Title: I-Class Installation Instructions
Product: WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS
Number: 1122-10/93
Introduction
This document has been written to provide a guideline for
installing WordPerfect 5.1 on a Novell Network where IBM's I-
Class menuing system is being used. Although the steps outlined
in this document do not represent the only way in which
WordPerfect can be installed in this environment, these steps
will provide a simple installation while creating an efficient
environment in which WordPerfect can operate. This document
explains the purpose and function of the master setup file and a
personal setup file. It also covers the function and use of the
printer resource file (.PRS) as well as the environment file
(.ENV). While it is comprehensive, it assumes that those
installing WordPerfect 5.1 are familiar with DOS, Novell and I-
Class.

WordPerfect 5.1 & Networks WordPerfect 5.1 is network ready,
meaning that the program has been written to accommodate multiple
users, provided the program is run on a supported Network
Operating System (NOS). In the network environment it is
important to retain user individuality. The fact that they are
running the program from a network should be as transparent as
possible. In order to maintain this transparency, WordPerfect
allows each user to create several files that assist in the
manipulation of documents on screen and to customize program
options to meet their needs.
This customizing may be characterized by changing initial codes,
margins, tab settings or screen display options and the selection
of a printer. This information is written to what is called a
SET file. A unique SET file is created when the user is prompted
to enter the three-character user identification string when they
execute WordPerfect. This SET file is created in the directory
that is specified in the ENVIRONMENT file, which is found in the
program directory (WP{WP}.ENV). This file also identifies the
network type. It is very important that the SET file be created
for each user on the network. The absence of these SET files can
cause unnecessary problems with WordPerfect.
When running WordPerfect in the network environment, it is also
important that the program file be given a Shareable Read Only
attribute and that the users have READ (Open and Search -Novell
v2.12, 2.15 or Filescan - Novell v3.x) rights to the actual
program directory.
WordPerfect & I-Class
I-Class provides a comprehensive menu systems as well as bullet-
proof security. There are several ways to implement WordPerfect
in a classroom environment using I-Class. The steps outlined on
the following pages will install WordPerfect 5.1 using master
setup file and personal setup files. If these steps are
followed, WordPerfect 5.1 will be installed in an environment
that is similar to a network where I-Class is not present. This
document will also provide a common point of reference for both
end user and customer support operator.
Installation
These steps will install WordPerfect on a Novell network where I-
Class is present. They include the use of .SET files.
1 From the IBM I-Class Startup Menu, press Enter. Type SYSOP
and press Enter to log in as the Supervisor. Exit to DOS by
holding down the Alt key and pressing the following keys in
sequence: E S C. Do a MAP to see what drives are currently
mapped.
2 Change to the drive letter that the COURSES directory is
mapped to. Throughout this document, we will refer to that
drive using a ?, since it will vary from system to system.
3 Create the main WordPerfect directory:
∙ for WordPerfect 5.1 type: md WP51 and press Enter.
∙ for WordPerfect 6.0 type: md WP60 and press Enter.
4 Create the LEARN subdirectory. For example: type cd\WP51
and press Enter, then type md LEARN and press Enter. (This
step is not needed for WordPerfect 6.0 installations.)
5 Create the SETUP subdirectory by typing md SETUP and
pressing Enter.
6 Change back to the ?:\COURSES directory by typing CD.. and
pressing Enter.
7 Type G and press Enter to return to the SYSOP menu.
8 The SYSTEM OPERATOR MAIN MENU screen will be displayed.
9 Locate the Netware Option on the right side of the menu.
10 Move to the Netware Option section of the screen, highlight
the Netware Utilities Menu, and press Enter. You will now
be able to execute SYSCON programs.
11 Select System Configuration and press Enter. This is
SYSCON.
12 Select Supervisor Options by pressing "S" and pressing
Enter.
13 Select System Login Script and press Enter.
14 If you are installing WordPerfect 5.1, add two search drives
to the System Login Script. Add just one for WordPerfect
6.0.
MAP S16:=MAIN/SYS:COURSES\WP51
MAP S16:=MAIN/SYS:COURSES\WP51
The first mapped drive will be used when invoking
WordPerfect from the users' home directory. Also, when the
Tutorial is run, the first drive is remapped to the
\COURSES\WP51\LEARN directory as a result of the Server
Directory information necessary to run the tutorial. If you
are installing WordPerfect 6.0, you will only need one
search drive because the tutorial is executed within
WordPerfect.
15 Press the Escape key. Save your changes, then press Escape
again to return to the main SYSCON screen.
16 Select Group Information and press Enter.
17 Select Everyone and press Enter.
18 Select Trustee Assignments press Enter.
19 The Network Administrator must now grant the following
rights in the following directories to EVERYONE.
WP51
Read, (Open,Search for v 2.1x, Filescan for v2.2 and v3.x)
grant all to yourself (Your LOGIN name).
WP51\LEARN
All but (Parental for v2.1x, Access for v2.2 and 3.x)
WP51\SETUP
Same as \LEARN
See the Command Line Utilities Manual for steps on granting
Trustee Directory Assignments.
20 Return to the I-Class System Operator Main Menu by pressing
the Escape key and answering YES to exit the various menus.
21 Shell out of the System Operator Main Menu by holding down
the Alt key and pressing the following keys in sequence: E S
C.
22 Check the CONFIG.SYS on the boot disk (either the hard drive
or the floppy) to make sure that there are enough files and
buffers to run WordPerfect. It may be necessary to add one
of the following lines to the CONFIG.SYS to increase the
environment.
For a HD add:
SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM /P E:512
For a FD add:
SHELL=A:\COMMAND.COM /P /E: 512
23 Reboot the PC to reset the Environment and re-map the new
drive for WP51.
24 When the main IBM screen is displayed, press Enter.
25 Login in as yourself, using your login name. For example,
type TEACHER and press Enter.
26 Shell out of the Teachers Menu by holding down the Alt key
and pressing the following keys in sequence: E S C.
27 To find out what search drive Novell has assigned to the
\COURSES\WP51 directory, type MAP and press Enter. It is
probable that drive W: has been assigned to this directory.
28 Change to the \WP51 directory. For example, you would type
W: and press Enter if W: is the drive that has been
assigned.
29 The Prompt should display the directory. For example, if
drive W: is the assigned drive, it would read W:\
COURSES\WP51.
30 Since the teachers and students are more likely to have
their A: drive remapped to the network, you must restore the
mapping of the A: drive to a local drive. To do this, type
MAP DEL A: and press Enter.
31 Install WordPerfect:
A Place the Install/Util Disk 1 into the disk drive.
Change to the A: drive by typing A: and pressing Enter.

E Press the Enter key twice to confirm that you are
installing from the A: drive. You will see the arrow
move to option 2.
F Press Enter to change the destination of the
installation. (This directory structure is an example.
Other directory structures may be used to suit the
needs of the class.)
G Press Enter and change the path to the path that was
created for WordPerfect: for example, w:\courses\wp51.
Press Enter. You will see all of the directory
specifications change to the path that was entered.
H The arrow will appear next to option #3. Press Enter
to begin installing the program.

a moment, you will be prompted to insert Disk 2.
Remove Disk 1 from drive A: and insert Disk 2.
Press Enter.
l. Answer YES to install the Small .DRS File.
m. Answer YES to install the Graphic Images.
n. You will then be asked to verify the CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Press Enter to check
these system files. If there are any changes
necessary for the CONFIG.SYS, the program will
suggest them to you and ask you to Press any key
to continue. Press Enter. Remove the diskette
from the drive. The installation program will
then ask you if you would like to add the
WordPerfect directory to the path. This is
optional. If you choose YES, the program will
modify the path statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. If you choose NO, the program will not
make any changes to the batch file. It will then
return you to the main installation screen.
o. You will be asked to check the environment file.
This is very important. To do so, press Enter. If
the environment file does not exist, you will be
prompted to create one. Answer YES to create the
environment file. A list of network types will be
displayed. Choose 1 for Novell. You will be
asked to specify a directory for the user SET
files to be created in. Enter
W:\COURSES\WP51\SETUP for the path statement; then
press Enter. (Remember, this is an example, and
your actual directory structure may vary.)
p. You will then have an option to select a printer.
Press Enter to make your selection. Insert
Printer Disk 1 as prompted, then press Enter. A
list of printers will appear. A number is listed
to the left of the printer name to assist in the
selection process. If you see your printer on the
list enter the number; if your printer does not
appear on the initial screen, press the Page Down
key to view additional printers (they are listed
alphabetically). Once you have entered your
choice you will be asked to confirm the selection
by answering YES or NO. If the selection is
correct, press Y for Yes. If necessary you will
be prompted to insert other printer diskettes in
order to install the correct printer files. After
the first printer is selected you are given the
option to select an additional printer. If you
choose to do so, the procedure is repeated. If
you choose not to install any additional printers
they can be added later if necessary.
q. When you answer NO to select any additional
printers, WordPerfect will automatically select
the printer for you. The Printer Helps and Hints
screen will appear; press Enter to continue. This
completes the actual installation process.
32 To customize WordPerfect, you must execute the program and
create the master .SET file. To create the .SET file you
must execute WordPerfect using the following startup option:
WP/u-{wp. The {wp creates a template referred to as the
master setup file. The master setup file (WP{WP}.SET is the
setup file that all users' personal setup files will be
based on. If the SETUP needs any changes such as location
of auxiliary files, initial codes, keyboards, selection of a
mouse, or backup options, they need to be done now. The
following changes to the Location of Auxiliary Files are
suggested:
These path specifications are examples; actual drive letters
and directory structures may vary.
For Macros, Speller/Thesaurus, and Printer files:
U:\COURSES\WP51
For Graphics files: U:\COURSES\WP51\GRAPHICS
This will allow the users to create documents and
supplemental dictionaries in the FILES subdirectory. When
you are finished, pressing the Exit (F7) key will allow you
to return to the main document editing screen.
33 Verify that the printers are selected properly.
WordPerfect does not issue Novell printer commands, nor does
it override any environment variable corresponding to
printing. WordPerfect can print to a network printer either
by printing directly to the device or printing to a captured
or spooled local device. In either case, the information
that is sent is identical.
Printing Directly to a Queue
This means that the port selection in WordPerfect is the
actual name of the Novell Queue e.g. (PRINTQ_0 or PRINTQ_1).
It is also possible to print to a LANSPOOL queue in the same
manner. (For the port selection we specify the name of the
LANSPOOL device that Novell recognizes as the queue attached
to the LANSPOOL print server such as LS_PRT_Q1.) The
information that appears on the banner, if one is requested,
is the user's three-character ID that they entered when they
executed WordPerfect. This method of printer selection does
not inhibit a user from selecting another printer and
printing to it at any time during a session of WordPerfect.
No Novell printer commands are issued by WordPerfect.
Printing to a Captured or Spooled Local Device
This means that a spool or capture command has been issued.
This command redirects output from a local device (LPT1, for
example) to a network queue. The capture and spool command
can be called in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or the Login Script.
These commands are flexible and can be modified at the DOS
level.
Modifying the Port Selection so the User Can Print directly
to the QUEUE
A From the main document editing screen, selectPrint
(Shift+F7).
B Choose Select (S) to see the Select Printer screen.
The printers that you selected during the installation
process should be listed in the top left corner.
C Highlight the printer definition you wish toedit and
choose Edit (3). The nextscreen shows the details of
the printer, suchas name, port selection, and sheet
feederdefinition.
D Choose Modify (2) to change the port selection. A list
of possible selections will be displayed along the
bottom of the screen.
E Choose Other (8). You will be promptedfor a device or
filename. Enter the name ofthe Novell or LANSPOOL
queue that the networkprinter is attached to (such as
PRINTQ_0).
F Type in the name of the device and pressEnter. You
will be asked if this is anetwork printer. Type Y for
Yes.
G You will be asked whether you want to Suppress Top of
Form on Last Page of Document: YES or NO. If you
answer Yes, WordPerfect does not send the value for
Form Feed found in the .PRS file. This is important to
know because the value in the .PRS file is not the same
from printer to printer. If you answer No, WordPerfect
will ask for a Form Feed to be sent at the end of the
print job. It is necessary to answer No for dot matrix
and postscript printers. After you have answered this
question, the port selection will change accordingly
and you will then have the flexibility to customize any
of the other options listed here.
H Press Exit (F7) three times to returnto the main
document editing screen.
Modifying the Port Selection so the User Can Print to a
Captured Local Device
A While in the main document editing screen, press Print
(Shift+F7). The PrintOptions screen will be displayed.
B Choose Select (S) to see the Select Printer screen.
The printers that you selected during the installation
process should be listed in the top left corner.
C Highlight the printer definition you wish to edit and
press Edit (3). The next screen shows details for your
printer, such as name, port selection, and sheet feeder
definition.
D Choose Modify (2) to change the port selection. A list
of possible selections will be displayed along the
bottom of the screen. Choose the appropriate device
that corresponds with the device that has been spooled
or captured at the network level. You will not be
asked to "suppress the top of form on last page"
because this port selection is the same selection one
might use to print to a local printer. In this case,
once the print job leaves WordPerfect it is subject to
the variables set in the capture or spool
statement. After you have made your choice the selection
will change accordingly and you have the flexibility to
customize any of the other options listed here as well.
E Press Exit (F7) three times to return to the main
document editing screen.
34 Press Exit (F7), then N for No and Y for Yes to exit out of
WordPerfect. The prompt will be the correct one for the
directory that you have created and mapped; for our example,
it is U:\COURSES\WP51.
Using the Flag command, the attributes of the following
program files must be changed to Shareable Read Only: *.EXE,
*.CRS, *.DRS, *.PRS, *.VRS, *.FRS, *.FIL, *.MRS, *.THS,
*.WPK. To make these changes, type FLAG *.EXE SRO at the
DOS prompt and press Enter. Repeat this command until the
entire group of files has been changed.
NOTE: Any changes made to the printers after the .PRS
(printer resource files) are changed to READ ONLY will not
be permanent. In order to modify a printer option
permanently, the file must first be re-flagged Shareable
Read Write. To prevent accidental erasure or modification,
it is then flagged back Shareable Read Only.
35 Create the .ITM file. The .ITM file is used to set up the
startup options for an application from within I- Class.
The .ITM file necessary to run WordPerfect is a simple one.
It can be created through Iclas under the installation
option. For further information, consult the I-Class
manual. The program start instructions are H:^wp.exe^%V%G.
The H: will default the user to his or her personal
directory. Since a Search Drive was created for
\COURSES\WP51, the network will search for WP.EXE, execute
WordPerfect, and default the temporary files in the users'
personal directories where they have all rights.
Overview
Unique User ID
Unique user IDs were implemented in order for WordPerfect to run
optimally in the network environment. The WordPerfect users are
able to customize the program to suit their preferences while
still conforming to the prescribed set of defaults determined by
the network administrator, so user IDs can be extremely helpful
in an educational setting. The user IDs are used to identify
.SET and TEMPORARY files. User IDs can be assigned in the
environment via the AUTOEXEC.BAT and Login Script or assigned
manually when running the program. Flexibility is the key to
unique user IDs.
Setup Files
The personal setup file's main purpose is to store the user's
default program information. Setup files can be help students
and teachers alike to gain confidence in WordPerfect, primarily
because they know that when they sit down at their PC and enter
WordPerfect with their unique user initials, all of their
customized options will still be there. While conservation of
disk space may be a primary concern, the average size of a .SET
file is small. There is no limit to the number of .SET files
WordPerfect can recognize.
Temporary Files
When a student or teacher executes WordPerfect, several temporary
files are created in their behalf. These files are necessary for
document manipulation features such as Print, Spell Check, and
Save. They are called temporary files because they are deleted
when the user exits WordPerfect properly, provided the user has
delete rights in the directory where they were created.
{WP
This user ID allows the person using it to modify the Master
Setup file. The Master Setup file is the template .SET file from
which all new .SET files are created. All default changes, such
as printer and initial codes, are made here as well.
NWPSETUP.EXE
This utility allows the network administrator to make global
changes to all user personal setup files. It is intended to help
standardize the network user options. If the network
administrator wants to make global changes to all the SET files,
he or she must first modify the Master Setup file and then run
NWPSETUP in the Setup directory to pass these changes on. For
more information regarding the NWPSETUP.EXE, consult the
WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS reference manual.
