  7.     but there's a hidden meaning just below the surface -- 
  8.     they're not talking about scanners here.

  10.                     O'BRIEN 
  11.             About thirty minutes. I'm having 
  12.             a little trouble with the 
  13.             transtater interface.
  14.                 (beat) 
  15.             Maybe you should take a look... 
  16.             sir.

  18.     Bashir casually crosses over to O'Brien and pretends to 
  19.     examine the device O'Brien's working on. They take 
  20.     pains to bend over and block the view of the Guard so 
  21.     he can't see what they're doing or hear them.

  23.                     O'BRIEN
  24.                 (sotto) 
  25.             The plasma charge should have an 
  26.             effective range of about fifteen 
  27.             meters.

  29.                     BASHIR
  30.                 (sotto) 
  31.             That's pretty close.

  33.                     O'BRIEN
  34.                 (sotto) 
  35.             It'll be enough to take care of 
  36.             the guard. Once he's down, I'll 
  37.             get his weapon and then we run 
  38.             like hell for the runabout.

  40.     Bashir glances back at the Guard watching them both. 
  41.     Bashir makes a show of inspecting the device and then 
  42.     giving his approval for the benefit of the Guard.

  44.                     BASHIR
  45.                 (normal voice) 
  46.             Good work, Chief. If you keep 
  47.             this up, you may make a fine 
  48.             officer some day.
  49.  
  50.     Bashir smiles pleasantly and O'Brien is forced to smile 
  51.     back.

  53.                     O'BRIEN 
  54.             Thank you... lieutenant. Coming 
  55.             from you that means a lot.
