  1.                                 HIS CONSECRATION

  3.               SERIES       THE PRIEST,AND HIS GARMENTS.  LESSON 4.

  5.                           THE PURPOSE OF CONSECRATION.
  6.  
  7. To Hallow (set apart, purify) them, to minister unto me in the priests office,
  8. Ex. 29:1.
  9.  
  10. The ceremony of their consecration is typical of the consecration of the New
  11. Testament Priesthood.
  12.  
  13. THE CONSECRATION.  Ex.29:1-34, Ex.40:12-15, Lev.8. Ex.29.
  14.  
  15. 1 .  Seven days shalt thou consecrate them, v.35, Lev.8:33. Showing that
  16.      consecration doesn't come overnight but involves a definite process over
  17.      a period of time.
  18.  
  19.      7 is the Number of fullness and perfection showing that the Nation of
  20.      Priests will reach full perfection as a result of this process of
  21.      consecration.

  23. 2.   Brought to the Door, v.4.
  24.  
  25.      Jesus said "I am the Door".  The Priest to be brought to Him - this
  26.      speaks of a close relationship with Him, and a separation from everything
  27.      else.

  29. 3.   Wash them with water, v.4.
  30.  
  31.      Speaks of Water Baptism, the priest was washed by another in his initial
  32.      consecration, but hereafter he had to daily wash himself at Laver.  We
  33.      are baptised by another but then we must continually wash ourselves with
  34.      the washing of the water of the Word.

  36. 4.   Clothed, v.5,9.
  37.  
  38.      Just as the Priest had to be clothed properly so we must be clothed with
  39.      spiritual garments.  Note the list of spiritual garments the
  40.      Bible talks about.

  44.      1.   salvation, Isa.61:10.
  45.      2.   Robe of Righteousness, Isa.61.
  46.      3.   Praise, Isa.61:3.
  47.      4.   Cloak of Zeal, Isa.59:17
  48.      5.   Vengeance, Isa.59:17.
  49.      6.   Strength, Isa.52:1
  50.      7.   Love, Col.3:14.
  51.      8.   Humility, 1 Pet.5:5.
  52.      9.   Service, Ex.31:10.
  53.      10.  Heathen (missionary vision) Isa.49:18

  55. 5.   Anointed, v.7.

  57.      Just as the Priest had to have a special anointing, so the New Testament
  58.      priesthood (this subject covered in next lesson).

  60. THE OFFERINGS
  61.  
  62. 1.   A sin offering (a bullock) v,10-14.
  63.  
  64.      Jesus is our sin offering.  This speaks to us of the fact that the Priest
  65.      must have a thorough grounding, understanding and experience of the
  66.      finished work of Calvary, so that he may minister it effectively to
  67.      others.

  69. 2.   A burnt offering (a ram), v.15-18.
  70.  
  71.      Jesus is our burnt offering speaking of total surrender to the Father's
  72.      will.  Showing that the Priest must be grounded in the truth of complete
  73.      dedication and surrender to the Father's will in all things, that he may
  74.      minister this truth unto others and make disciples of all men.

  76. 3.   The ram of consecration v.19-28.
  77.  
  78.      This word "consecration" means "to fill the hands" in other words this
  79.      offering speaks of giving the Priest something to minister "to fill his
  80.      hands".

  82.      Note the ceremony -
  83.  
  84.      (a)  Blood on the right ear, thumb, and toe of the Priest, v.20.
  85.           This speaks of the blood cleansing our hearing, service and walk.
  86.           Blood on the ear - speaks of love-slave relationship as it was the
  87.           right ear of the slave that was pierced.
  88.  
  89.      (b)  Take all the inward parts of the ram - which is the breast and the
  90.           right shoulder, v.22. and bread v.23.
  91.  
  92.           The breast speaks of - heart ministry of love etc.
  93.           The shoulder speaks of - responsibility and burden bearing.
  94.           The bread speaks of - the truths of the word etc.
  95.  
  96.      (c)  Take the breast and wave it. v.26.
  97.           Take the shoulder and heave it. v.27
  98.  
  99.           To wave is horizontal while to heave is up and down thus forming a
  100.           cross.

  102.           This shows the Priest is to minister of the breast and shoulder
  103.           from the centre of the Cross.  His life is to be in the finished
  104.           work of the Cross.

  106.      (d)  Eat the flesh of the ram (the shoulder and breast) and the bread
  107.           v.32-33.
  108.  
  109.           Be partakers of His consecration, and all that the shoulder and
  110.           breast and bread speak of.  Let these things become a part of you,
  111.           then you will have something to minister.
