Worker bees. These bees, as their name implies, maintain and work the colony. The workers are sterile and can sting once, using the barbed sting stored in their abdomens. They use the sting to defend the colony and die afterwards. They are all closely related (75%) and their sacrifice helps to maintain their genetic identity.
