- I aquired a computereyes vidio aquisition mpp module fromsalvation army for
- 70 cents. The darned thing is for an atari I think. I would like it to work
- with my c64/128s. I figure the internal hardware is the same foreither the
- c64 or atari. The p big differencte is the connector to the o computer.
- The connector on this one, serial n0.2554a, is a 16 pin chip type connector
- with 2 rows of 8 pins...like a chk chip. I woi would ki like to hook this
- into a connector for the 64type user port...thus i need the pinout for the
- c.euyes. I ay nyone out there has a a c.eyes and can tell me how the
- connector is hooked up internaly it would be of great help! I imagin it would
- just mean opening up the case and writing down the connections . I Hope1. Is
- digital vision around somewhere ? If so where and whome should I contact.

- Is your 1581 set up as device #9? Because if you have your 1541 set up as
- device #8, it will not recognize the 1581 (as mine will not and I have a 64C).
- Give this a try by setting the dip switches on the back. The same can also be
- done for at 1541-II, which also has the dip switches in the rear. When I was a
- member of a local Commodore user group I found quite a few people who did not

- Thanks for the advice Harold, but I found the source of my troubles: You see,
- I had a datasette connected to my C64 in addition to my 1541 and 1581 drives.
- When I disconnected the datasette, the C64 recognized my 1581 as device#9! I
- have no clue why this happened, and would very much apreciate if anybody had a
- technical explanation for this weird behavior...

- I never heard of that combination being a problem but I would not doubt

- Probably not on the printer interfaces, JBEE; those only use the cassette port

- I've had a similar problem with my SX-64. I installed a CMD-HD inside the SX.
- The SX would work with it's own internal 1541 and the HD with no problem, but
- when I plugged a 1581 into the serial port, it would just lock up when trying
- to access the 1581. I could use it OK with an additional 1541 plugged into the
- serial port.
- So, I got to thinking that the 1581 uses a line on the serial port that the
- 1541 does not. This is the SRQ line. The HD also uses this line. The 1581
- worked fine with the SX before I added the HD. Since the HD is capable of
- controlling the serial bus, I decided to cut the SRQ line coming from the HD.
- Lo and behold the 1581 began to work with this SX-64 with internal hard drive.
- The HD also continued to function just fine without the SRQ line connected.
- Everything has been running fine for about a month now. I even have a 1750
- (just the motherboard) inside the SX connected via a ribbon cable that is
- soldered to the expansion board. This allows me to still use the standard
- cartridge port.
- This SX is a pretty nice one-piece GEOS machine.

- Hey, I had forgotten about the Datasette causing the problem. I experienced
- the same thing when I borrowed my brother's Datasette that he had with his old
- VIC-20. I was transferring some VIC-20 files that I found on our user group's

- trying to load the files from the 3.5" disk, which is where I place files that
- are downloaded from BBS.)

- As it stands right now, I could install a RamLink in the SX, but it
- would require one of two things. I am currently using a 3.5 inch
- hard drive mechanism. If I replaced it with a 2.5 inch drive, I could
- probably fit the RamLink board where the drive is located. Then I could
- put the 2.5 inch HD next to the HD board and RL board with it sitting
- on it's side.
- Another method would be to eliminate the 1541 and install a 3.5 inch
- floppy such as an FD in it's place. There would be a little extra room
- in the area of the drive mechanism, but not enough for the RL. But I
- would also be able to eliminate a large circuit board that controls the
- 1541. The FD board is somewhat smaller and the RL might go in there
- with it.
- As for the switches, they could go right on the front panel along
- with the HD switches.
- I probably won't put a RamLink in there, though. The idea is to make
- this unit portable. I would have the problem of keeping the RL powered
- while transporting the SX.
- The HD is plenty fast enough, and will be even faster when I get my
- parallel driver for GEOS finished. The HD's parallel port will be
- connected to both the serial port and the user port. The parallel
- port will only be used with GEOS. This will speed it up considerably
- and I suspect it will be about 5-7 times as fast during data transfers.

- If your 1581 is not being seen by the
- 64 but will work with the 128 have you
- tried swaping cables? The 1581 uses
- more pins than the 1541. Thus it
- needs a cable that has all of the pins
- conected. You might have that one on
- the 128 so it works fine and a "OLDER"
- type on the 64 which won't work with
- the '81. This drive also is susceptible
- to the RF (radio frequency) that your
- monitor gives off.
- If you SUDDENLY get errors of a read
- nature and it is not going above
- track 14 it is this and you need to
- move the drive away from the monitor.
- Or as in my case where I had a monitor
- sitting on a rack I built with the

- That did the trick.

- Big Blue Reader is the utility to do this. However, you will need to have a

- I think you will need to use a DOS Comm program and upload the programs

- If you have a local Commodore BBS, they might be interested in the files

- The word has always been that DesTerm is able to support 9600 baud
- without a SwiftLink. I have seen few substantive complaints about that

- clock is high the 6510 has the buss, and during that time will be running at
- 2mhz, doing twice the workload, when the 1mhz clock is low the vicii gets the
- buss and by a few gates the 6510 is brought back to 1mhz not to screw up any
- timing..(1mhz the real clock out of the vic) now the only problem i see is
- that the vic somethimes requires the high phase for mob and char fetches, it
- signals the 6510 via the ba (rdy) pin and the 3 cycles later (1mhz) the vic
- gets the buss the problem is at 2mhz is 6 clycles later, i was thinking of
- throwing in a shift register clocked with the 2mhz and delaying the ba signal
- by 3 cycles (2mhz) so it would align up properly with the 1mhz clock then
- switching the 6510 back to 1mhz for that cycle.. this is the theory... any
