321The vision loss of glaucoma results from the pressure of built-up fluid within the eye. Fluid normally passes through a narrow space between your iris and lens (see inset), then drains out of your eye through the channel of Schlemm. If this outward flow is blocked, pressure can damage your optic nerve and reduce vision.
