- November 16, 1987 -- Electronic Arts today announced the release of Demon
- Stalkers: The Raid on Doomfane, a 3-D action adventure game designed by
- Micro Forte for Commodore 64/128 computer systems. Demon Stalkers combines
- 100 levels of dungeon mazes and a construction set for creating your own,
- never-ending challenge of medieval mystery.
-
- In Demon Stalkers one or two players are faced with locating and battling
- the demon Calvrak whose evil has prevailed over the once peaceful realm.
- This objective is not easy as Calvrak hides at the bottom of a 99 level
- catacomb guarded on every level by hordes of rats, snappers, dervishes, mad
- mages and ghosts. Players must solve each level in order, and at each level
- they are faced with a different goal and different obstacles. "Each level
- is more intricate and more difficult than its predecessor, and there is no
- pattern to alert you to the type of foe you will encounter," noted Bing
- Gordon, Vice President of Electronic Arts Entertainment Division.
-
- Gordon noted that each level in Demon Stalkers is filled with monsters
- continuously spewing from sewer grates. "On each level you may also be
- tempted to pick up keys, scrolls, chests, food, bells and magic aids," added
- Gordon. "The only problem with these is you never know when they may aid
- you in your success or your destruction."
-
- If players acquire enough health and strength points to conquer all 99
- levels and locate four powerful weapons hidden among the vaults in the
- dungeons, they are rewarded with a fast paced, graphic rich pay-off battle
- against Calvrak.
-
- "Where most games would end at this point, Demon Stalkers continues as the
- only dungeon maze game with a complete construction set," noted Gordon.
- "The construction set is completely menu-driven and allows players to build
- their own dungeon game from scratch, modify any of the existing levels in
- the above mentioned game, or practice play any level." The construction set
- contains over 200 design options assuring no two levels will ever be alike
- and that players will enjoy hundreds of hours of challenging gameplay.
