Introduction
SERIES: MOSES' TABERNACLE. LESSON NO.1
WHAT IS MOSES' TABERNACLE?
The term "Tabernacle" means "tent" (Latin). Num.9:15 or
"dwelling place" Hebrew). From the beginning we read how God
walked with man, revealing His will, but without a place in
which to dwell until He declared, "let them make me a sanctuary,
that I may dwell among them". Ex.25:8; 29:45, 46. God desired to
reveal His nature and character more fully to His people - to
instruct man how He might draw nigh unto Himself and serve and
worship Him. God's purpose and desire has always been to
fellowship and dwell with His people. Rev.21:3; Ezek.37:26-28; 2
Cor.6:16-18; John 14:23.
WHY WE STUDY THE TABERNACLE.
1. Its Prominence in Scripture.
There are only 2 chapters for creation (man's dwelling
place), while 50 chapters are devoted to the Tabernacle.
(God's dwelling place). Ex.25-40; Lev.1- 27; Ex.13; Num:13;
2. Speaks of Jesus.
Luke 24:27 - "Beginning at Moses (Tabernacle, Law etc), and
all the prophets: He expounded unto them in all the
scriptures the things concerning Himself". John 1:14,4 5;
14:6; Isa. 7:14.
3 Speaks of the Church.
Acts 7:38 "Church in the wilderness".
Acts 7:44 "Tabernacle of witness".
Ex 27:21 "The Tabernacle of the Congregation" (133
times). (Hebrew "moed" means "a meeting place").1 Cor.3:16;
Eph.2:20-22.
4. Speaks of the Believer.
I Thess.5:23 Spirit - presence of God - Revelation.
Soul - Holy Place - Expression.
Body - outer court - Vessel to contain.
(i) presence of God (iii) light of God.
(ii) word of God (iv) praise & worship.
5. For our Admonition.
1 Cor. 10:11 - "Now all these things happened unto them
for examples: they are written for our admonition, upon
whom the ends of the world are come". Heb.10:1; 8:5; 1
Pet.1:9-12; Rom.15:4; Heb.9:9 (Amp.) Rom.1:20.
6. Foundation for the Book of Revelation.
The Book of Revelation is built upon the imagery of the
Tabernacle and its structure. Both Moses and John beheld
the same heavenly pattern (Heb 8:5). e.g. Brazen Altar -
Rev.6:9. The Laver - Rev.4:6. The Candlestick - Rev.l: 12.
Altar of Incense - Rev.8:3. Manna - Rev.2:17. The Ark -
Rev.15:5.
WHO RECEIVED THE PATTERN OF THE TABERNACLE?
The Bible tells us that Moses saw the Tabernacle on the Mountain.
Ex.25:40;26:30; Num.8:4; Acts 7:44. Moses was a man who had a
vision, and yet knew the preparation and dealings of God in his
life. He knew the ways of God while Israel only saw His acts
(Psa. 103:7). Moses desired to know God's way and to see His
glory. Ex. 33: 13-23.
WHO BUILT THE TABERNACLE?
Ex.31: 1-11 - "See I have called by name Bezaleel .... and I have
given with him Aholiab.......
1. (a) Bezaleel - means "in the shadow of God" or "God is
Protection". Psa.91: 1, tells us that to be under the
shadow of the almighty is to be in the secret place -
fellowship and intimate communion. He knew what it was
to be under covering - submission to authority, which
results in a divine and supernatural protection.
Isa.49:1-2. "in the shadow of His Hand hath He hid me"
the hand is always the place of God's dealings.
Job.19:21; Psa.95:4; 39:10.
(b) The Son of Uri - means "Enlightened" and "Splendour"
- only through the illumination of the Holy Spirit are
we going to see the splendour of the finished product
- vision. Eph. 1: 17-19.
(e) Of the Tribe of Judah - praise. Today God's temple is
being built in an atmosphere of praise.
2. Aholiab - means "Tabernacle of my Father" - Psa.84:1-2
- "how amiable (sweet attractive) are thy Tabernacles" - A
love for the presence of God. Of the Tribe of Dan - means
"judgments". Heb.5:13-14 - A mark of maturity. 1 Cor.2:15 -
"He that is spiritual judgeth all things". John 16:8.
HOW WAS THE TABERNACLE BUILT?
1. Ex.31:3 - "By the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in
understanding and in knowledge".
(a) The Spirit of God, John 14:26; 2 Cor.3:6; Heb.9:14;
Eph.2:22; 1 Pet.l:22.
(b) Wisdom, understanding and knowledge. Prov.9:l; 24:3-5;
18:4; 23:23; Isa.11:2; 33:6; Matt.15:1-10; Dan.2:20-22.
2. By surrender and sacrifice of material possessions.
Ex.26:2"speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring
Me an offering..... ". The Tabernacle was made of available
material. The source of that material was the people. When
Israel left Egypt, they carried with them the result of 400
years of "unsalaried" service. Ex. 12:35-36. But now God
called for sacrifice that they might experience His Presence
in their midst. The same thing happened after they reached
the land of Canaan. Josh.6:24; 8:27. They were forbidden
to touch any of the spoil from the first battle (Achan).
With the second battle, they could have it all.
HOW DID THEY GIVE.
With a willing heart. Ex.35:5,10,21,22; 2 Cor.9:6-7; Prov.11:25;
Isa.58:10.
