Default: ON
Extended YAPP
-------------
Now PTM has now build in the new Extended Yapp format (YappC).
This format works against FBB 5.14b and TPK v 1.65a
There is an error in FBB 5.14b, so if you want to do a Resume
from this version of FBB, then select the new format (YappC).
If you do a Yapp-Receive or Yapp-Resume with an other PTM-pro
gram, check the version. Use the old Yapp-format if the other
PTM-program is older than version 5.10. Else you can choose
both formats (Yapp or YappC)
Here is the syntax:
Press Alt Y (Yapp transfer)
Press R or U (Receive or resUme)
Press Y or C (Yapp or YappC - YappC is default)
Multi-language version of PTM.
------------------------------
News in this version:
French text - PTMSPEAK.FRA
German text - PTMSPEAK.DEU
Russian text - PTMSPEAK.RUS (not complete)
You can select many language in this version.
When a station connects you, PTM will change to
the correct language. If a LA-station connects
you, PTM will select Norwegian. The remote station
is able to change language using the LA-command
E.g.: LA ITA change to Italian.
This will be saved in the file LANGUAGE.LOG in the LOG-dir.
At the next Connect from the same user, PTM will still talk
Italian.
When startin this version the default language will be English.
The file PTMSPEAK.ENG must always be in the PTM-dir.
To start up in Italian type "PTM ITA", for French, type "PTM FRA".
Setup language in the setup-menu.
It is now possible for PTM to talk different language.
At the moment PTM is able to talk Danish, Swedish, Norwegian,
English, Italian, Spanish, French, German and Russian.
To display the Russian text you have to run the file EGAGARUS
before starting PTM. EGAGARUS is a Cyrillic font for EGA and VGA-
displays. To toggle between Latin and Cyrillic characters use
the Ctrl + Home keys.
You can use the Cyrillic characters in Terminal Mode and in the
Mailbox for writing Subject and Text in a mail.
You can select Russian or Homophonic Keyboard Layout in the
Setup-Menu.
Cyrillic Enhanced Keyboard - Russian Layout:
To show these characters, run the file EGAGARUS

Some rules before editing a PTMSPEAK.* file:
Do not change or delete the first line.
Do not change or delete the line-numbers and the ; (Semicolon)
If you need a 'space' in the end of a line,
then use _ (Underscore) instead. Not all editors will accept and
save an ordinary space in the end of a line.
Take care of the line length. For some of the text-strings there
are limit of space.
The text-file MUST NOT exceed 30Kb. (version 5.00 and 5.01 27Kb)
If you don't find your language in the setup-menu, edit a file
with the name PTMSPEAK.XXX or .YYY
If you do a good translation in your language, I would be glad if
you could send me a copy.
If you find any errors in the translated files, then edit the
files yourself and send me a note.
Toggle funktions:
Ctrl Home: Toggle between Latin/Cyrillic characters
You must run EGAGARUS.EXE before running PTM.EXE
Ctrl Page Up: Toggle Open Buffer at Connect on/off.
Ctrl Page Down: Toggle Close Buffer at Disconnect on/off.
Set defaults in the setup-menu for these 2 options.
TAB will be converted to 8 spaces in the Mailbox.
New commands in the internal mailbox:
F = Quit Mailbox and Forward at ones.
Q or ESC = Quit Mailbox - Forward at full hours.
New command in the internal and external mailbox:
LL # = List the Last 1 to 999 messages
MAILBOX:
The Mailbox has been revised.
The mail messages are now numbered serially and will be shown
in a List with the highest number first.
Type and Status on all types of mail (TS) - Type can be P (Priva-
te) or B (Bulletin). Status can be N (Not read), Y (Read),
$ (Not Forwarded) or F (Forwarded).
The file name of a mail message would look like this: 000123PN.MSG
or 000456B$.MSG
When you Kill a mail message it will still be on the disk, but now
with the extension .$SG
You must perform the DELETE *.$SG from your DOS-prompt if you
want to remove the killed mail messages for good.
PTM is now able to Forward to your HomeBBS.
In the SETUP-Menu - Mailbox - you must tell PTM to Forward,
and which Port to use. Also tell PTM the call of your HomeBBS.
When you want PTM to Forward a mail message enter the Mailbox
and write SP CALL @ BBS or SP CALL@BBS (SB will also work).
CALL is the callsign of the receiver. BBS is the HomeBBS of the
receiver, NOT your own HomeBBS.
Then proceed with the usual stuff: Subject and Text.
Also see the SB and SP commands.
When you leave the Mailbox with the F-key, PTM will try to
connect to your HomeBBS and Forward the mail message at ones.
If you leave the Mailbox with the Q or ESC key, the Forward will
take place at full hours.
After achieving the Connect, PTM will send [PTM-5.00-M$]
to tell the BBS, that you want to Forward.
The BBS will send a new prompt: >
PTM sends a header: SP OZ0XY @ OZ0BBS < OZ0XYZ $00024_OZ0XYZ
to BBS from BID
The BBS will answer OK, and PTM will send your mail message.
At the end of the mail PTM will send /EX
and the BBS answers with another prompt: >
This sequence will be repeated until all the messages have been
sent.
PTM will then Disconnect.
PTM will try to Forward every hour if there is any mail messages.
A remote station can send a mail message to be Forwarded through
your Mailbox.
The syntax is the same: SP CALL @ BBS
PTM is also able to receive a Forwarded mail message from your
local BBS or from other PTM-users. Ask your local BBS-Sysop,
to set you up for this feature.
When PTM receives a special prompt - [Prg-Ver-$] - PTM will
make ready for a forward-session.
PTM will send a single prompt: > and wait for the header.
The BBS will send the header: SP CALL @ CALL < CALL $BID
and PTM will answer back, OK or NO.
PTM will check the BID, if BID Check in the Setup-menu is ON.
The BBS sends subject and text and finishes with /EX
When the BBS has sent all mail messages, it will end up with: F>
PTM is not able to make a Reverse-Forward but will send
a Disconnect at this point.
There is no guarantee that this feature will work with all
types of BBS - I have tested this feature against the FBB-BBS.
NEW Commands in the Remote and the Internal Mailbox:
LN - List New - List all new mail messages for you.
RN - Read New - Read all new mail messages for you.
NEW Toggle function - Shift F3 - Toggle PTM Connect-text ON/OFF
If set to OFF, PTM will not send all the connect-texts:
[PTM 5.00] - *** Hello Name - *** Commands: //B, //H ......
and WELCOME.DAT will not be sent.
Default at startup: ON
Setup-menu - Mailbox - BID Check: Set this option to ON or OFF.
Delete the oldest entries in the file BIDCHECK.PTM ones in a
while. Don't keep more than the latest 100 entries.
*** Improved Mail Snatching with a better Prompt-recognition. ***
Shift F10 = Mail Snatching On/Off - Toggle function.
Automatic Mail Collect.
The function works like this:
When PTM traces a mail-beacon with your callsign in it
the following message will be displayed:
"*** Wait for the next n min. - Mail Snatching in progress"
A flashing message will also appear in the Mail-window:
" WAIT ".
PTM will count down n minutes (n = 1 to 4), then
attempt to connect the station sending the mail-beacon.
If PTM succeeds in connecting, it will wait for the first
prompt: >
Then PTM sends "RM" (Read Mine).
PTM will also open a mail file to store the message in.
When PTM has collected the message and sees the next prompt,
it will close the file and send "KM" (Kill Mine)
Finally, on the 3th prompt, PTM sends "B" (Bye)
and, hopefully, the program will disconnect.
The Mail-window will then show a flashing message: "MAIL"
All messages collected in this manner will be given
the subject text: *** SNATCHED ***
PTM will recognize the word MAIL and the default word
POST (Alternative Mail Trace Word). As an option,
you can select another trace word, e.g. TELEX, LETTER,
or MESSAGE.
Set your modem-parameter: Monitor = ON
Set PTM-parameter: Mail Snatching = ON
Shift F9 = Display Trace Buffer.
This function works like an MHeard-buffer, but will detect
the callsign of a station sending a packet with your
callsign in it. It will display the time of the frame and if
the frame was a Mail-beacon or a File-beacon.
PTM will recognize the words MAIL, FILE and the default
word POST (Alternative Mail Trace Word).
Set your modem-parameter: Monitor = ON.
Example:
*** OZ0ZK was traced from:
OZ0BBS 02-Nov-91 23.17.20 Mail-beacon ; mail for you at OZ0BBS
OZ0PU 02-Nov-91 22.37.45 File-beacon ; file for you at OZ0PU
OZ0PAC 02-Nov-91 17.22.30 ; saw your callsign from OZ0PAC
Shift F8 = Clear Mail Snatching.
*****************************************************************************
How to Register your PTM
When starting this version you will se a flashing text
asking you to register the program.
Do not despair......
Instead, do one of the following things:
1: Write me a packet-message and I will send you your personal
serial-number.
2: Write me a letter and enclose 1 IRC.
I will return you your own serial-number.
3: Phone me between 17.00 and 20.00 CET, and you will get
your serial-number at once. Phone: (+45)42646962.
State your CALL-SIGN, Name and Address, Modem, and type of PC.
If you do not register your copy at once the only consequence
is that PTM will flash a reminder for 30 sec's before starting
up. There are no others limitations in the program.
I have worked on PTM for the last 2 years, spending more
than 500 night hours to improve the program. No wonder
I am curious as to where my PTM is running! I hope you will
take the time to tell me. Your serial-number will work with
all new versions.

IMPORTANT:
When doing a connect, the PTM ver.4.50 and later will check if the
Data Carrier Detect (DCD) signal on Pin 8 of your modem's RS-232
interface is present or not.
Check you Packet Modem Manual for further details.
Hopefully, your modem supports this function!
************************************************************************
PK-88 Notes:
Data Carrier Detect (DCD Pin 8) Jumper JP3
Jumper post JP3, located in front of J1, between integrated circuits
U4 and U5, is factory set so that DCD Pin 8 is permanently pulled
high, so you have to move the JP3 jumper plug to the opposite position,
if not done yet.
See the PK-88 schematic diagram in the Appendices section for further
details on JP3.
************************************************************************
PK-232 Notes:
Set your modemparameter: DCDCONN = ON
************************************************************************
Remote Control on a Serial Port:
Mailbox Command: XC = Remote Control on a serial port.
Now it is possible to remote control a serial COM port.
When installing PTM, set up the primary COM port for your Packet-Modem
and the secondary COM-port for your remote line. It should be possible
to connect any RS232 device to this port, for instance another TNC modem,
a secondary PC, or any other device with an RS232 interface.
To Exit the remote-function send a Ctrl-Z.
You can determine if this function needs SYSOP-Status, when setting up
the program.
************************************************************************
YAPP Resume:
Now you can Resume a YAPP-transfer. If you get a Time-out, a Disconnect,
or you cancel a Transfer, you will be prompted to Delete or Save the
already received file if you have received at least 3 blocks.
PTM will always delete the 2 last blocks.
If you save it you can retrieve the rest of the file now or later.
Just ask for the file again: YD Filename
PTM will send an off-set to the other part, and the transfer will start
from there.
This function works with the newest FBB-BBSs and between two PTMs
if the version is 4.46 or higher.
************************************************************************
If you have 2 modems you can add these files to change parameter
when Connected and Disconnected:
When Modem 1 is Connected, new parameters are sent to Modem 2
- filename BUSY2.TNC
When Modem 1 is Disconnected, new parameters are sent to Modem 2
- filename NOTBUSY2.TNC
When Modem 2 is Connected, new parameters are sent to Modem 1.
- filename BUSY1.TNC
When Modem 2 is Disconnected, new parameters are sent to Modem 1
- filename NOTBUSY1.TNC
Use the files to change CText, Auto-Disconnect on/off
The files are like START.TNC and STOP.TNC
************************************************************************
HARDWARE REMOTE-CONTROL FUNCTIONS:
Remote-commands FH, FS of F# are no longer valid.
New Commands:
XH - Help on Remote Functions.
The File FHELP.DAT will be sent.
Create this file yourself!

Make these files yourself!
Ctrl C in the F#.DAT files enables you to give Modem Commands
in the F#.DAT files. Don't forget to place it after the text to
be sent. It will add an extra delay (10 sec.) after the
text is transmitted and before the modem will enter the Command Mode.
A delay (10 sec.) will always be added when the whole file has been sent.
e.g.: F5.DAT
*** Switch to 1200 Baud, at Your End ! ; Sends this text to Connected Station
Ctrl C (char. 03H) ; Delay 10 sec. and
; Set Modem in Command Mode
MODE VP 1200 ; Modem Command

The function works like this:
When PTM traces a mail-beacon with your callsign it will display
the message
"*** Wait for the next n min. - Mail Snatching in progress"
PTM will also flash the word "WAIT" in the mail-window.
PTM will count down n minutes (n = 1 to 4) then attempt to
connect the station which sent the mail-beacon.
If PTM gets connected it will wait for the first prompt: >
Then PTM sends the text: RM (Read Mine)
PTM will also open a mail file to store the message in.
When PTM has collected the message and sees the next prompt
it will close the file and send the text: KM (Kill Mine)
Finally, on the 3rd prompt, PTM sends a "B" (Bye)
and hopefully, the program will disconnect.
The Mail-window will then flash with "MAIL".
All messages collected in this manner will be given the subject-
text: *** SNATCHED ***
Set your modem-parameter: Monitor = ON
Set PTM-parameter: Mail Snatching = ON

When somebody is connected to you:
First-time users must use the N command (N Name) in the mailbox before
seeing the mailbox command line.
The next time you are called, PTM will say "*** Hallo Name".
The calling station will see a Welcome text. You have to design your own text
in a file called WELCOME.DAT. A kind of an extended CTEXT.
PTM then sends its own connect-text.
PTM tells the calling station if there is any mail or file on hand.
A help text for the commands can be displayed.
Type '//H' for Help on an empty line:
//B PTM sends BYE.DAT and disconnects the calling station.
//C Chat, to page the SYSOP. Sounds a bell 6 times within a minute.

ends. See how to do this with the CF1-command.

show that the command was received and the password-number 0123 will
be used. This password will be found in your list and be used
as a part of the crypto-key.
All traffic handling between you and the other party cannot
be read by anyone else. You can send/receive/list mail
in this mode.
Do not perform a binary file-transfer in this mode. Still a problem!
If you send //CR again, the other party will send //#0000 and you
will be back in normal mode. This function will be turned off when
//B is used to disconnect.
