- Selecting SEARCH will display a
- dialog box that will ask you to enter
- the character or word that you wish to
- find. You may enter your 'STRING' in
- either upper or lower case. After you
- have entered your 'STRING' press the
- Return key.

- Another dialog box will be
- displayed showing you how many times
- your 'STRING' was found. Press the
- right mouse button or any key to
- continue.

- Ascii-View will not search for a
- SPACE. If a search locates more than
- 1000 'STRINGS' it will abort the
- search. This is a safety feature to
- avoid using up all available memory.

- By left clicking on the FORWARD
- and REVERSE commands located on the
- bottom of the screen you can scroll
- through the occurrences of your
- search.

- The 'STRING' will be located on
- the tenth line unless the 'STRING' is
- located in the first ten or last ten
- lines of the file in which case it
- will be shown in it's original
- position relative to the currently
- displayed page. The 'STRING will be
- displayed in inverse video.

- The box labeled TOP LINE NUMBER =
- shows what the top line number is for
- page that is currently displaying the
- 'STRING'.

- To return to the main screen
- simply click the right mouse button or
- press any key.

- Selecting PRINT will display an
- alert box that will ask you to verify
- that you wish to print the entire
- file.

- If you wish to print the entire
- file either press Return or click the
- left mouse button in the box labeled
- 'Yes'. If you don't want to print the
- entire file click the left mouse
- button in the box labeled 'No'.

- If you try to print a file and
- your printer is not turned on or not
- connected properly an alert box will
- be displayed giving you the option to
- turn on your printer or to abort the
- printing of the file. If you wish to
- print a part of the file select BLOCK.

- Selecting BLOCK will display a
- dialog box located in the upper right
- of the screen showing you the choices
- you may select from. Only the Block
- Start, Block End and Exit commands are
- enabled until a legal block has been
- defined. Following is a description
- of each command and how to use them.

- Block Start

- Block start signifies the first
- line of the block of which you will
- define. To select this line click the
- RIGHT mouse button anywhere on this
- line and then click the LEFT mouse
- button on the Block Start command. If
- everything went correctly the line
- number will be shown next to the Block
- Start command.

- Block End
-
- Block end signifies the last line
- of the block of which you will define.
- To select this line click the RIGHT
- mouse button anywhere on the line
- BELOW the last line that you wish to
- define as the Block End and then click
- the LEFT mouse button on the Block End
- command. If everything went correctly
- the line number will be shown next to
- the Block End command.

- Block Off

- If a legal block has already been
- defined, selecting this command will
- clear the block markers and turn off
- the block.

- Block Start, Block End, Block Off

- In conjunction with these
- commands once a legal block has been
- defined you must select exit before
- these commands will become visible.
- After exiting and a legal block has
- been set, the text in the block will
- be displayed in inverse video on a
- monochrome system and the text will be
- in a different color on a color
- system. After exiting, and a block
- has been turned off, the text will be
- returned to its original status.

- You may set you block in either
- direction (Block End before Block
- Start) it doesn't matter. If you have
- defined one of your block markers and
- can't see the line that you wish to
- define as the other block marker,
- simply exit the BLOCK dialog box and
- locate the line the line you wish to
- define. Now recall the BLOCK dialog
- box and set the block marker.

- Block Print

- If a legal block has been defined
- selecting Block Print will enable you
- to print the block. After selecting
- Block Print an alert box will be
- displayed asking you to verify if you
- wish to print this block of text. If
- you wish to print the block either
- press Return or click the left mouse
- button in the box labeled 'Yes'. If
- you don't want to print the box click
- the left mouse button in the box
- labeled 'No'.

- If you try to print the block and
- your printer is not turned on or is
- not connected properly an alert box
- will be displayed giving you the
- option to turn on your printer or to
- abort the printing of the block. If
- you wish to print the entire file
- select the PRINT command.

- If a legal block has been defined
- selecting this command will enable you
- to delete the block from memory. After
- selecting this command an alert box
- will be displayed asking you to verify
- that you wish to delete this block of

- mouse button in the box labeled 'Yes'.
- If you don't want to delete the block
- click the left mouse button in the box
- labeled 'No'.

- If a legal block has been defined
- selecting this command will enable you
- to delete everything EXCEPT this block
- of text. After selecting this command
- an alert box will be displayed asking
- you to verify that you wish to delete
- everything EXCEPT this block. If you
- wish to delete everything EXCEPT this
- block either press Return or click the
- left mouse button in the box labeled
- 'Yes'.

- 'No'. If you select 'Yes' you will be
- returned to the Main screen otherwise

- If a legal Block has been defined
- selecting this command will bring up
- the standard GEM file selector box. If
- you wish to save this block type in
- the name of the file and either press
- Return or click the left mouse button
- in the box labeled 'Ok'. If you don't
- want to save the block either press
- Return without typing in a filename or
- click the left mouse button in the box
- labeled 'Cancel'.

- After the block has been saved
- you will be returned to the BLOCK
- dialog box.

- Selecting Exit will always return
- you to the Main screen. If a legal

- block has not been set or the block

- Selecting LOAD will display the
- standard GEM file selector box.

- To load a file simply locate the
- ASCII file that you wish to view and
- either single click on that file and
- press Return or double click on your
- chosen file.

- Ascii-View will now check the
- file to verify that it is indeed an
- ASCII file. If it is an ASCII file
- Ascii-View will continue with the
- loading of the file and then display
- the first 23 line page of text.

- Since you have made it this far
- you probably already know how to
- select the different help screens but
- just in case....

- dialog box on the right of the screen
- showing you the choices you may select
- from. Move the mouse to the command
- that you need help with which should
- now be in inverse video and click the
- left mouse button on it.

- A new dialog box will now be

- showing the help information that you
- requested.

- In most cases there is more than
- one page of help per command. To view
- the other pages use the Forward and
- Reverse buttons to scroll through the
- various pages.

- Selecting the button labeled
- 'Keyboard Equivalents' will display a
- dialog box showing all the Keyboard
- Equivalents used by Ascii-View. To
- exit this dialog box press the right
- mouse button or any key.

- select help screen where you may
- choose additional help.

- a dialog box in which you may enter a
- number in between 0 and the last line
- of the file. When you have entered a
- valid line number and pressed Return
- you will instantly go to that line in
- the file. It will be displayed as the
- first line on the page.

- line number you will be returned to
- the file you were viewing with no
- changes having taken place.

- that there are in the entire file.

- of the Main screen.
