Custom Computers ENVELOPE LaserPrint Program for Panasonic KX-P4410/20/30
SHAREWARE version 2.2 by Dave Culbertson (C)1993 - ALL Rights Reserved
This program is SHAREWARE which simply means that you get to try out the
program (without paying anything for it in advance except for a duplication
fee), and then it you like it and find it to be of use to you, you are
expected to make payment to CUSTOM COMPUTERS INC, 232 Exchange Street,
Chicopee, MA 01013-1678 U.S.A. in US Dollars. The Fee for continued use of
this program is $25.00 and if you register and pay the fee, you will get
the latest version of this program in return as well as the ability to have
your NAME and Return Address Printed on the Envelope. You also MAY request
some viable change to the program, and if this change is possible we will
at our option provide you with your request. Now since this is SHAREWARE
you are both allowed to share this program with your friends and business
associates. We will be greatful if you should do so. Just please remember
that we pay our bills and eat by the income we receive from computer software
and hardware. We are sure you will find this program "User Friendly".
USE OF THE PROGRAM
__________________
This program came to you in a self-extracting file and contains the
Laser Envelope Printing program .... ENVS.EXE
Windows PIF file for this program .. ENVS.PIF
This usage guide ................... KXP4410.TXT
A batch file to start the program .. ENVELOPE.BAT (DOS METHOD)
READ ME file to see this doc ....... READ_ME.BAT
PRINT ME file to print this doc .... PRINT_ME.BAT
The other included files are for use with BBS systems and are really not
essential for use with this program. These are text files and may be viewed
by issuing the command TYPE FILE_ID.DIZ or by opening the file with the
notebook in MS-WINDOWS.
To make the program work type ENVELOPE and hit the ENTER key on your keyboard.
This program will type 5 lines on your envelope and so it needs 7 types of
information from you. (If in doubt Hit ENTER) See the example below:
1st Line: Joe Smith
2nd Line: 123 Happy Way
3rd Line: PO BOX 100
City: Chicopee
State: MA
Zip: 01013
Attention: *** ACCOUNTS PAYABLE DEPT ***
Now you can type ANYTHING you like into these prompts. If you are using this
for typing an envelope (Not to be actually mailed) and intend to give it to
someone by hand you could do the following:
1st Line: XYZ Window Making Company
2nd Line: <---No Entry just hit ENTER
3rd Line: #### The QUOTE on new computer software ####
City: <---No Entry just hit ENTER
State: <---No entry just hit ENTER
ZIP: <---No entry just hit ENTER
Attention: Mr Joseph Smith, President
If you did the above, you will get the following:
XYZ Window Making Company
#### The QUOTE on new computer software ####
ATTENTION: Mr Joseph Smith, President
As you can observe, blank lines are eliminated if not necessary as a part
of the addressing procedure. However, if you don't like this feature, pay
the fee and request that the program leave in the blank lines and we'll
do it for you. Or if you would like to have another personal version of
this program so that you could put your own home address on a blank envelope
just request it and we shall send you a (2 for 1) two programs for one fee.
See not only is the program "User Friendly" but so are we to you! As a
registered user you can have the program updated if you move and need a new
address at "HALF PRICE" for the next 5 years. You need a color monitor
either EGA, VGA or SVGA, and you can run this program from either DOS or
MS WINDOWS 3.1 within a window if you should choose to do so. For the DOS
folks all you need to do is put ENVS.EXE is a directory and type ENVS or
you may type ENVELOPE and hit ENTER. For the Windows folks, copy both
ENVS.EXE and ENVS.PIF into your WINDOWS directory. Then go to the menu bar
in PROGRAM MANAGER, Choose NEW, then PROGRAM ITEM. A Dialog box appears
and type a name like LASER ENVELOPES in the first line. For the 2nd line,
type ENVS.PIF and for the 3rd line type \WINDOWS Then you can HIT ENTER
and you are done. You can run the program by double chicking on the ICON.
The SEARCH function is twofold, meaning that you can browse through the names
by hitting SEARCH and then repeatedly hitting NEXT till you get the name you
wish to print. Or if this is taking too long you can type any part of the
NAME and the program will show you every record which conforms with what
you have typed. For example: you could type INC and it would show you every
record which has INC as a part of the NAME.
If you push down the RETURN ADDR button it will print a message where your
Name and Return Address will go if you register this program. If you have a
Mouse and wish to use it a mouse cursor will appear and can be used with
either DOS or WINDOWS.
The Names and Addresses themselves are maintained in a plain TEXT file called
ENV.TXT and will be created by the program as you print ENVELOPES. It DATE
STAMPS the listing and so forms a log of those envelopes you have sent out.
This file will grow over time in size and will require some maintenance on
your part. If you are using DOS 5 or DOS 6 you can use the EDIT program to
remove address records which you no longer need and makes the look-up(search)
faster. Just be sure to eliminate entire records at a time. If you leave a
blank line between records you will have problems. For WINDOWS users you
should use the NOTEPAD to load ENV.TXT and proceed in the same manner as the
DOS folks to clean us the file. Interestingly as soon as you have the file
loaded into either EDIT or NOTEPAD you can PRINT out this file as a record
of who you have sent letters to. DO NOT MESS WITH THE COMMAS in this file as
they MARK the end of each field. If you should accidently erase one it will
really mess up your log. As a last resort you CAN erase the file ENV.TXT but
then you will have to start all over again entering and printing envelopes in
order to rebuild your search (LOOKUP) function.
Naturally, you may wonder "What if I move and need an address change?
Will they be there?". Well, we have been at this location since 1972 and we
are not going anywhere! We will be here to answer questions, provide upgrades
or changes, and help you and your company be more productive and professional.
It is a fact that a lot of professional individuals have almost retired their
typewriters, except for typing names and addresses directly onto envelopes.
We feel that this is much more personal rather than the MAILING LABEL method.
