- Hi :)
-
- The Flagship BB is for topics or subjects related to Commodore computers
- only.
- So, this topic will be removed soon. Does anybody know if there *is* a
- place on GEnie for Nintendo questions, play help and such? I couldn't find
- any anywhere ;/ My guess if there isn't one it's because if you have a
- computer who needs nintendo <grin>

- This can stay :) I am not sure there is even a gaming section on GEnie.
- Since C= owners seem to own console games and Lynxs ;) this can
- stay until she finds a section.

- A Lynx is 16 bit, hand held, color video game. Pretty awesome piece of
- hardware, what the C65gs should have been. If you want to find out more
- type ATARI and enter the Atari ST section. Cat #36 :)

-
- Well, personally I think Commodore games are better... :)
-
- However, I *think* there is a gamers RoundTable here on GEnie where all
- manner of games are discussed. Isn't there?
-
- Or, maybe I should explore more of what is available around here? :/

- Hi,
-
- Being new on Genie I'll probably have a million questions. But right
- now I'll settle for the answer to just one. Is there a newer version of lharc
- than 1.5? I'm having trouble with mail packets. When I use lhx -v it always
- gives a crc error (on at least 10 different packets) and while it seems to
- dearc allright,to a text file, when I try to read it I get nothing but
- garbage. When I run lhd it gives a version number of -LH5-. Ive tried
- everything I can think of with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
- It's driving me nuts. Thanks.

- Upload a packet here and I will tell you if the compression is at
- fault or not. I have encountered CRC errors on files done under Ensemble,
- but that is it.

-
- Hmm, I'm not sure offhanad, but I think -LH5- indicates a newer form of
- compression (or maybe just a newer header format?) used in lharc-like
- compessors. On other systems there is "lha" and "lharc"... "lha" and "lhx" on
- the 128 is the equivalent of "lharc" on Unix, AmigaDOS, MS-DOS, etc. Right
- now, it is not possible for the 128 to dissolve the newest format files
- created by other systems' "lha". If it is possible, try to specify that you
- want .lzh files, or lharc'ed files, rather than .lha or lha'ed files, with
- your mail packets.
-
- On the other hand, if I'm wrong and lh5 is indeed the format recognized by lhx
- on the 128, there is likely some other problem.
-
- Re: garbage in text files, what text file reader are you using? There is a
- chance that your problem is PETSCII/ASCII conversion, unless you've already
- taken care of this.

- Jack/Rob,
-
- Yes, LH5 is a newer version of .lzh files which LHA 128 cannot take apart. I'm
- surprised you get a CRC error - I would have thought that LHA would simply
- have skipped over the file. Interesting.

- This is an Amiga system and the formats are Arc (which I have no problem
- with) LHA,LZH,ZOO,ZIP. lha and lzh are both very fast to d/l but i get the
- same results.A crc error when I try to verify, and when I use Lhx, while it
- seems to dissolve allright, shows nothing but a jumble on screen. I've tried
- petscII and ascII with the same result on seq.128,WW-128,cs-dos-type. I just
- d/l Zed-128 and got the same results. I just u/l a packet to 128-JBEE and
- hopefully he will be able to come up with something. It's probably something
- I'm doing wrong cause I have been known to make a few mistakes (quite a few).
- Thanks for the reply.

- I took a look at this file and it looks like it was downloaded with
- PetASCII translation on? If not then I guess it was archived with the
- newer LZH method.

- Try downloading the same packet (is that possible?) in .ZIP format and
- then try deZipping it under CS-DOS or use B.Lucier1's C-64 deZipper and
- see if the text still looks jumbled.
-
- Looks like you aren't doing anything wrong and that it is a different
- LZH compression format. Why it was changed I have no idea.

- D/l in Zip and ran unzip64, it gave an "unknown compresion method" and then

- Jack,
-
- There are three other alternatives while using your 128:
-
- You could request and get packets in LZH, ZOO or ZIP. Then let BBR128, or any
- of the other many utilities write the files over to CP/M disks, and unpack
- them using a CP/M application.
