  8.             -- just beyond that forest there's a 
  9.             little garden with a small pond.

  11.                     DAX
  12.             It sounds lovely.

  14.                     DERAL
  15.             It is.

  17.     They reach a corner of the square, Deral settles onto a bench, 
  18.     and Dax leans against a nearby wall, looks out across the 
  19.     compound.

  21.                     DAX
  22.             Deral, our scans showed that there 
  23.             are only about thirty of you on the 
  24.             entire planet...
  25.  
  26.                     DERAL
  27.             There were never many of us... we're 
  28.             the descendants of an expedition 
  29.             that was stranded here millennia 
  30.             ago.
  31.  
  32.                     DAX
  33.             And your population hasn't increased 
  34.             since then?
  35.  
  36.                     DERAL
  37.             It did, for a time... but over the 
  38.             last few centuries our numbers have 
  39.             dwindled.
  40.  
  41.     She hears the gravity in his tone, realizes that something's 
  42.     wrong.

  44.                     DERAL
  45.             You see, we only reproduce when we're 
  46.             in humanoid form... and our time 
  47.             here keeps growing shorter.  In twelve 
  48.             days, Meridian will shift back into 
  49.             it's non-corporeal state.
  50.  
  51.     Dax reacts -- it seems so short a time.

  54.             And stay there for sixty years... ?
