  9.             You've got to have good aim... and 
  10.             no matter what else you can say 
  11.             about me, you can't say I don't 
  12.             have good aim.

  14.     Jake looks at him, unsure what to say to this odd 
  15.     announcement.

  17.                     ENSIGN 
  18.             If I hadn't hit my foot just 
  19.             right, I would've taken my whole 
  20.             leg off.

  22.     Jake doesn't know what to make of the Ensign's ironic 
  23.     perspective. The Ensign smiles ruefully, continues.

  25.                     ENSIGN 
  26.             It's funny... one minute your 
  27.             life's moving along just the way 
  28.             you always figured it would, the 
  29.             next... you do something that 
  30.             changes everything, that makes you
  31.             realize you're not who you thought 
  32.             you were.

  34.     He turns to Jake.

  36.                     ENSIGN 
  37.             At the Academy, I did really well 
  38.             in the battle simulations - never
  39.             had any problems -- but when 
  40.             you're out there, live shells 
  41.             detonating all around you, it's a 
  42.             whole different thing.

  44.                     JAKE
  45.                 (more to himself) 
  46.             All you can think about is getting 
  47.             away from the explosions...

  49.     The Ensign looks at him, and Jake realizes his thought 
  50.     escaped his lips.
