  4.                  SERIES THE PRIEST AND HIS GARMENTS.  LESSON 5.

  6.                            SPICES FOR ANOINTING OIL.
  7.  
  8. Typical of the various works of the Holy Spirit in the believer's life, and
  9. speaks of the deepening work of the Holy Spirit.
  10.  
  11. 1.   This oil was used for the Anointing of the Priests, Ex.29:7 and for the
  12.      anointing of the Tabernacle itself, Ark, Table and all its vessels,
  13.      Candlestick and its vessels, Altar of Incense, Brazen Altar with all its
  14.      vessels, Laver, Ex.30:26-28, 40:9-15.

  16. 2.   The purpose for this anointing was to sanctify the Priest that they may
  17.      be most Holy. Ex.30:29. There is a sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit
  18.      needed in the church to make her presentable as a Bride for Jesus.
  19.  
  20. 3.   There were 5 ingredients that made up this Anointing Oil and each
  21.      ingredient represents a certain work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of
  22.      God's Holy Priesthood of which His church is.
  23.  
  24.      (a)   Pure Myrrh, (b) Sweet Cinnamon (c) Sweet Calamus (d) Cassia
  25.      (e)   Olive Oil.
  26.  
  27.      (A)  Pure Myrrh.  Type of suffering.  This speaks of the Holy Spirit
  28.           leading us through bitter experiences to deepen us and make us more
  29.           fragrant and perfect.
  30.  
  31.           (i)       Myrrh is a gum from a thorny foliage.  It is a healing
  32.                     stimulant.  It is very bitter yet fragrant.
  33.  
  34.           (ii)      Speaks of suffering (bitter experiences which the Holy
  35.                     Spirit, leads us into and through to perfect us that
  36.                     our life may become fragrant).  The Holy Spirit also
  37.                     comforts and heals after a bitter experience even as
  38.                     myrrh is a healing stimulant.
  39.  
  40.           (iii)     Just as Myrrh is only one ingredient of the anointing
  41.                     oil, so this is only one of the works of the Holy
  42.                     Spirit to lead us through suffering.
  43.  
  44.           (iv)      Oil of Myrrh used to prepare Esther to be presented as
  45.                     Queen to the King.  Est.2:12, so the Holy Spirit pre-
  46.                     pares the Church to become the bride of the King by
  47.                     using Myrrh (suffering).  Christ learnt obedience by
  48.                     the things which He suffered.
  49.  
  50.           (v)       Three gifts brought to the babe Christ.  Gold
  51.                     (prophetical of Jesus revealing the Righteousness,
  52.                     Deity, Purity of God to this world in His earthly
  53.                     ministry).
  54.                     Frankincense (prophetical of Christ's prayer life, His
  55.                     constant touch and communion with His Father). Myrrh
  56.                     (prophetical of His suffering that He would experience
  57.                     at the end of His ministry.  Matt.2:11).

  59.      (B)  Sweet Cinnamon.  Used to entice, allure, attract, this is a type of
  60.           the Holy Spirit's work of enticing, alluring, attracting men and
  61.           women to Jesus through us.
  62.  
  63.           (i)       Comes from the inner bark of a tree and has a sweet
  64.                     fragrance.
  65.  
  66.           (ii)      Not much is said in the scripture about Cinnamon, but
  67.                     in Prov. 7:17, the Devil uses Cinnamon as a counterfeit
  68.                     of the genuine.  A harlot perfuming her bed with
  69.                     Cinnamon to allure and entice the passer-by for the
  70.                     purpose of making love.
  71.  
  72.           (iii)     The purpose of the sweet attractiveness of the Holy
  73.                     Spirit is to allure men and women to Christ that they
  74.                     may make love to Him. (Salvation)
  75.  
  76.           (iv)      Sweet Cinnamon also speaks of the Holy Spirit leading
  77.                     us into the secret place or intimate communion and
  78.                     fellowship with Christ.
  79.  
  80.           (v)       Song of Sol.4:12-14 is a type of Christ and His Church.
  81.                     Here Christ adores His bride and says of her she is a
  82.                     garden enclosed Cinnamon was in the garden - and speaks
  83.                     of that which made her alluring and attractive,
  84.                     fragrant to her beloved (Christ).

  86. (c)  Sweet Calamus. (Reed).  Type of the Holy Spirit's work of measuring
  87.      the believer and bringing him up to the standard of Christ.
  88.  
  89.      (i)       A fragrant reed or cane whose roots are highly prized as a
  90.                spice.  Used for medicine for stomach disorder.
  91.  
  92.      (ii)      Calamus is the same word for Reed in Rev.11:1, the measuring
  93.                reed or rod to measure the Temple.  Here we see that one of
  94.                the works of the Holy Spirit is to measure us and bring us up
  95.                to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.  The
  96.                Holy Spirit will do this through the 5 ministries as well as
  97.                convicting us of our short-comings in our daily walk as we
  98.                allow Him to.
  99.  
  100. (D)  Cassia.  Type of the Holy Spirit's work of liberating and breaking every
  101.      yoke.
  102.  
  103.      (i)       Cassia is a similar ingredient to the sweet Cinnamon.  Pulp
  104.                made from the pods of the Cassia - Laxative in medicine.
  105.  
  106.      (ii)      The Kings (Christ's) garments smell of ... Cassia ... a sweet
  107.                fragrance.  Also likened to the spiritual significance of
  108.                Sweet Cinnamon showing that Christ is alluring and attractive
  109.                to the Church.
  110.  
  111.      (iii)     A laxative medicine - speaks of the power of the Holy Ghost
  112.                to set free - loosen, liberate from all bondage.  The
  113.                anointing shall break the yoke.
  114.  
  115. (E)  Olive Oil.  Type of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.  The experience
  116.      of Joy, Life, Liberty, Enthusiasm.
  117.  
  118.      (i)       Was used for the light and daily sacrifices, Ex.27:20,
  119.                Lev.24:2.
  120.  
  121.      (ii)      Here we have 4 ingredients added to this one.  The 4
  122.                ingredients are likened to the hidden work of the Holy Spirit
  123.                in the believers life, to sanctity and make him Holy and
  124.                separated unto the Lord.  The Olive Oil has to do with light
  125.                - that which can be seen .... outward manifestation of the
