  10. When you try to start WordPerfect the message Are other copies of
  11. WordPerfect currently running? is displayed on your screen and
  12. WordPerfect does not start.
  13.  
  14. Concept
  15. WordPerfect creates temporary files each time the program is
  16. started, and the temporary files are deleted each time the
  17. program is properly exited.  However, if a power failure,
  18. computer lockup, or improper exit occurs (such as turning off the
  19. computer before exiting WordPerfect), the temporary files will
  20. still exist the next time you start WordPerfect.

  22. Timed Document Backup creates temporary files which are deleted
  23. when you properly exit WordPerfect.  If the computer is turned
  24. off before you press Exit (F7), the temporary files remain in
  25. your WordPerfect directory.  The next time you start WordPerfect,
  26. the message Are other copies of WordPerfect currently running?
  27. displays.  If you choose Yes at this prompt, you must specify the
  28. directory where the new temporary files can be created.  You are
  29. then given the choice to Rename or Delete the existing backup
  30. files.  If you select Rename, you must enter a new name for the
  31. backup file, and WordPerfect will then prop erly back up the file
  32. currently on the screen.  You must rename the file if you want to
  33. retrieve it.  If you don't give it a new name, the file is
  34. deleted.  If you select Delete, WordPerfect will still properly
  35. back up the file currently on the screen, but the old backup
  36. files will be erased.

  39. Answering No to the prompt will take you directly to WordPerfect,
  40. but the temporary backup files will be automatically deleted.

  42. Solution
  43. You need to turn Timed Document Backup on.  If it is not turned
  44. on, your work will not be saved if there is a power failure.
  45.  
  46. 1    Press Setup (Shift+F1), then choose Environment (3), Backup
  47.      Options (1), and Timed Document Backup (1).

  49. 2    Choose Yes to turn on Timed Document Backup, then enter the
  50.      desired Minutes Between Backups.
  51.  
  52. 3    Press Exit (F7) to return to your document screen.
