- I am looking for some addresses or phone#'s where I can buy commercial,
- shareware, and PD software for my C-128 (C-64 and C-128 modes). I've seen some
- ads but I'd rather ask users for the best places to get in touch with. It
- seems Software Support International is big, but that doesn't mean they have
- what they say. Right?
-
- Any help is very much appreciated.

- Paul,
-
- For Public Domain and Shareware software, you'd be hard put to find a
- better place than right here in the Flagship Library. There are about
- 9,600 files available for you to choose from. And, in most all instances
- you will find the latest release version of supported Shareware.
-
- For commercial software there are many sources. In addition to SSI, there is
- Briwall, Tenex and other mail order houses. And, there are the many author
- supported programs that are available direct from the publisher.
-
- In all categories there are terrific programs for the 128.
-
- A lot of us have favorites, and they are all good. Can you tell us what
- types of programs you might be looking for, and I am sure you'll get
- plenty of recommendations.
-
- If considering communications software, I'd highly recommend Dialogue128.
-
- For integrated word processing, database, and spreadsheet, my favorite is
- Digital Solutions's Pocket Writer3, Filer2, and Planner2.
-
- For telecommunicating with GEnie, Wizard is my favorite.
-
- For specific data base tasking, I like dBASEII. For graphics, GEOS.
-
- There are lots more things I like and use. :)

- From a good customer and a software developer's viewpoint I would suggest
- Briwall 1-800-766-5757
-
- They carry more Commodore 64 and Commodore 128 product than anyone.

- Hi!
-
- I hear the Write Stuff is the best wordprocessor.
- Have you tried that?
-
- What am I looking for? Games! Games! GAMES!!!!!!
- Hehehe... We all know the Commodore has THE best games in history.
- (Well at least in my opinion) :)
-
- I'm looking for a cartridge that works the best. I've seen Final Cartridge,
- SuperSnap Shot etc... Which one is the best?
-
- I'm looking for a 1581 (new or used, but must be in good condition). I'd like
- to "Snap Shot" all my programs onto 3.5 disks for easy and faster storage. I
- wouldn't mind getting another 1571 also.
- Are there 1581 or 1571 clones?
-
- It's too bad no one has come out with a gizmo (controller) to run normal clone
- 720k drives or Amiga 880k drives so they can emulate 1581s. Hmmmm... A good
- idea? Nah, most of my ideas no one listens to... :)
-
- My C-128 has JiffyDos built in. All I need is the latest version.
-
- As for software... I'll check out Dialogue 128. Are there any good disk drive
- utilities (Pctools equivalent for Commies)?
- Any 'do it all' type of shells?
-
- Where can I get USED commercial programs with instructions?
-
- My favorite games are Raid on Bungeling Bay (sp?), Bruce Lee, all text and
- graphic adventures, all Access games, and many more.
-
- I'm looking for a 'non-Run magazine' independent publication (or up- to-date
- book) that covers all the games, software, and hardware reviews (especially
- the games) :).
-
- I used to own a C-128 but gave it to my sister for her college stuff. Now she
- graduated and I'm getting THE best computer in the world back! Honestly, I got
- Commodore sick and want my C-128.
- I just can't handle the simplification and power of the IBM and Amiga. They
- just aren't as fun. :)
-
- I had my commie set up real nice. There was a program I found on a BBS that
- allows you to, something like, boot up in C-128 mode and the computer would
- load a certain program in that mode and reboot the computer in C-64 mode, all
- automatically. That way you never had to type Load... etc. The program would
- load my menu program, and I never had to type anything in. Anyone heard of
- this utility or have it? I think it was once in a magazine.
-
- Is there a cable for the Commodore to hook it up to an IBM so that I can
- transfer files that I download with my clone? Isn't that called a Null Modem
- or am I way off? Is there a C-128 telecommunications program with Zmodem?
-
- What's the predicted life expectancy of the Commodore line of computers, as in
- product support etc?
-
- Besides this GEnie library, what are the best PD and Shareware mail- order
- companies?
-
- I recall there was a file called Space Movie or something. Was very neat how
- they made the C-64 have full sound and animation. I've always just like to sit
- back and watch those files. Also recall a program called laser that have lines
- dancing to 8 different songs and you could adjust things. Where can I get
- these types of programs?
-
- In case something happens to my computer, what's the most trustworthy service
- center(s). Where can I get parts?
-
- Hmmmm, maybe we should change the topic's name to "Questions and Answers about
- Commodore Computers."
-
- As for games: What are the best simulations? I read Strike Aces is good.
- Gunship was real fun. How about car, airplane, combat, motorcycle etc
- simulations? Any opinions?
-
- Are games still being converted for the C-64?
-
- How did Mean Streets look on the C-64?
-
- Sorry for this long-winded post...
-

- There are at least three game specific magazines in the US, two offer
- (skimpy) C-64 coverage along with all the other games systems.
- I usually glance at them at Waldren's, I could not tell you the names
- though I think one is "Player's Encylopedia".
-
- I did not like Mean Streets - the copy protection built into the game
- as a series of landing coordinates makes playing the game tedious and
- boring. I only like reading a manual once.
-
- The best place to find games is here online in Cat#10.
-
- Big Blue Reader 128 is the best thing to have when you want to transfer
- programs from 360K (5.25) and 720K (3.5) IBM disks. Much better than
- a null modem cable.
-
- Best freezer cartridge is Super Snap Shot, though the one sold by RIO
- (Action Replay) has a sprite collison killer for infinite lives.
-
- Best service and trustworthy:
- Earl Harvey and Assc.
- 1409 Mill St
- Laramie, WY 82070
-
-
- Best word processor is always an opinion ;), in my opinion Paperclip iii
- is the tops for both the C64 and C128.
-
- You can find a whole library of C64 demos in Lib#30 (M625;3).

- Paul,
-
- Filling in a few blanks...
-
- For more games, be sure to take a look at the May/June issue of RUN. Many
- are available from RUN. Also, contact Briwall, SSI, Tenex, and Lyco and
- request their Commodore Catalogs for hundreds of listings.
-
- As for disk drive utilities? I think you already have the best now, with
- your JiffyDos. Combined with Basic7 on your 128, it offers batch file
- handling, second to none. Enhancing these are the specific task utiities
- offered by CMD to is RamLink, RamDrive and HD users.
-
- The program that you're referring to might be `Serendipity'. It will load
- a 64 mode program in the 128's fast burst mode, then switch the computer
- to 64 mode and run it. You could have it fast load a 64 menu program.
- (Or, run a 128 mode menu program, and have it run Serendipity to fast load
- the 64 mode program of your choice.) There is a release of a 64 mode menu
- program that will use the 1581 and 1571 burst loading in the 128's 64
- mode, and this one might be helpful too. Or, a RamLink or RamDrive would
- do all of these things and more.
-
- --------------------------------
- Crazy Randy,
-
- I have searched high, and I've search low, and cannot seem to get my paws
- on that issue of RUN that reviewed the Spanish <> English program. I know
- it is here. Somewhere. :(
-
- I will keep looking! But if someone else can identify the issue please do

- The thing that was nice about the Spanish <> English translation program is
- that it did translation of entire text files, attempting as best it could to
- get things idiomatically correct.
-
- I've never used any of the hand held translators, but sort of think that they
- are only single word (or expression) translators.
-
- I recall in the review that the program was accused of making some funny
- mistakes. But then again, I do not think that a translator exists for any
- computer that can capture all idomatic nuisances of a language while
- translating. I quess that is why they still use human translators at the
- United Nations...

- I will publically apologize to the much maligned idiom, for adding to its

-
- I actually intended to compliment the idiom and all its nuances. Somehow
- an errant keyboard decided it was a nuisance instead. (I would never do

- As far as the 64 boot from 128, try the file 'diskmenu.sda' in the 128
