  5. THE SHAREWARE CONCEPT
  6. "Shareware" is a revolutionary software distribution method, NOT a type of
  7. software.  Shareware programs are produced by programmers, just like other
  8. retail software. Some shareware programs are free programs (freeware) or
  9. programs in the public domain, which are not copyrighted.  But the vast
  10. majority of shareware programs are copyrighted software programs that are
  11. distributed by their authors through bulletin boards, online services, disk
  12. vendors and copies passed among friends: they are similar to commercial
  13. software products except that you're allowed to try them before paying for it.
  14. If you use any of the shareware programs included on this four disk set that
  15. are not freeware or public domain shareware, you are obliged to pay
  16. registration fees to the authors of the programs. These registration fees
  17. enable the authors to continue to develop software products.  Information
  18. about registering and registration fees is contained inside the compressed
  19. files, usually at the beginning or end of each program.  Please show your
  20. support for the shareware concept by registering those programs you actually
  21. use. Remember, the shareware distribution system and the availability of
  22. quality shareware products depends on your willingness to register the
  23. shareware programs you use and to pay the registration fees.

  26. YOUR SHAREWARE PURCHASE FROM TONS & GIGS INC.
  27. Our role is to bring a convenient "bulletin board" to you.  This four disk
  28. set is a collection of roughly 15,000 programs that have been downloaded from
  29. other bulletin boards, mainly in Europe.  A few may not run on your computer
  30. hardware due to obsolescence or other technical reasons.  We have spent
  31. considerable effort to organize the massive volume of shareware material on
  32. these disks in a simple and user-friendly way.  We would like to make it
  33. clear, however, that we are not actually selling to you any of the shareware
  34. programs included on these disks.  Rather you are purchasing an organized
  35. framework or, if you wish, a ready-to-run bulletin board package - on which
  36. the downloaded programs we have included are provided at no additional cost
  37. as a service to the various shareware authors.  In this way, shareware authors
  38. have an enhanced distribution system for their products, thereby increasing
  39. their potential shareware registration revenue.
  40. We have tried to inspect the enormous volume of material on this four disk
  41. CD set in order to eliminate any copyrighted programs that were not intended
  42. to become part of the shareware distribution system, but inadvertently we may
  43. have missed a few or not have had enough information from the downloaded
  44. material to make an informed judgment or we may have assumed, because of the
  45. length of time that downloaded material had been left on other bulletin boards,
  46. that the authors of such material had left them in the public domain. Should
  47. you come across any copyrighted or restricted programs that were not intended
  48. to become part of the shareware distribution system, please (a) respect any
  49. restrictions concerning their use and (b) notify us so that we may remove them
  50. from our next production.

  54. We warrant for a period of one year from the date of your purchase that this
  55. CD-ROM set is free from defects in workmanship and materials. We make no other
  56. warranty or representation.  Any use of these disks other than as a personal
  57. retrieval system is not warrantied.  We have no responsibility for the
  58. contents, accuracy, use or abuse of the shareware programs included on these
  59. disks. As a precaution, we have attempted to ensure that the shareware
  60. included in this CD-ROM set is free from viruses, but no known defences exist
  61. that can guarantee that all viruses have been eradicated.  In case of any
  62. claims against us for defective products, you must return the defective item
  63. to us at your cost together with your original proof of purchase.  Our sole
  64. liability is to provide you with a replacement set or its equivalent; we are
  65. not liable for any indirect or consequential damages you may suffer through
  66. your use of this product. By using this product, you agree to be bound by the
  67. terms set out above.
