  4. 1.The Woman at the Well.  John 4:1-42.
  5. Wisdom in soul winning!
  6. The natural (water) was used by Jesus as a basis to explain the
  7. spiritual (water).  This was His method of contact.
  8.  
  9. a.    Preparation. v. 1-6
  10.  
  11. Is He must needs go through Samaria." v. 4 - He loved other races.
  12. "Jesus, therefore, being wearied sat on the well." v. 6,.  He is
  13. human, subject to our feelings.
  14.  
  15. b.    Approach. v. 7-15.
  16.      He asked a favour.  "Give me to drink." v.7-8
  17.      He broke down racial barriers. v. 9
  18.      He aroused her curiosity and interest. vs 10-12
  19.      He contrasted natural water with spiritual water. v.13-14.
  20.      He created an intense desire. v. 15
  21.  
  22. c.    Conviction. v. 16-18.
  23.      He knew her heart and life.
  24.  
  25. d.    Illumination. v. 19-24.
  26.      She attempted to start a "religious argument". v. 19-20 The
  27.      Father seeks true worshippers.
  28.      In spirit. that is in the Holy Spirit.  1 Cor. 2:11-14.
  29.      In truth, that is in the Word, the Lord Jesus.  John 14:6

  31. e.    Revelation. v. 25-26.

  33.      "I ... am... the Christ."  Lit."I Am, who am speaking to
  34.      thee."cf.Ex.3:14.

  38.      "Come" and "see"!  He knows all about me.  He is the Christ.
  39.      (Note how she addressed Jesus.  A Jew. v. 9; Sir. v. 11, 15,
  40.      19a; a prophet v. 19b; the Christ. v. 25, 29.)

  44. The controlling motive and satisfaction in the life of the Lord
  45. Jesus was to do the will of the Father and to finish His work. v.34.
  46.  
  47. Many Samaritans believed on Him because of the woman's testimony.
  48. v.39 many more believed because the Lord Jesus tarried with them.
  49. v.40 "We know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the
  50. world." v.42 (Two days foreshadows the two thousand years from His
  51. first coming until his second coming. v.40).

  53. 2.The Healing of the Nobleman's Son.  John 4:43-54. The Nobleman's
  54. faith:-
  55. a.   He..heard..went... and besought (with humility). v. 47
  56. b.   Steadfast. v. 48-49.
  57. c.   Believed the word of Jesus.
  58. d.   Greater faith and faith multiplied in his own house. v. 53.
  59.      Faith in the spoken word of Jesus has power to heal.  
  60.      Ps. 107:20.
  61.      Jesus exhibited His power to heal at a distance.  Distance is
  62.      no barrier to His power.  What power there is in prayer
  63.      to-day!
  64. Note.   Nicodemus, an intellectual case; the Woman at the Well,
  65.      a moral case; the Nobleman's Son, a physical case.    Christ
  66.      met each need.
  67. The Eternal Lord gives Living water and Healing.
