  35. in the United States.  Chicago, in the

  43. book, The Family  Doctor, published in 
  44. 1869,  lists  garlic  as a "Stimulant, 
  45. diuretic, expectorant, deobstructant," 
  46. and  recommends  its  use  in  chronic 
  47. catarrh,   humoral   asthma,    worms, 
  48. epilepsy and  dropsy.  (Dawson, 1980.)
