  7.             This may seem odd to you--but
  8.             there were times on Cardassia when
  9.             I almost missed being a prisoner
  10.             of the Breen. At least there, the
  11.             Bajoran and Cardassian prisoners
  12.             accepted me for who I was.
  13.                 (a beat)
  14.             The only good thing about living
  15.             on Cardassia was being with my
  16.             father.

  18.                     KIRA
  19.             I'm glad you two are getting
  20.             along.

  22.     Ziyal smiles. Talking about her father makes her
  23.     genuinely happy.

  25.                     ZIYAL
  26.             He's been wonderful.
  27.                 (a beat)
  28.             And so brave. He never tried to
  29.             hide me away. He never acted like
  30.             he was ashamed of me. We'd go out
  31.             to dinner, take long walks
  32.             together. Once he even took me to
  33.             a performance of his favorite
  34.             Didactic Theater group. We sat
  35.             right up in front.

  37.             He was so intimidating, no one
  38.             dared to challenge my right to be
  39.             there.

  42.             And now that he's been exiled...

  45.             Wherever he goes, I go. He's the
  46.             only family I have.
