G1 Important note:
This Win95 driver has been developed and tested with Windows95(Beta)
"Built 440-480". All earlier and later versions of Windows95(Beta)
may cause problems with this driver.
A final release of the driver will be available when Microsoft will
deliver the first official release of Windows95.
For the SPEA V7 boards with S3 chipset are special Windows95 drivers
available: SPEA BigWin95 (Mailbox, CompuServe)
Other SPEA V7 boards:
Please install the respective Microsoft driver or the SPEA BigWin
driver for Windows 3.x
G2 V7 S3 boards: To install the BigWin95 use V7SETUP only!
For STORM PRO, VEGA PLUS, VEGA PRO, MIRAGE VL - the driver for Windows 3.x
has to be used. Reconfigure Windows95 for standard VGA and call V7SETUP
to install/configure BigWin.
G3 Using a graphics board with a S3 Chip please make sure that the VESA
driver V7*VBE.EXE is already loaded (AUTOEXEC.BAT) and the variable
GDC=... has been set.
G4 Please make sure that the correct type of graphics board was selected:
S3 VISION864 - not S3 864 for V7-Mirage P-64.
S3 VISION964 - not S3 964 for V7-Mercury P-64.
The S3 801/928/964 driver can not be used for Mirage VL >>> install the
SPEA drivers for Windows 3.x!
G5 Click with right mouse buttom onto the desktop, "Properties"/"Display",
select in list "image" "symbol", change the size under (i.e. 32 to 40),
select "save" and change back to 32.
Now the icons will be displayed correctly, up to the next change of the
resolution.
G6 The refresh rate of the driver in Windows95 is defined by the monitor
selection/configuration.
If you use the SPEA BigWin driver the refresh rate can be configured with
the V7SETUP utility.
G7 SYSTEM.INI - [car1k.drv] - set CHIPSYNC=1.
G8 This function is not supported by the current SPEA Windows 3.x driver
under Windows95.
G9 There are a number of different versions of the Beta Windows 95
software which we were not able to test all of. Some of these builds
operate in different ways with the databank. Please make sure that you
are using version (build) 4.00.440 or higher! To check your version,
click the right mouse button over the 'Desktop' icon, select the item
'Properties' and check the version number stated under System Microsoft
Windows 95 4.00.xxx.
Both BigWin95 and the Win95 drivers for V7-VEGA PLUS and V7-VEGA VIDEO
were only tested with Win95 builds 440 ... 480 and released exclusively
for these. If you have problems then you must obtain the stated beta
versions (see above).
Note:
Microsoft is offering a patch for the Windows Beta Release Build 347
(= March Beta, 'M8'. This resolves the following problem, which only
occurs with build 347:
- BigWin95 driver: DOS box problem (V7- S3 boards).
- V7-VEGA PLUS: resolution change in V7SETUP not possible.
The patch is available in the SPEA Mailbox (file: VDD.ZIP).
G10 Thsi occurs exclusively with BigWin95 v1.00 and the screensaver
Science (all other screensavers function correctly). This bug will be
corrected with the final release of Windows 95.
G11 See the SYSTEM.INI file and change under [CAR1K.DRV] the option
BASEADDRESS= to 1, 2 or 3 (for 8/16/32 MB system memory)
