  4. 11   EXT. PLANET'S SURFACE - DAY (OPTICAL)

  6.     Bashir and Dax MATERIALIZE on the surface... Both have 
  7.     PHASERS and TRICORDERS at their sides and he has his 
  8.     MEDKIT. They find themselves standing near a concrete 
  9.     outcropping.
  10.  
  11.                     KIRA'S COM VOICE
  12.             Let's stay in close contact. If 
  13.             the Jem'Hadar come this way, we're 
  14.             going to have to get out of here fast.

  19. They move around the outcropping to see...

  21. 12   EXT. RUINED CITY - DAY (OPTICAL/MATTE)
  22.  
  23.     What might have once been a bustling modern city 
  24.     street. The few structures still standing are gutted, 
  25.     blackened and scorched by fire. Shanties and other 
  26.     makeshift structures are propped against them.
  27.  
  28.     The inhabitants of the planet, dressed in tattered 
  29.     rags, can be seen milling about. They look human, but 
  30.     they all have BLUE, vein-like WELTS on their faces.
  31.  
  32.     Some sit listlessly, with nothing to do. others are 
  33.     carrying water in makeshift containers, lugging 
  34.     firewood, tending fires burning in rusted-out 
  35.     cylindrical containers. A few push wheelbarrow like 
  36.     carts in front of them -- produce vendors, willing to 
  37.     barter their paltry merchandise.
  38.  
  39.     There is no sign of power being generated anywhere, and 
  40.     the inhabitants use the now useless artifacts from 
  41.     their once-industrial civilization for other purposes -- 
  42.     what might have once been an alien refrigerator, 
  43.     for example, might now serve as part of someone's home.
  44.  
  45.     A MAN passes by pulling a CART with three dead BODIES 
  46.     on it, partially covered by a tarp.
  47.  
  48.     Our people react to the scene of devastation before 
  49.     them...
