Group of honeybees. The vast majority of bees spend their lives foraging for nectar, pollen and resin from flowers. At the height of the season at least 50,000 workers are involved in foraging. Each worker may visit 500-1000 blossoms on each trip, collecting 40-50 mg of nectar. It has been calculated that to produce 1 lb of honey a flight equivalent to the distance of three times around the world is needed.
