks for the help in replying to these quetions...stions... Nick

- When I used to use Novaterm, a common problem that I had was it would lock up
- after it was done loading, just before the menu. Of course, the problem was
- solved after I remembered that I had the configuration saved with a Swiftlink
- default, and was using a 2400 baud modem connected via user port rs232
- interface. I just plugged in my Swiftlink, reloaded and it worked fine.

- computer has been shut off the screen will come up but it will put on the
- screen with the NOVATERM name on it and then will lock up and the MENU will
- not come on.. Hope someone can help. I really want to use NOVATERM.

- The problem is with the 'nova data file'. Only solution that I know is to
- D/L the program again. You probably have a bad file. When NT 9.5 was first
- U/L'd to genie there was a problem with the u/l. You may have that original
- u/l. You may only need to d/l the first two '.sfx'. You may only need the
- first sfx. Do the first sfx, if that doesn't do it go back and get the
- second.
- Hope this solves your problem......

-
- Do you mean after the buffer save (that is, when the contents of the buffer
- are dumped to disk), the program will lock up while the script is on? If it's
- that, then I know what you're talking about because I have just experienced
- this, although I thought I had fixed this problem. :/
-
- Because of this, I'm debating of the "param 7e1" line really needs to be
- included. So, you can delete it if you want. (I had GEnie with the default
- settings of 8n1 parameters but I thought this was the cause of the above
- described problem. Now I see it wasn't. :/).
-
- By the way, with the exception of transferring files (where from what I
- understand GEnie needs to be set at 8n1), GEnie doesn't care if you're calling
- at 8n1 or at 7e1 parameters.
-
- From your message, I gather that you usually call GEnie using Novaterm's
- standard mode. (I had the ".opt ansi" line in there because I usually call
- GEnie while using the NT's ANSI mode.) When you do that you can delete the
- ".opt ansi" line but I like to leave it in there with a modification to make
- the "ansi" to "noansi" which will look like: .opt noansi
-
- By the way, GEnie doesn't care if you call using Novaterm's ANSI or standard
- mode, although the standard mode is preferred (to use program's chat mode) if
- you plan to chat.

- OK, I think I've found the problem. For some reason, NT will crash while a
- script is executed after a buffer dump and being in true ASCII
- translation/mode. I think this was the same reason why Wizard captured
- incoming text in Petscii (or non-true ASCII mode). Anyway, I'm now testing
- some scripts that would have the ASCII mode to off. I hope to be done by the

- OK. As for now, what you could do to avoid this bug is load the script and for
- the BB, type the word "end" one line above the second instance you see "1 ?".
- Then save the script and compile it. Sorry for any inconviences.
-
- Oh, I almost forgot. When, as far as the BB goes, you see the "1 ?" prompt
- after your new messages are captured to the buffer, exit GEnie (via the "bye"
- command), close the buffer and save the remaining contents of the buffer to
- disk.

- R.HAMMERSTED: I noticed you said your RAMLink setting was for $DE00. The

- It seems to me that Nick identified this problem as having to do wit

- Ed, I'm not going to jump on you. Instead, I'm going to agree with you, at
- least part way.
-
- ANSI is fine for GEnie, or for anything for that matter, IF you don't use the
- cursor keys. (I should know since I call GEnie using ANSI.) One problem with
- ANSI though (and it's something that I think Nick can't even fix and
- something that is common even with the IBM terminals' ANSI) is whenever you
- use the cursor keys in ANSI, you will get, depending on what cursor key you
- use, "[A," "[B," "[C" or "[D." That means while using ANSI, you will have to
- use the space bar or the delete key for cursor movement.
-
- (By the way, in a RTC you may see me type something like "[A", etc. You
- might think it's line noise but what it is instead, usually, is my fingers
- hitting the cursor keys before the "return" key.
-
- Anyway, if that doesn't help then a refinement of the user's delete key from
- the GEnie setup menu is in order.
-
- But if that's too much of a fuss, or you have to use the cursor keys, then I
- do suggest calling GEnie using Novaterm's standard mode.

- TP> you don't use the cursor keys.
-
- I appreciate your partial agreement. I wasn't out to start a spat.
- I only know this... anything that is fine with qualifications is going
- to inevitably cause someone or multiple someones problems. ANSI is no
- different. What you are saying may presume familiarity with all of the
- repercussions of different settings, etc. Not everyone has that
- familiarity. I stand by what I said earlier. There is no good reason
- to use ANSI on GEnie. Nothing here, as far as I know, supports it, and
- nothing in the commodore area of GEnie does.
-
- This problem is multi-layered as well. On GEnie there is no reason
- to use your cursor keys. There are no full-screen editors or any of the
- things that would require them. However a person used to using ANSI
- things is probably a bit used to using the cursor keys too.
-
- The absolute bottom line is, anyone can use anything they want, and it
- will be fine with me. I can live with the [[[[[[[[[[ combinations if
- everyone else can. It is akin, IMO, to wearing a tuxedo to clean the
- cellar, but that is everyone's right. :)

- I seriously doubt it is your word processors. More likely is GEnie's
- text editor which reformats posts. You can circumvent the problem
- by sending your posts with the '*sn' command instead of using '*s'.
- I make it a practice to send ALL of my posts with this for this very

- Dunno why the space/return doesn't work for you. That should work with

- Change the 'Line delay' setting in terminal parameters. This controls how

- About the cps rate, the modem connection is at 14.4k and the terminal settings

-
- The cps rate was done by a on-screen text transfer/capture. Sorry for leaving
