All teeth have the same structure. The crown is the part of the tooth that you can see. It is covered with a tough material called enamel.
The layer called dentine is protected by the enamel. It is a kind of bone. The pulp cavity contains nerve endings and blood vessels that carry nutrients to the tooth.
The root of the tooth fits into a hole in the jaw. Cement and elastic fibres keep the tooth in place and absorb shock.
