  6. "Howdy! My name is Jacaranda Jim.  I was on a routine
  7. space-journey to Jupiter (Sol system, Mutters Spiral) when my
  8. cargo-ship was taken over by a crack squad of homicidal beechwood
  9. armchairs. Desperate to avoid one of those really silly adventure
  10. games with words like "flip-flops" and "placid" in them I
  11. crashlanded into the wacky world of Ibberspleen IV.  (Where the
  12. most ridiculous word in circulation appears to be "plinth").

  14. "I was rescued from the burning wreckage by a smug little Gribbley
  15. called "Alan". This was just too much and I decided it would be
  16. wise to call it a day and lose consciousness.

  18. "At the moment I am still unconscious and this is all a dream -
  19. you've just interrupted a game of tennis I was having against a
  20. rhinoceros called "Hilda"."

  22. - So the introduction to this PC adventure goes. Many of you will
  23. already have heard of this game, it's been around for a while.
  24. As far as I can tell, it's not been written by a 'popular'
  25. utility, I've heard that Graham uses his own utility for writing
  26. adventures and if this is so, he's very talented in general
  27. programming, not to mention the adventure in question.  Jacaranda
  28. Jim is a wild and frenzied trip through a variety of strange
  29. locations, not to mention some strange creatures and characters.

  31. The humour is a bit restrained throughout, despite the
  32. introduction, but can afford a laugh on the odd occasion. I
  33. personally think this is a good thing, the humour taking second
  34. place to the puzzles. Some authors prefer to squeeze the puzzles
  35. in amongst the jokes - it works sometimes, but often doesn't. With
  36. JJ, however, the whole humour-puzzle interaction works very well,
  37. each one complimenting the other.

  39. Some of the puzzles are a little tricky, I would've preferred a
  40. few more hints, but perhaps that's just me being dim. All in all,
  41. though, this is a worthy game and a definite addition for anyone's
  42. adventure collection.
