  2.         DEEP SPACE NINE: "Chimera" - REV. 12/16/98 - ACT FOUR      36A.
  3.
  4. 41A  CONTINUED:
  5.                     QUARK (Cont'd)
  6.             You're smart enough to know
  7.             people don't want to be reminded
  8.             that you're different.
  9.                 (with a shiver)
  10.             Who wants to see someone turn
  11.             into goo? I hope you don't do
  12.             that around Kira.
  13.
  14.                     ODO
  15.             Why shouldn't I?
  16.
  17.                     QUARK
  18.             If she's anything like me. She'd
  19.             rather you didn't. We humanoids
  20.             are the product of millions of
  21.             years of evolution. Our
  22.             ancestors learned the hard way
  23.             that what you don't know might
  24.             kill you. They wouldn't have
  25.             survived if they hadn't jumped
  26.             back when they encountered a
  27.             snake coiled in the muck. And
  28.             now millions of years later, that
  29.             instinct is still there.
  30.
  31.     Quark has an agenda here -- he's worried for Odo,
  32.     but he's not about to come out and say so.
  33.
  34.                     QUARK
  35.             It's genetic. Our tolerance for
  36.             other lifeforms doesn't extend
  37.             beyond the two arm, two leg
  38.             variety. I hate to break it to
  39.             you, but when you're in your
  40.             natural state, you're more than
  41.             our poor old genes can handle.
  42.
  43.                     ODO
  44.                 (dismissive)
  45.             What are you saying, Quark? That
  46.             the Klingons couldn't help what
  47.             they did because of their genes?
  48.
  49.                     QUARK
  50.             I'm not trying to excuse what
  51.             they did. I'm only telling you
  52.             why it happened.
  53.
