NOVATERM 9.6 FEATURES

Novaterm 9.6 supports the following new features:

* Zmodem upload, download, auto-download, and crash recovery.  Also suppo=
rts
  streaming mode with the buffer.
* Ymodem-g and Xmodem-1k-g streaming protocols with the buffer.
* Use any RAM expansion device as the buffer: REU, BBGRam, GEORam, RAMLin=
k
  or RAMDrive partition, C128 VDC memory.
* "Buffer recovery" feature retains contents of the buffer between Novate=
rm
  sessions as long as the memory device does not lose power or get
  overwritten.
* Text editor can read and write files directly from the buffer.
* Supports the SwiftLink, CommPort, HART cartridge, and Daniel Dallmann's
  9600 bps user port enhancement

* Supports the C128's fast-mode 80-column screen in terminal mode

DLoC, Dark Lords of Chaos is an H/P/A/Demo group, founded in
1985.  At the time, all of our members were 64 users.  Today, the two
remaining members (Pro Hack and Me) still use 64's as our machines of cho=
ice.
 Thusly, I have included a few 64 links in the page and would
like to vastly expand the 64 section.

Check it out, and if you have any 64 links to add, just mail 'em to me,

You need a Lieutenant Kernal Hard Drive controller.  It will run any SCSI=
,
providing that you modify the setup disk.  I have seen an LTK run a half =
gig
SCSI drive before, but the peckerhead running it wouldn't clue me in on h=
ow
to modify the disk.  I believe the limit is 65535 sectors or something.

    I have a HP Deskjet 540 I use on the damn PeeSee I own, and have been
trying for ages to get it to work with my 128D.  Not geoCable, not my
printer interface-- nothing has made it go.

      Your last question is a good one, though I can confirm that the
1750 REU clone (the little black cartridge one), which is supposed to be
so power sipping as not to require an extra supply, indeed does NOT work
with the SX64.  However, all the standard issue CBM REU's, including the
1750, 1764, and 1700--  all work like a charm on the SX64, which apparant=
ly
has plenty of power for them.

I just put the 1750 Clone dox on my 8-bit/Project 64 page. Maybe this
will do for you...

Believe it or not, about FIVE years ago, me and a few friends of mine
(including the author of GeoPack) talked about something like this. We
tossed about the idea of hooking up a video digitizer to the user port
(ComputerEyes), a sound digitizer to a joystick port, and an Arcnet card
to the expansion port (unfortunately, GeoLink was never released).

I would say that such a project is not outside the realm of
possibility. We now have TCP/IP stacks and SLIP drivers that use
Swiftlink. We also have a 20 MHz accelerator card if we need oodles
of CPU time.

:  If by some chance you or a friend want to take this up, I do have a fe=

suggestions. First an option to switch between viewing
: yourself and the person on the other end (Control 1 or 2 ect.) That way=
 you
can adjust the input especially if your using Computer

My SCSI Zip works fine on my C128. Of course, I've got the Zip
hooked up to my Amiga's SCSI host adapter and my Amiga hooked up to the
C-128 vis RS-232. I use Over5 (ftp://aminet.com/pub/aminet/misc/emu) to
mount the Zip disk on my C-128 (in 64 mode, of course).

The info for adding an additional HD to the CMD-HD is outlined in the
manual that came with the HD. Plus the software needed to add the Zip
is supplied on the HD-Tools disk that also came with the CMD-HD.
You merely add it with 'AddDrive' or whatever it's called. Then if
you are using a Zip disk formatted for IBM, you don't have to format
it. Just start adding partitions with HDTools.
  To change disks, you have to either have the same partitions on
the other disk, or redo the partitions. When you put in a new disk
for the first time, the partitions will come up 'DRIVE NOT READY'.
Just @CP to each partition and format them. They will still show
up with @$=3DP since the partition info is stored in the main HD unit.

Eventually there might be a program that will quickly alter the
partition info each time you swap disks. Meanwhile, it has to be
done a little differently.

There's actually a DOS based TCP/IP SLIP/PPP software which does Email,
news, WWW, telnet and FTP called "Net-tamer".  It's implementation of
WWW is similar to Lynx, in that the graphics are not displayed inline
with the page.  If the user selects a graphic, the file is downloaded
and the user is offered a choice of viewing it or not. The program is
well supported with frequent beta updates, too.

Since this program is written to work on lowly xt's on up and does NOT
use "winsock", it gives me a lot of hope for Commodore 64/128 projects
of similar proportions.

I just received a C64GS and have some questions. I notice that the
motherboard has connections for User Port and Cassette port but no
openings in the case for them. I also see that it has the space marked
for a serial port connector but not attached. Also there is a space on
the motherboard for the keyboard connector but no connector. Above and
below the the space forthe keyboard connector are space for 4 seven pin
connectors.

Does anyone know what the 7-pin connectors would be for?

Has anyone connected disk drives, keyboards, cassette drives to this
machine?

Personally I don't use a graphical browser anyway.  Too dog slow!  A vers=

This is a longshot, but......

I just found an old kim-1 in the basement of our local university
and I'd like to play around with it.  Does anybody know the power
requirments and connector layout (ie, which pins get the power ?)

I'd appreciate it.....
