  30.     Professor Carlson and Captain Wainwright. Wainwright 
  31.     shows Denning a black and white photo of the shuttle.

  34.             The aliens' ship has a small 
  35.             control area in the front and 
  36.             rudimentary sleeping quarters in 
  37.             the back. So far, we can't even 
  38.             figure out what drives the 
  39.             engines, let alone how they work.

  41.     As Wainwright is talking, the stray German Shepherd 
  42.     wanders up to the three men. Jeff bends down to 
  43.     scratch the dog behind the ear.

  52.             It's fascinating. I would've 
  53.             expected creatures of their 
  54.             technological sophistication to 
  55.             communicate telepathically. But 
  56.             they seem to have a structured 
  57.             verbal language just like we do.
