  2. Ventura Publisher
  3. 4.1.1 for Windows Update
  4.  
  5. Enclosed is your Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 for Windows update.
  6.  
  7. Please read through these release notes before installing the Ventura 
  8. Publisher 4.1.1 for Windows update. 
  9.  
  10. The release notes will describe how to install the Ventura Publisher 
  11. 4.1.1 update, and the issues addressed in this update.
  12.  
  13. IMPORTANT!!
  14. ===============================================================================
  15. This update disk does not contain a complete set of program files. 
  16. You must have Ventura Publisher 4.1 for Windows installed before installing 
  17. this update. Do not delete the files from your VENTURA directory; 
  18. the installation program will update the files in your current installation. 
  19. The update installation will not affect any data files (e.g., text, 
  20. width tables, style sheets).

  23. If you need to reinstall Ventura Publisher 4.1 for Windows at a later 
  24. time, this update will also need to be reinstalled.
  25.  
  26. This update cannot be used to update a Ventura Publisher 
  27. 4.0 for Windows installation. Installing this update to a Ventura 
  28. Publisher 4.0 (or 4.0.1) installation will cause improper operation 
  29. of Ventura Publisher.

  31.  
  32. INSTALLATION
  33. ============
  34.  
  35. To install the Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 update:
  36.  
  37. >> Ensure that Ventura Publisher 4.1 for Windows has previously
  38.    been installed, and note the drive on which the Ventura Publisher
  39.    program files are installed.
  40.  
  41. >> Run Windows 3.0 or above in standard or enhanced mode.
  42.  
  43. >> Insert the Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 for Windows update disk
  44.    in the appropriate diskette drive.
  45.  
  46. >> Select the Run option from the Program Manager File
  47.    menu.
  48.  
  49. >> On the Command Line entry field, enter:
  50.  
  51.    [floppy]:\SETUP
  52.  
  53.    where [floppy] is replaced with the letter of the diskette drive
  54.    containing the update disk. Click on the OK button, or press
  55.    the Enter key.
  56.  
  57. >> When the update installation program screen appears, use the
  58.    drive select buttons to select the drive on which Ventura Publisher
  59.    4.1 for Windows is installed.
  60.  
  61. >> Click on the Continue button to install the update files.
  62.    Click on the Exit button to quit the installation program.
  63.  
  64. >> The update installation program will not create a
  65.    new Ventura Publisher icon. Simply use the icon labeled Ventura
  66.    Publisher 4.1 to start Ventura Publisher 4.1.1.
  67.  
  68. Ventura Scan update
  69. -------------------
  70.  
  71. The Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 disk also contains update files
  72. for Ventura Scan. These update files provide support for TWAIN-compliant 
  73. scanners and are required only if you need to use Ventura Scan with 
  74. a TWAIN-compliant scanner.
  75.  
  76. The Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 update must be installed prior to installing 
  77. the Ventura Scan update drivers.
  78.  
  79. These procedures are also used if you have not previously installed 
  80. Ventura Scan, and wish to install Ventura Scan for use with a TWAIN-compliant 
  81. scanner. 
  82.  
  83. To install the Ventura Scan update files:
  84.  
  85. NOTE:
  86. ===============================================================================
  87. You will need the Ventura Publisher 4.1 program disks available to perform
  88. this installation.
  89. ===============================================================================
  90.  
  91. >> Open the Ventura Publisher group windows in Program Manager
  92.    and double-click on the VENTURA SETUP icon
  93.  
  94.    OR
  95.  
  96.    Select the Run option from the Program Manager File menu
  97.    and enter the following in the Command Line entry field:
  98.  
  99.    [vpdrive]:\VENTURA\SETUP
  100.  
  101.    where [vpdrive] is replaced with the letter of the drive on
  102.    which Ventura Publisher 4.1.1 is installed. Click on the OK
  103.    button or press the Enter key.
  104.  
  105. >> When the Ventura Publisher Install dialog box is displayed, click on
  106.    the Custom button.
  107.  
  108. >> When the Ventura Publisher Custom Installation dialog box is displayed,
  109.    check the Scan checkbox.
  110.  
  111. >> Use the drive select buttons adjacent to the Scan option to change the
  112.    drive to that on which Ventura Publisher is installed.
  113.  
  114. >> Click on the Continue button.
  115.  
  116. >> When the Scanners dialog box is displayed, select the TWAIN 1.0 option
  117.    and then click on the OK button.
  118.  
  119. >> When the Ventura Publisher Install dialog is displayed (prompting
  120.    for the Applications Disk), insert the Applications Disk (disk 1)
  121.    from the Ventura Publisher 4.1 program disks in the appropriate floppy
  122.    disk drive. It may be necessary to change the path displayed to reflect
  123.    the disk drive in which the Applications Disk is inserted.
  124.  
  125. >> Click on the OK button or press the Enter key.
  126.  
  127. >> When the Ventura Publisher Install dialog is again displayed
  128.    (prompting for the Scan/Separator Disk), insert the Scan/Separator
  129.    Disk (disk 6) from the Ventura Publisher 4.1 program disks in the appropriate
  130.    floppy disk drive.
  131.  
  132. >> Click on the OK button or press the Enter key.
  133.  
  134. >> When the Ventura Publisher Install dialog is again displayed
  135.    (prompting for the Scan/Separator Disk), insert the Ventura Publisher
  136.    4.1.1 update disk in the appropriate floppy disk drive.
  137.  
  138. >> Click on the OK button or press the Enter key.

  140.  
  141. Ventura Scan and TWAIN-compliant scanners
  142. -----------------------------------------
  143.  
  144. Ventura Scan will support the TWAIN driver with the following limitations.
  145.  
  146. o  The scanner must be installed and turned on before starting
  147.    Ventura Publisher. The TWAIN driver will cause unpredictable results
  148.    if the scanner is not installed or turned on before starting Ventura
  149.    Publisher (e.g., series of error messages, General Protection Fault).
  150.  
  151. o  Ventura Scan does not support TWAIN-compliant hand scanners,
  152.    or other scanners that do not have a non-fixed scan lengths.
  153.  
  154. o  Your scanner may have additional requirements that must
  155.    be met before it can operate under Windows using the TWAIN drivers.
  156.    Refer to the documentation accompanying the scanner for these requirements.
  157.  
  158. o  The TWAIN driver supplied with Ventura Publisher was tested
  159.    and verified on a limited number of TWAIN-compliant scanners available
  160.    at the time of production. TWAIN-compliant scanners released subsequent
  161.    to the the release of Ventura Publisher's TWAIN driver may not be
  162.    compatible.
  163.  
  164.  
  165. ISSUES ADDRESSED
  166. ================
  167.  
  168. This section describes the issues addressed in this update.
  169.  
  170.  
  171. Button Configuration Editor
  172. ---------------------------
  173.  
  174. The button bar editor will now make a backup of the VPWIN.INI when 
  175. when saving changes to the button bar.
  176.  
  177. If the frame mode Grid & Select All buttons are removed, the button 
  178. bar editor now allows them to be reinserted into the button bar.
  179.  
  180.  
  181. Enhancements
  182. ------------
  183.  
  184. Ventura Publisher now supports typing over highlighted text. If you 
  185. highlight a range of text and then begin typing, the highlighted text 
  186. will be replaced with the entered text.
  187.  
  188. Memory management enhancements have been made.
  189.  
  190.  
  191. General
  192. -------
  193.  
  194. Repeating frame no longer disappears when the Undo command is selected 
  195. after applying a frame tag to the repeating frame.
  196.  
  197. A UAE/GPF no longer occurs when opening a chapter if the frame tag 
  198. file (.FRM) associated with the chapter is deleted, and the chapter 
  199. contains frames that have both a frame tag assigned to them and a 
  200. caption.
  201.  
  202. Ventura Publisher will now run if the HASH.FID file size is a multiple 
  203. of 16K bytes.
  204.  
  205. The date in a header/footer is now invalid on the last day of the 
  206. months.
  207.  
  208. Corel 3.0's OLE features now work correctly with Ventura Publisher.
  209.  
  210. Attempting to make a repeating frame from a frame that is assigned 
  211. a frame tag now works correctly.
  212.  
  213. Typing in table cells no longer continues text into neighboring cells.
  214.  
  215. Text cursor no longer appears in other paragraphs, columns, or table 
  216. cells after a page refresh when entering text.
  217.  
  218. A UAE/GPF no longer results from turning off Auto-numbering while 
  219. the text cursor in in an auto-numbered paragraph.
  220.  
  221. A UAE/GPF no longer results from adding a large number of pages.
  222.  
  223.  
  224. Installation
  225. ------------
  226.  
  227. The installation program no longer requires the renaming of SHARE.EXE 
  228. for proper installation.
  229.  
  230. The installer will no longer copy files from an older version of Ventura 
  231. if the VENTURA directory is in the path.
  232.  
  233. Using the Custom installation option to install only Ventura Scan 
  234. will now correctly install Ventura Scan.
  235.  
  236. The installer's temporary directory (\WINDOWS\TEMP) is now erased 
  237. after installation.
  238.  
  239. The installed setup application (SETUP2.EXE) now works under Windows 
  240. 3.0.
  241.  
  242. The HP IIC scanner color correction is now available in Ventura Separator.
  243.  
  244. The installer now includes the ability to install the TWAIN scanner 
  245. driver.
  246.  
  247. Enhanced SCAN.INI now defaults to no scanner selected.
  248.  
  249.  
  250. Memory
  251. ------
  252.  
  253. A warning message is now displayed when exceeding the memory limits 
  254. set in the Help dialog box.
  255.  
  256. Multichapter Operations
  257.  
  258. The Multichapter Copy All command will now correctly copy chapter 
  259. files with a large number of files or lengthy path entries.
  260.  
  261. Search & replace now works correctly when encountering a paragraph 
  262. containing an index entry of 23 characters and footnote entry.

  265. Printing
  266. --------
  267.  
  268. Pages displayed as greeked in reduced view no longer prints as greeked.

  271. User Interface
  272. --------------
  273.  
  274. The zero point on the ruler will now update properly while working 
  275. in the text/paragraph mode.
  276.  
  277. The two-way sizing arrow now appears when trying to size the Auto-Numbering 
  278. tag list, or the Classic mode tag and files list.
  279.  
  280. Highlighting a range of text for deletion using the Delete key no 
  281. longer requires the mouse to be moved before deleting the text.
  282.  
  283. Classic mode tag list now minimizes and restores correctly.
  284.  
  285. The button bar and pull down menus can no longer cause a UAE/GPF by 
  286. becoming selectable when working with the Special Effects option.
  287.  
  288. Auto-numbering no works correctly when a tag containing an accented 
  289. character is selected from the Auto-Numbering tag list.

  291.  
  292. Video Cards
  293. -----------
  294.  
  295. A UAE/GPF no longer results from displaying some dialog boxes on a 
  296. Cornerstone video system.
  297.  
  298. C Runtime errors no longer occur on Cornerstone Mono/dual page video 
  299. systems.
  300.  
  301. Ventura Publisher no works correctly with Genius full-page video systems.
  302.  
  303.  
  304. Word Processing Filters
  305. -----------------------
  306.  
  307. The error message "Can't find winaplps.wld" no longer appears 
  308. when selecting the Version button in the Help dialog box. 
  309.  
  310. A frame anchor appearing before attribute in Word for Windows format 
  311. files no longer cause changes in text attributes.
  312.  
  313. Attributes in Word for Windows 2.0 format text files are no longer 
  314. lost after editing the text in Ventura Publisher.
  315.  
  316. Attributes in text do not force a line break in the generated table 
  317. of contents text.
  318.  
  319. Selecting a range of text in a paragraph assigned a bold tag attribute, 
  320. and applying an underline attribute, will no longer cause the selected 
  321. text to change to medium weight (not bolded).
