ABOUT THE INVTRO.17
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
1. PLACE & DATES
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
This year the party will be held in the "Velódromo de Anoeta", which
is located in the "Complejo deportivo Anoeta", in Donostia-San
Sebastian (Gipuzkoa). This is not last year's building, but it's a
hundred meters from it.
You can give a look to the attached map to see the location, marked
with a red circle, and how to get there from the railway station or
the bus one, following the red stipled line. Also with a red stipled
line is marked the way you must follow to come by car.
The party will start at 8:00am the 23th of July (Friday) and will finish
the 25th of July at 22:00 (Sunday).
It will be possible to stay inside the partyplace until 7:00am of
the monday.
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
2. PARTYPLACE
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
We'll have all the "Velodromo" for us, totalling 5000 m2.
There will be tables to put the monitors and computers, and of
course plugs and chairs.
We'll have a powerful sound system, a giant 8x6m screen, another
screen of 2x2m and a 5x5 meters VidiWall.
The partyplace will be open 24 hours a day for those who carry with
them the party identification, and it will be able to stay inside
at night, even with the computers working.
The partyplace has a changing-room with WC and showers with hot water,
and a cleaning service that will look after them, so that they're
in a perfect state during the three days.
Next to the partyplace there will be two rooms for sleeping.
(but, who wants to sleep?)
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
3. WHAT TO CARRY
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Each assistant can carry, if he wishes, his computer, work he has
made using it, programs, games, utilities and of course the las
Demos he has get.
Nobody should expect to find a computer free to copy graphics or demos
presented in the party. Another important thing is that each assistant
should carry with him its computer ready to plug in a single plug,
this meams to carry a plug robber.
Additionally, each user has to be self-independent. The organization
can't leave monitors, mouses, ...
The organization is not responsible of the breaking, stealing nor
deterioration of them.
You can come without anything, but we don't recommend that, in part
because it's more boring than coming with computer, an also because
it would be conveniente to meet as the highest amount of computer as
we can (up to 500 computers)
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
4. PARTY TV CHANNEL
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
There will be a mobile TV unit and a Party TV channel, so if you bring
a TV, you would be able to see all events and demos on the TV. At the
same time, all the people at Donostia would see it if they sintonize
the channel.
The VidiWall will emit different interviews and general views of the
Party with a team of about 12 people from the Escuela de Cine y Video.
Furthermore, all the compos and conferences will be broadcasted through
the Party TV channel at the same time they are projected on the big
screens, so they would be recorded on a Video Tape.
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
5. GENERAL RULES
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The Donostia Council has rented us the place and all the necessary
stuff to make the Party. We expect that everyone will have in mind the
importance of leave all the stuff as when we found it.
The place will be opened 24 hours a day, allowing us to go in and out
whenever we like, even at night. Every time we want to enter, we must
show the ticket to the doorman. Have in mind that it's not allowed to
make too much noise in the Party Place at night.
Also isn't allowed to smoke or to drink any alcohol drink in the Party
Place. To do so you must go to the Bar in the same Party Place but
separated from the computer zone.
We can't control that everybody behave correctly and respectful to the
rest of the people, but we think that this should be the natural
actuation of everyone of us.
We expect that appart from the problems of the organization of such type
of events, we won't have any added problem due to the assistants bad
behaviour, not accounting that if anything is broken, or there is too
much noise or bad behaviour in general, is possible that the Donostia
Council doesn't allow us to end the Party and of course doesn't allow
to organize the Party never more.
We will not doubt anytime to throw out anybody if required and to make
pay the damage done, or in extreme circumstances, to call the Police.
To get all under control, we will count with a security team.
During the replay of the presented works in the party, IT WILL BE
FORBIDDEN TO MAKE ANY NOISE, SOUND o MUSIC THAT COULD BOTHER THE
AUDIENCE. In case of repeatly breaking this rule, the organization
keeps its right for making the author of the noise to stop it, and
even to expel him from the party.
As you know, piracy is a crime, so we ask for the assistants to
refrain from bring pirate copies of commercial programs.
The unique type of sofware you could copy at the Party will be the work
done by every group or independent people, and the Freeware or Shareware
software.

+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
. COMPETITION GENERAL RULES
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
For each category and person only one work is allowed, except the
64kb and 4kb intros.
The production's author must be physically in the party. If it is
a teamwork, at least one of the members of the group must attend the
party, to give the production to the organizers, and to take the prize
in casi it wins one.
The productions must be presented before the deadline. No production
will be accepted after the deadline. Those deadlines will be announced
repeatedly.
The demos and intros can be tested in the compo machines to verify
they run correctly. The test will be done in order and as it is
possible.
Remind that it could be incompabilities between some video modes and
the video projector, this risk exists and it cannot be forseen.
Before each PC Demo, the computer will be reset to avoid incompabilities
with the former demo. ULTRINIT and SB16SET will be run to leave the Sound
Cards into a reasonable state. AMIGA: the computer will be switched Off
and then On again.
All the Demos and Intros must be able to abort pressing the ESC key or
pressing the left mouse button on Amiga productions. Those productions
that don't meet this rule will be disqualified.
The productions will be shown to the Jury before the big screen replay,
in another room. If the Jury disqualifies a production, it won't be
shown to the public. In the same way, the organization keeps its right
to disqualify any production with contents that are racis, of bad taste
or any other theme that could hurt publics sensibility.
If more than 15 productions present to a category, the Jury would be
able to do a preselection to discard productions to show to the public.
This is, only the best 15 productions will be shown in the big screen,
and the replay order won't necessarily be the clasification order
decided by the Jury.
During the showing of every compo entry at the Party, including Demos,
graphics and music, IT WON'T BE ALLOWED to play any type of sound or
noise at your computer that could annoy to the audience. In case somebody
doesn't follow this rule more than once, the Organization reserves the
right of force the autor of the noise to stop it, or even to throw him
out of the Party.
For the productions delivery, this year we'll have a dedicated
server again. Thanks to the type of net we're developing, you'll
be able to upload the productions quickly to the organization.
In any case, the productions can be delivered in disks and also in
CD-ROMs, but not in any other format. Productions delivered in
ZIP, JAZZ, Magneto-optics or hard disk will NO be accepted.
The Wild compo productions MUST be presented in VHS tapes, in SP
format (not Long Play). Disks and CD-ROM won't be accepted in the
Wild compo.
The sound table will be UNTOUCHABLE to anybody not belonging to the
organization. So the table will be adjusted the same way for everybody
at the music compos, and also in demos, intros, etc.
It won't be accepted ANY MACHINE to show any work (including Demos,
Intros, etc.) except those of the Organization's. All productions
must run in one of the organization's machines, in order to get
accepted in one of the compos.
ALL the works, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, will be spreaded after the prize
ceremony, even if they are Beta versions, and without having in mind the
authors want or not.
When delivering a production for any compo, you'll have to fill in
a file with some information. ALL THOSE WHO DON'T DELIVERY THE FILE
WITH THEIR INFORMATION WITH THEIR PRODUCTION, WON'T GET ACEEPTED THEIR
PRODUCTION TO THE COMPO. In the same way, ALL the productions must have
a FILE_ID.DIZ (identification file) inside or besides it. Any production
not meeting this rule won't be accepted, very important to identify
the production's authors and the productions themselves.
Every work presented at the Demo, Intro, Human Demo, or Animation Compos
must include at least a captured screen, to include it in the Web Page as
fast as possible, after the compo. This screen could be asked for by any
press agency or magazine that want to cover the Party

10. VOTING
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
This year, we're changing from the classic system of popular voting
to the Jury. After quite a lot people asked it in the last two years,
we've decided to test this system this year.
The system will have the following characteristics:
- The Jury will be composed in each compo by the same participants that
are in the partyplace. This is, the graphicians that participate in
de 2D compo, will be the 2d compo Jury.
- In the demo, intro and Wild compos, in which the works are done
by various members, there will be only one representant for each
production in the Jury. For examplo, for the demo compo Jury, if
the demo has been coded by 3 people, 2 graphicians and one musician,
only one of these people will be in the Jury.
- The Jury will meet in a diffent room for the private voting.
Depending on the compo, the Jury will be called for voting before,
during or after the competition has been showed in the big screen.
You have the meetings times in the compo-rules section, and it will
be also told to the participants when they give their productions, as
well as it will be remenbered by megaphony when the time is near.
- If more than 15 productions are presented to a competition, the
organization keeps its right to select 15 people between the
participants to limit the jury. In the same way, if there are less
than 15 productions, the organization keeps its right to call other
people to complete a Jury of a maximun of 15 people. There never
will be a Jury of more than 15 people.
- Similarly, if there are more than 15 productions in a compo, only
those in the first 15 postions will be shown in the big screen, with
no order, not to reveal the winners.
- A Jury's members HAS FORBIDDEN to vote his own production or his
groups production. If a member of a Jury breaks this rule, its vote
will be taken as null.
- Each member of the Jury will give a puntuation to all the productions
presented, but after it, he will have to chose the 5 productions that
he gave best puntuation. Those five will be counted in the end.
To the production with more points, he will give 5 points, to the
second 4, and so on until the 5th, which will have 1 point.
- The draws will be resolved as follows: first will be seen how many
times has got each production the first place, then how many times
the second position and so on...
- The votings result won't be revelaed untel the prize delivery,
in the Sunday afternoon, where the winners will be revealed.
Afterwards, the complete votings will be revealed, as well as the
name of the members of the Juries of each category. Never a vote
from a particular member of a Jury will be revealed, although the
Jury's members would be able to check whether their votes have
been counted and the count has been correct. We repeat, only the
Jury members.
- The organization keeps its right to change those rules in any
time without previous warning.
- If you have any problem, please contact with
humphrey@euskalparty.org.

11. COMPETITIONS FORM
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Any person or group that wishes to present any production to any
competition, would have to fill in the form that is in the
FICHAS.ZIP file, besides this info text.
When delivering the work, besides it you must give the FILE_ID.DIZ
identification file, additionally. You've it also in the ZIP file
besides this infotext.
You must give the form PRINTED ON PAPER. Please, don't give us the
form in a file. Print it, fill in, and when giving us your production
give it to us. Thank you.
Notes:
In the Wild Compo, the participants have to fill in the VHS tape's
card as it was the FILE_ID.DIZ file.
It is very important to fill in those forms and to give them with
your productions, because this way you save a lot of problems to the
organization, and you'll make the compos, votings and the party
itself more efficient, faster and easier for all.

14. PARTY NET
+-------------------------------------------------------------------------+
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
We will have a Party Network useable by all the computers that have a
net card with RJ45 connector. Every table of 16 computers will have a
hub that will offer 15 connections. The 16th will be used to cascade
connect all them. We discarded the idea of using coaxial cable, due to
the problems we had in past editions. It's supposed the good use of all
the stuff supplied by Euskaltel (HUBs, wires, etc.).
The net is for us, this means that its use depends on the good
functioning of it. The organization couldn't and don't want to control
the net from bad using of it (saturation with WinNukes, ICMP, bombs,
Mail bombs, Hacking, etc, etc). It depends on all us that the users
behave correctly.
At the entrance, a small sheet will tell you how to configure the
computers (preferably Windows 95/98) to access the net. The IP ç
addresses will be supplied by DHCP.
INTERNET CONECTION
Euskaltel, the new Euskadi global telecommunications operator, will
supply all the hardware and the installation required to allow the
Internet access at the Party. We will have a bandwidth proportional
to the number of connected computers, and also a cache proxy server
and a firewall. It's only allowed the external access through the
port 80 (World Wide Web).
We will count also with a local WWW Party server, continuously notifying
about all the outstanding Party events (timetables, votings, results,
etc.).
Keep in mind that this is a Party, not a hacking competition. We
can't avoid that anybody try to sabotage in any way the net, but remind
that the first affected are you. Anyway, if anybody is discovered
trying to use the net or any of the servers incorrectly, will be kicked
out of the Party.
PRODUCTIONS SERVER
This year we will have a dedicated server to allow the upload of the
productions directly to the organization, avoiding the annoying disks.
Of course, they will be valid yet.
We expect to have a Pentium II at 400MHz with 128MB of RAM and a 2GB
SCSI hard disk under Windows NT 4.0 (or possibly Linux). We hope this
will be sufficient to manage the estimated net traffic.
The productions will be sent throught FTP. An account will be created
for every group that present a DEMO, and an account for every one of
the rest of compos. The last will have only write permission, so to
correct mistakes you must contact with the organization. Instead, the
DEMO accounts will have full access, so every group has the
responsability of its use, reserving the organization its right to take
the control in case of bad use of it.
The productions must be sent compressed in ZIP, fulfilling the space
limitations of each competition (See compo rules)
Every production must have a FILE_ID.DIZ file with the next format:
Ticket Number: xxx
Competition: xxxxxxx
Production: xxxxxxxx
Author: xxxxxxx
Group: xxxxxxx
Commments: (Format, what program to use to see it, technical specs for
demos etc.):xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Every production that doesn't contain this file will be disqualified.
Immedately after the compo results, all the productions will be put on
the net server to be downloaded by the assistants, independently of the
Beta "state" of them.
