The thyroid gland is located in your neck, just in front of the windpipe. It produces a hormone called thyroxine, which controls how your body and mind develop. It also controls the activity of the body.
If you do not get enough thyroxine as a child, your brain and body will not grow properly. If you get too much thyroxine, you will be underweight.
