  1. The  Gospel of John                                Lesson 1.

  3.      Introductory remarks.
  4.  
  5. The  Bible is the Revelation of God to man.
  6. Its  great theme is the Lord Jesus Christ and His redemption.
  7. The  Bible is divided into two great parts, (1) the Old Testament and
  8.                                             (2)  the New Testament. 
  9. The Bible is composed of 66 books, 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New 
  10. Testament.  The old Testament was written in Hebrew, the New Testament in 
  11. Greek.  The Bible was written by about forty men over a period of 1600 years, 
  12. (from Moses to the apostle John).  Among the writers were shepherds, kings, 
  13. rulers, fishermen, a tax collector, a doctor, etc. who lived in several
  14. countries under different environments.  "The New is in the old contained, 
  15. the Old is by the New explained."

  17. The Bible is the Written Word of God in a Book.
  18. Christ is the Living word of God made flesh.  John 1:14
  19. Let us not study the Bible to simply become wise as to its contents, but let 
  20. us study it to become better acquainted with its Author.
  21. May Philippians 3:10 be our goal,  "That I may know Him" ............ "

  25. The Gospel of John was written by the apostle John about 85 to 90 A.D. He
  26. also wrote 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John and Revelation.  John was close to Jesus,  
  27. He was one of the inner three.

  29. Matthew shows Jesus as King.  Luke shows Jesus as Man, Mark shows Jesus as
  30. Servant.  John shows Jesus as God.

  32. Note how Matthew, Mark and Luke tell more of the deeds of Christ while John
  33. especially gives the discourses of Jesus.
  34. There is much in the Gospel of John that is not found in the other three 
  35. Gospels.  About half of this Gospel is concerning the last week of Christ's 
  36. ministry, His death, and resurrection. (Chapters 12-21)
