File: INCVAR.DOC Version 1.00 1992.06.14 Sunday
1993.11.27
Used to increment an environment variable. The number of characters in the
variable is invariant - you start with one and there is not increase to two.
Up to 150 characters is allowed. A series over time may be:
5,6,7,8,9,0,1 for a single number, ax,ay,az,ba, etc for a length
of 2 characters, or 69y, 69z, 70a for 3 characters, etc.
INCVAR reads the environment variable "INCVAR" and increments it. Numbers,
lower case and upper case can be mixed. It writes a file INCVARGC.BAT
which may be CALLed to set the new value in the environment. A default of
"aa" is provided if the variable doesn't exist initially. Because
setting the incremented variable is done in a batch file, operation may be
made conditional.
This program may be used to make progressive backups of source codes during
the compiling process. See the following batch file fragment:
rem CM.BAT
m:

call incvargc
copy %1.mod %1.%incvar%
etc etc

Additional note: 1993.01.10 Sunday
Graham Paul (MPCUG) was interested in creating multiple files of the same sort.
INCVAR may be used in a manner similar to this:
