  8. translation of GeoDOS documentation from German
  9. into English.

  32. This English Documentation for GeoDOS and
  33. GeoHelpView was translated from German by
  34. `361Bruce Thomas` from May, 2001 until February,
  35. 2002 with the help of online translation Web Sites
  36. (specifically - http://babelfish.altavista.com and
  37. http://www.freetranslation.com). The translation
  38. process was also aided by the German to English
  39. translation section of my Readers Digest Great
  40. Encyclopedic Dictionary.
  41. `331Arndt Dettke`, (http://www.godot64.de) the 
  42. author of GoDot, provided valuable assistance by 
  43. proofreading my translations. Where differences
  44. existed between Arndt's corrections and what is 
  45. displayed on the English screen and Help Bubbles 
  46. I elected to maintain consistency with what the 
  47. English user would see on the screen.
  48. In the translation some adjustment was made to
  49. the text to make up for differences in the 
  50. English and German keyboard layouts. The Control
  51. Codes are generated using the `40100 key alone
  52. or in combination with the Commodore key.
  53. Also, all document names were changed to
  54. include a letter 'e' in the name to indicate the
  55. English version of the documentation files. This
  56. means that GDH_Grundlagen and GDeH_Basics
  57. are the same file but the 'e' indicates the
  58. English version.
  59. All other changes to the text of the documentation
  60. are the result of the translation process and an
  61. effort to properly grammatacize the text for
  62. the English Language. No part of the text was
  63. deliberately altered or omitted to the best of
  64. my knowledge with the exception of the addition
  65. of the section on ^`1GeoDOS and Y2K`.
  66. All notices regarding distribution of the original
  67. GeoDOS files and GeoHelpView System pertain
  68. to the English translation as well.

  81. The files contained in this package are just the 
  82. ones required for the GeoDOS Help System. The 
  83. GeoDOS System itself is available in a separate 
  84. package.
  85. To use this English Documentation delete all files
  86. from your existing GeoDOS disk/partition whose 
  87. names begin with 'GDH_' (these are the Help 
  88. System files). Then, copy all of the files from 
  89. this Zip package to your disk/partition, replacing 
  90. any files that already exist.
  91. To use the Help System run the file 'GeoHelpView' 
  92. (or press the <F1> key while using GeoDOS).
  93. This will open the Main Page of the Help System.
  94. The best place to start to learn about the Help
  95. System is to choose this Red link near the bottom
  96. of the page:

  98. After clicking on this link a different file will 
  99. load. This file is the GeoHelpView.eDoc file. You 
  100. will see the Table of Contents page for this file 
  101. and a lot of links to good info.
  102. To learn how to navigate through the Help 
  103. System click on this Green Link:

  105. The page that comes up explains the Icons at the 
  106. top of the page and how you can navigate 
  107. through the Help System.
  108. Another page that helps figure out navigation is 
  109. found by pressing the Page 1 Icon at the top of 
  110. the screen and then selecting:

  117. When the Table of Contents comes up choose:

  119. When the GeoDOS Basics Table of Contents shows 
  120. up use the arrow in the lower right corner to
  121. scroll down the list until you see:

  123. Click on this link with your Mouse and you will 
  124. learn how to use the arrows and display bar 
  125. indicator on the right edge of the GeoHelp Screen 
  126. (these are very similar to Wheels directory 
  127. navigation tools and what you have in The Wave).
  128. Finally, in this package you may notice that 
  129. there are two copies of the same file:
  130. GeoHelpView.1e and GeoHelpView.001
  131. I did this to follow my naming convention of 
  132. adding a letter 'e' in the file name to indicate 
  133. the English version of the Help File. I then found 
  134. out that, in order to call up the Help System by 
  135. pressing the 'F1' key within GeoDOS the file had 
  136. to be called 'GeoHelpView.001'. If you call up the 
  137. Help System from within GeoDOS the '.001' file 
  138. will be loaded. Once you move into any of the 
  139. other files and go back to the Main Help System 
  140. Welcome Screen the '.1e' file will be loaded.
