- I believe that ATH puts the phone onhook and ATA takes it off hook.
- I don't think there is a command to change baud rate. That is a
- function of the software for dialing out and software and the modem when

- ATA is usually used to set a modem to Auto-Answer mode... ATH1 takes the modem

- ANSI would not affect the file transfer protocols. However, Doug is
- correct that the 7e1 setting would. ANSI is handled at a much higher

- The word size and parity, on the other hand, are applied/tested for

- This is the last time I will be here on Q-link. I have about 25 min. left
- of free Q-pon time I will use up.
-
- I have been on Q-link for a long time but It's slowed down. I used to get
- at lest 1 mail every day. Now mybe 1 a week. This is the board that gets used
- the most. Others just have about 2, 3, or 4 new post a week. I hat no new
- files :\ It all so looks li ke Q-link just does not cair and all the $ all are
- paying it going to AOL. This is a system like Q-link only for the IBM. Easy to
- get around. So people my like it like they do Q-link, but I will never go
- there the way Q-link don't cair about us here.
-
- I herd the LIB prob. my be because of AOL working with Windows on the IBM
- that is about when it started. They are hooked up. Go in PC and type =q to see
- it mess up. It will do the same on AOL.
-
- CMD says if Q-link would just retern there calls you could use 2400 boud on
- Q-link. But Q-link has had about 7 month to give the go ahead to CMD. But will
- they? I guess not. I gave them 7 months and still they will not even do that
- and it don't take not hing on there part, just a call to CMD!!!! :\
-
- Well if any one want to get a hold of me you can send me a letter or call I
- guess. Just asked Georep Jim here on Q-link. He knows how to get a hold of me.
- If you have a bad REU or want it upgraded I can fix or upgrad them for a very
- good price. I have f ixed 1541 drives and C64 and put stereo in a lot of them.
- So if you need help like that.
-
- If gets me mad that Q-link just will not do any thing else with this
- system. Then when you think that all the $ you are paying here is going to
- suport AOL because they are not doing any thing over here :\
-
- Bye is was a very good time being here on Q-link I liked it alot. It will
- just be a good memery now. I like to see the message when you call Q and it
- says Q-link is not here any more. If you have Super Snapshot get the screen.
- It my be a good one for so mthing.
-
- Go on and comment here I think over a friends I can log on with there Q-
- link disk to see what people say.
-
- If Q-link will fix the LIB I my be back on. I hope they go 2400 boud too!

- baud." When I read this I really ripped into them, telling them that it (their
- answer) was the biggest crock of bull that I ever heard of.
-
- I finally left after they got rid of the GEOS area and then headed here to
- GEnie, where I have found that many of the old Q-Link people are here. So,

- Doug... kinda, but not really. Even though Qlink became unbearably slow if
- too many people were on at once (more than 1?), it still had a certain
- uniqueness to it. Every message area was in it's own little area, and that
- base had it's own downloading areas to choose from.
- It was really nice if you were only interested in a couple of conferences, or
- only wanted to browse files for a particular area/group. Also, even though the
- messaging system was completely slow, bulky, etc, I did like being able to
- view all messages posted (most recent to oldest) in menu format.
- I know you can basically do the same thing here, with a little timkering, but
- I'm sure other ex-Qlink users can vouch that it was fairly intuitive, and
- didn't require much doc-reading.
- BTW, I'm not sure what CMD would do with Qlink if they did purchase it. It's
- basically sharing space with AOL, and still has the mysterious 'file-eating
- virus' (the one that looks amazingly like AOL deleting C= files to make room
- for more AOL stuff). It would be much cheaper in the short and long run to
- just set up a new system on a few high-speed pc's, and offer it through
- sprintnet... kinda like that Phoenix BBS.

- Especially if they were connected to a major online service like AOL.
- I do not care who says this is what is happening, I do not believe it.

- I do not believe AOL is deleting Commodore files to make room for

- Most likely CPu time is being rationed in a ratio they deem profitable

- JBEE,
-
- It's a storage allocation bug, not a virus. At some point in the storage
- allocation routines, a value used by those routines probably reached a value
- that the routines either couldn't handle, or couldn't handle properly. From
- that point on, as new data has been added, old data becomes corrupt. This is
- apparent in looking around on the system... file messages with two headers and
- no actual message, corrupt files, files which the system can no longer
- locate...
-
- It also appears that AOL, Inc. did look into the problem enough to get a

- According to one of the user's I spoke to in P.C., there were around 70 users

- It had the same old messages that you normally see before a shut-down, one at
- 10 minutes before, and a second at 5 minutes before. Both had the standard
- text proclaiming what time the system would be back on. But we knew it wasn't
- coming back.

- Well in case anyone here is interested, A new version of GWterm is finally
- going to be here. I was ready to release about 6 months ago, then school went
- back into session, and then I got a Swiftlink and High Speed modem so of
- course had to add support for that.
- What's new? Well for those who have been asking for it for years, Yes,
- FINALLY the maps are in color. It now has a rudimentary Upload abuility.
- Expanded Buffer functions, HOTKEYS, Swiftlink Support up to 38.4k Baud
- (although when truly at that kinda baud rate you are subject to data loss)
- Grab and Throw Feature, for quoting text, and to be honest can't remember what
- else, since I have have not used the last released version in so long, forget
- what it did and did not have.
- Future projects at present include as top priority Protocal Expansion to
- support more than the Standard Xmodem that is currently installed. Possible
- OVERLAY support, for you hackers out there. REU Support. and a few other
- tidbits, possibly even MOUSE or JOYSTICK use while playing Global War to
- select countries.
- Just as a reminder, this term is not meant to replace the big terminals, but
- it is great for the Global War Player, and I feel that it is, with this
- version becoming very adequately capable for the average user, as the User
- Interface has been improved drastically.

- Well, after a close call from my Beta Tester.... and a harrowing few days I am
- still on track for a 4/1 release date. Just gotta get together with him and
- make sure the bug he found has been squashed. Added a few more features,
- including being able to view a disk directory from within term mode, and to
- dial from within term mode. (essentially very little reason to exit term mode
- to the menu anymore.)
- Keep an eye out for it, and if you have any suggestions on improvements
- please LET ME KNOW! I get much more done when I know that someone wants it.

- Hmmmm..... You should get 14.4 ok provided data is not continuous nonstop..
- However continuous data will cause data loss at the higher baud rates. I plan
- on addressing this problem in next version. But for normal BBS use 14.4 has
- worked fine for me for 5 months now.... Thanks for letting me know about the
- problem, I will see what I can do.
- Glad to hear that SL works at interface page d700, had no way to test that
- feature. Thanks for the input.

- I set it to all other bauds and it works but at 14.4 it will not. I am using
- Datapump. I will try it with the Swiftlink I have and see if 14.4 works then.
- I tryed to save the Buffter out and it would say file not found. So I never
- could save it out. Looks like a good term. If you add that things you talked
- about in the info file it should be very good. Thanks for makeing it work with
- the SL/DP!!!

- So you are saying 14.4 does not work at all on D700? That is extremely weird.
- I will take a look at it, and see what I can do... but really it should be an
- all or nothing thing with SL/DP at d700 if one works they all should...
-
- Buffer save did not work???? Hmmmmm That is weirder... tIt works fine
- here..... are you sure you are using buffer save option and not buffer load?
- ...... Hmmmmmmmm... Glad you like the term hope you find it useful.

- At $D700 or $DE00 only set at 14.4 an at command will not come back with a ok
- or any thing till I switch to another baud, higher or lower. I tested it with
- Data pump at $D700 and Swiftlink at $DE00. I have RAMlink too. The Buffer save
- I tryed it bother ways. The load and save to said it just would come back with
- file not found with both. My be it is a bad upload or something. Or just
- someting with my 128. Some one else would have to have a SL/DP with a fast
- modem and 128 to test this out.

- Well Ray, I am not sure about the problems you are having. Is anyone else
- having these problems? I know that none of my beta testers are... prehaps
- Ramlink is conflicting with DP/SL? On the save buffer stuff, I am kinda at a
- loss My save is a simple open 15,drive #,15,'filename,s,w' to save and if that
- works from basic... Change those 15's above to 4's I believe... or was it 8?
- Anyway it is just a standard open sequential file for write, should not come
- back with the problems you r having...
- Chris, the biggest board for Global War is JOEL BERGENS board, he is the
- author of Global War... the number to his board is 206-353-6966 I believe. It
- is in washington state. If you ask around on your areas local BBS's you might
- find someplace a little closer to play it.

- Thanks forgot to ask Is the game automatic with gwterm. By that I mean I do

- You need no overlay or anything to take advantage of the GW features of the
- term. Printing out the docs will essentially give a breif discription of GW
- and what GWterm does.

- OK, GWterm 5 is in the works!!! So let me tell you guys a little about
- [C it and get some feedback. I am done with school and have graduated yay and
- all that rot. And now am finding myself in a coding mood again and so today I
- sat down and added 4800 BPS support through standard RS232 and a buffer
- transfer abuility. I am hoping to upgrade the protocals and put in an
- autodialer for this release.
- The release has no set release date as I have just started this very day
- on it. But I figured I would tally the area here for suggestions for the next
- version. And of course complaints on the current one.
- So I am all ears here, so lets hear it.
