Title: Wyse 370 Definition
Product: WordPerfect 5.0/5.1 for UNIX
Number: 1212-10/93
Six new Wyse 370 definitions are now available. There are two
separate definitions for each of the three keyboards. The last
three letters of the definition name indicate the type of
keyboard:
∙ epc - Enhanced PC style keyboard with 12 function keys
∙ asc - Ascii style keyboard with 16 function keys
∙ ans - Ansi style keyboard with 20 function keys
Graphics
No new graphic options have been created. Only Line Draw and
Text are currently available with these drivers.
Because of the different way WordPerfect addresses the color
capabilities of this terminal, there are two separate definitions
for each of these keyboards. The differences for each are
outlined below.
Color Manipulation Capabilities
The Wyse definitions now give the ability to manipulate color
from within WordPerfect Setup. (Definitions by these names were
shipped on previous releases; however, those definitions did not
allow you to manipulate the colors.) Here are the new definition
names and their revision numbers:
wyse370epc Revision 00005
wyse370asc Revision 00000 (first ASCII definition)
wyse370ans Revision 00005
Please check the revision number found in Screen, Terminal Help
to determine if color manipulating capabilities are available.
Foreground Colors
Eight foreground and background colors are available with this
new set of drivers. The foreground colors may be easily
manipulated for different attributes within the WordPerfect
Setup, Display, Fonts & Attributes Screen. The background color
must be set in two places so that it will display properly: in
the Initialization String within the definition through the
Wpterm program; and in WordPerfect Setup, Display, Fonts &
Attributes. This process is much more complicated, but it can be
done.
Background Colors
The background is set to black on the drivers that are shipped.
If you wish to use a colored background, your TRS should be
modified to set the desired color. Any background color change
will affect everyone on the system using this WPTERM variable.
If you need to make changes for only one user, a unique name (for
example, john.trs) should be given to a copy of the original TRS.
This TRS could then be modified as outlined in the steps below.
The user's WPTERM variable should be set to this unique name.
1 Enter Wpterm. Edit the desired "wyse" definition (it is
suggested that you make a copy of the original .TRS file and
give this copy a unique name).
2 Choose 4 for Terminal Control Strings; then choose 1 to Edit
the String to Initialize the Terminal Sequence.
3 Use Cursor Right Key to locate the background color sequence
[27][49;1w. Substitute the 1 in the sequence with the
desired color number from the following table. For
example, if you want the background color to be Blue, this
sequence would read [27][49;4w.
Color Table
1 Black
4 Blue
13 Green
16 Cyan
49 Red
51 Magenta
64 White
4 Press Enter to accept the modifications to the sequence.
5 Follow the same procedure to modify the String for Quick
Terminal Initialization.
6 Exit Wpterm. Save your changes and overwrite the
definition.
7 If the WPTERM variable name is different than the name of
the .TRS file, change the WPTERM variable name.
8 Enter WordPerfect.
9 Select Setup, Display, Fonts and Attributes, and set the BG
(background) color to the same color you selected in the TRS
for all the font and attribute combinations that are
currently set to Black.
Additional Color Options
In addition to the eight color options listed above, other color
options are listed in the WYSE 370 programmers manual. However,
these colors cannot be matched within WordPerfect Setup.
Therefore, text background color will differ from screen
background color if other options are used. If you desire to use
the other colored backgrounds, you should try the WPCorp "wy"
definitions.
The "wy" definitions (i.e., wy37epc, wy370asc, wy370ans --
Revision 00000) do not give you the ability to manipulate color
from within WordPerfect. Rather, all of the desired colors for
background, foreground, and attributes may be set up in hardware
terminal setup screens.
These screens give you up to 64 different colors to choose from.
WordPerfect does nothing to modify these colors, but it allows
the colors to be used as set at the hardware level. Desired
colors for background, foreground, bold, underline, and so on,
may be set within the hardware setup menus.
These "wy" drivers would be less complicated if very specific
color shades are desired, or if you want to match WordPerfect to
other applications. This would also be ideal for a site where
multiple users want different background colors.
Hardware setup screens should be modified (not the WordPerfect
Setup screens) if Underline, Bold, or other font changes are not
displayed. If these attributes are still not displaying
correctly, enter WordPerfect with a -i option to temporarily
ignore the SET file. This should be set back to default
manually. Or, you can enter WordPerfect with a -x option, which
will delete current SET files.
** Caution ** This will remove all changes made to personal
setup screens, including the paths to auxiliary files.
New BIN File
WordPerfect Corporation has also created a new .bin file for the
Wyse 370 definitions. This
.bin file downloads Double Line Draw and other necessary
characters to the terminal, and it will solve problems such as
double line draw not matching up on the terminal.
You can obtain a copy of these definitions through UNIX Orders or
UNIX Support. Prices are $5.00 for each diskette or $15.00 for
each tape, plus shipping. The six new definitions will be sent
along with the wyse370.bin file. These definitions will be
available on any release date 08/15/91 or later.
These definitions are also available through CompuServe, FTP,
Internet, or through the UNIX BBS system free of charge.
