  7.             The Klingon Empire makes the
  8.             following allegations against
  9.             Lieutenant Commander Worf: That
  10.             on Stardate 49648 while in command
  11.             of the Starship Defiant, he did
  12.             knowingly fire upon and destroy a
  13.             Klingon civilian transport ship
  14.             near the Pentath system. And as
  15.             a result of this action, four
  16.             hundred forty-one Klingon
  17.             civilians were killed.

  19.     Ch'Pok takes a few steps around the room.

  21.                     CH'POK
  22.                 (continuing)
  23.             It is my intention to prove that
  24.             Mister Worf was grossly negligent
  25.             in his command of the Defiant.
  26.             That his lust for battle overrode
  27.             his good judgement. I ask only
  28.             that he be returned to us... to
  29.             face the justice of his own 
  30.             people.

  37.             The Advocate neglected to mention
  38.             in his opening statement that at
  39.             the time in question, the Defiant
  40.             was under attack by two Klingon
  41.             warships. This was a combat
  42.             situation, with hundreds of lives
  43.             at stake. It was at that moment,
  44.             when the transport ship suddenly
  45.             decloaked in front of the Defiant.
  46.                 (beat)
  47.             Worf gave the order to fire, not
  48.             because he was reckless or
  49.             negligent, but because he believed
  50.             he was firing on a warship. We
  51.             intend to show that the
  52.             destruction of the transport was
  53.             a tragic, but unavoidable,
  54.             accident.
