  12. You want to set up labels in WordPerfect 5.1 for a dot matrix
  13. printer.

  16. Concept
  17. Using the Paper Size/Type feature of WordPerfect, you can set up
  18. labels of varying sizes.
  19.  
  20. The 05/31/91 interim release of WordPerfect 5.1 includes a macro
  21. called LABELS.WPM.  This macro automates label formatting and
  22. simplifies many of the steps presented in this document.  Refer
  23. to InfoShare document #1222 for instructions on using the labels
  24. macro.

  27. Solution
  28. Set up a Paper Size/Type that will fit your particular labels.
  29.  
  30. 1        Press Format (Shift+F8), then choose Page (2).
  31.  
  32. 2        Choose Paper Size (7).
  33.  
  34. For this example, we will create a new label paper size.
  35.  
  36. 3        Choose Add (Create) (2), then choose Other (9).
  37.  
  38. 4        Type a descriptive name for your labels, then press
  39.          Enter.
  40.  
  41. 5        Choose Paper Size (1), then choose Other (o).
  42.  
  43. 6        At the Width prompt, type the width of the label.  At
  44.          the Height prompt, type the measurement from the top of
  45.          the first label to the top of the second label (this
  46.          includes any space between the labels).
  47.  
  48. 7        Choose Location (5).  Determine whether your labels will
  49.          be fed into the printer continuously, through a paper
  50.          bin, or manually.  Choose the proper location.
  51.  
  52. 8        Choose Prompt to Load (4). If you choose Yes, then you
  53.          will be prompted to load a new label each time you send
  54.          a new print job to the printer.  If you choose No, it
  55.          will automatically be sent from WordPerfect.

  57. 9        Choose Labels (8), then type Y to go to the Format:
  58.          Labels screen.
  59.  
  60. 10       Choose Label Margins (5).
  61.  
  62. You are now in the Format: Labels screen.  You can set any
  63. margins you want.  The text will be printed on each label
  64. according to the margins that you set.
  65.  
  66. 11       Enter the desired Left, Right, Top, and Bottom label
  67.          margins, pressing Enter after each selection.

  69. All of the other settings in this screen will be set to a default
  70. according to the paper size you specified.  You may change these
  71. if you wish, but it is not necessary.

  73. 12       Press Exit (F7).
  74.  
  75. If you set any of the four label margins to zero or any number
  76. smaller than the default margin determined by your printer, the
  77. error message Label margins increased due to printer's minimum
  78. margins will appear.  Each printer has a physical limitation on
  79. how close to each edge it can print.  Your printer will
  80. automatically set your labels to the smallest default setting.
  81.  
  82. You may also see the error message Labels will not fit on paper
  83. size, which indicates that any of the measurements you have
  84. entered are too large for the specified paper size.  You will
  85. need to remeasure your labels and alter the measurements.  The
  86. measurement standards for the Paper Size/Type feature are as
  87. follows:

  89. WordPerfect uses a specific equation to see if the labels will
  90. fit.  It multiplies the Height by the Number of Rows, then adds
  91. the Top Left Corner: Top measurement and the Distance Between
  92. Rows to that total.  The final total cannot be larger than the
  93. Height of your paper size; in our example, this is 11 inches.  It
  94. then multiplies the Width by the Number of Columns, then adds the
  95. Top Left Corner: Left measurement and the Distance Between
  96. Columns to that total.  The final total of this equation cannot
  97. be larger than the Width of your paper size; in our example, this
  98. is 8 1/2 inches.

  100. 13       If you got the Labels will not fit on paper size error
  101.          message, make any necessary corrections to the Format:
  102.          Edit Paper Definition screen, then press Exit (F7).  If
  103.          you got the  Label margins increased due to printer's
  104.          minimum margins error message, just press Exit (F7).

  106. 14       Press Exit (F7) until you return to the Format: Paper
  107.          Size/Type screen.

  109. 15       Make sure that the label size you have just created is
  110.          highlighted, then choose Select (1).
  111.  
  112. 16       Press Exit (F7) to return to the document editing
  113.          screen.
