  11.             As the Committee knows, I have
  12.             been diagnosed with Tuvan
  13.             Syndrome. Sloan became aware of
  14.             my condition and hoped to make my
  15.             death look like a sudden
  16.             acceleration of the disease. To
  17.             do that, he needed a doctor. So
  18.             ten days after Fujisaki's death,
  19.             Sloan arranged to "recruit"
  20.             Doctor Bashir into Section Thirty-
  21.             one.

  23.             After that, Sloan bided his time,
  24.             and waited for an opportunity to
  25.             present itself. He found one
  26.             when he learned of this
  27.             conference. He then arranged for
  28.             Bashir to be invited. Everything
  29.             was going perfectly. But then he
  30.             made a fatal mistake -- he
  31.             decided to come to Romulus
  32.             himself. He was unaware that his
  33.             identity had become known to us.
  34.             Once we recognized him in the
  35.             delegation, we knew immediately
  36.             that an intelligence operation
  37.             was underway.

  39.     Koval moves over to Sloan, looks him over with
  40.     curiosity.

  43.             What I don't understand is why?
  44.             Why come here and take the risk
  45.             of being discovered?

  47.     Sloan glares at him for a long beat before answering.

  49.                     SLOAN
  50.             I had to make sure nothing went
  51.             wrong. And... I wanted to watch
  52.             you die.

  55.             You broke the cardinal rule of
  56.             our profession -- you allowed
  57.             business to become personal.
