  12. 1    INT. JAKE SISKO'S HOUSE - NIGHT (DISTANT FUTURE)

  14.     It is the early twenty-fifth century, some seventy 
  15.     years later than the time our series ordinarily takes 
  16.     place.
  17.  
  18.     The house is isolated, set off in swampy Louisiana 
  19.     bayou country. It's a two-story modern design that 
  20.     harks back to Southern architectural traditions; it has 
  21.     a cluttered feel, stacks of BOOKS and papers -- the 
  22.     home of a man who lives alone...
  23.  
  24.     There's a writing DESK against one wall, an antique 
  25.     grandfather CLOCK with a pendulum that clicks quietly, 
  26.     a pair of comfortable armchairs around a low table, a 
  27.     fireplace with a mantle. On the walls are hung several 
  28.     PAINTINGS: mostly impressionistic landscapes, some 
  29.     depicting the surrounding bayous. RAIN beats softly 
  30.     against the windows, and occasionally distant lightning 
  31.     can be seen through them.

  33. 2    CLOSE ON JAKE SISKO
  34.  
  35.     now in his SEVENTIES, healthy and fit for a man his 
  36.     age.
  37.  
  38.     He looks around the room, taking in his surroundings 
  39.     with a pensive look. He approaches the mantle, begins 
  40.     to study the objects propped there, his hands moving 
  41.     somewhat unsteadily to touch each in turn. We 
  42.     recognize some of them as Benjamin Sisko's personal 
  43.     effects: the clock from his office, a YORUBA MASK; 
  44.     a scuffed BASEBALL on a pedestal; a BLUEPRINT of an 
  45.     ancient Bajoran spacecraft with solar sails and, next 
  46.     to it, a framed PHOTO showing a seventeen-year-old Jake 
  47.     and his father.

  49.     A small smile plays on Old Jake's features as he takes 
  50.     in these artifacts of his life... a smile that is at 
  51.     once melancholy and yet somehow hopeful.
