  8. BatCheck is a small and extremely useful application that monitors the
  9. status of the main and backup batteries.
  10.

  12. FEATURES

  15.  * Unlike other programs that only tell you the status of the batteries
  16.    when they are in foreground, BatCheck will gauge the battery levels
  17.    at certain time intervals (1-60 minutes, selectable).
  18.  
  19.  * Normally the program sits in the background using virtually no battery
  20.    power itself, wakes up when its time for a checking, and goes back to
  21.    sleep if the batteries are good, without disturbing you or being noticed.
  22.    If the batteries are not good, the program comes to the foreground
  23.    and warns you.
  24.  
  25.  * You can select two warning levels for both the main and backup batteries:
  26.    a 'low' and a 'replace' voltage level. This is particularly useful if
  27.    you use rechargeable cells where the voltage usually drops fast. By
  28.    setting a warning level higher than the built-in levels you can avoid
  29.    accidents caused by sudden battery power loss.
  30.  
  31.  * If you want, you can ask the program not to warn you repeatedly,
  32.    only once the first time when the main or backup levels reach the low
  33.    level. Next time it will only warn you if the machine has been switched
  34.    off then back on, or when they reach the replace level.

  36.  * You can ask the program to do a check at every switching on. If
  37.    you have lots of other startup programs, you can select a delay time for
  38.    battery check (0-20 seconds), so it will pop up after all the startup
  39.    programs are done with their jobs.

  41.  * You can also ask the program to monitor if the external power is connected
  42.    or not. This is great if you use your machine plugged-in, and the plug
  43.    slips out of the machine without being noticed.

  45.  * You can select a top limit for the main batteries, to prevent
  46.    accidental overcharge of rechargeable batteries by the mains adaptor.

  48.  * The program will tell you the voltage in 2 decimal values for greater
  49.    accuracy (e.g. 2.28 Volts).

  51.  * Toolbar support and full system-compliance.
  52.  
  53.  * The program is compatible with the Psion Series 5/5mx, Revo/Revo Plus,
  54.    Series 7/netBook classes of computers. The Help contains warning level
  55.    suggestions for 5/5mx machines. In any case, it is recommended that you
  56.    experiment with different warning levels and select the ones that best
  57.    fit you, as battery types and machine usage varies.

  62. INSTALLATION

  65.     1) BatCheck comes in a SIS installation package.
  66.        To install a SIS package, copy it to your Psion, and if you have
  67.        the Add/Remove  control panel installed, just click on the SIS file,
  68.        and it will be installed. If you  don't have this control panel yet,
  69.        you can download it the official Psion site (Downloads section).

  71.     2) If you are upgrading from a previous version please delete
  72.        c:\system\apps\batcheck.ini (or d:) manually, otherwise the program
  73.        will report an error message and won't run.

  75.     3) You're now ready to run BatCheck. It's icon should appear on
  76.        the Extras bar, so just click it!

  79. STATUS OF THE PROGRAM

  82.     BatCheck is FREEWARE!  I made it because I have almost lost all my
  83.     data  from  my  Psion, some program source codes even got damaged.
  84.     Well, I learned the lesson that rechargeables tend to die fast, so
  85.     here is a solution. Feel free to distribute the program, but don't
  86.     change the contents and layout of the original zip file please. If
  87.     you like this program,  please have a look at my other programs as
  88.     well (Encrypt-it!, FlashBack, PhotoPal, Moon).
