Section I. Introduction
Welcome to the World of Electronic Tax Filing! This electronic
forms package, TAXFAX93, allows you to input all of your tax
information from Form 1040EZ for filing to the IRS. This version is
for single taxpayers. We have version for taxpayers with a spouse,
please check the shareware registration form for more information if
you're interested.
This package was created utilizing Teleforms 2.0.
Section I.a. Installation
The installation procedure is actually quite straightforward. We
suggest that you make a new subdirectory (call it anything you
wish) and copy the zip distribution set into it. Then, unzip the
distribution set by keying in:
PKUNZIP TAXFAX93
followed by your ENTER key.
Next, take a look at the documentation, and print out the files
with an extension of PS (8453.PS , 1040EZ.PS). If you don't have
access to a postscript printer, you can always find one at KINKO's
or at the larger KWIK KOPY franchise stores. If you prefer to use
the printer dump files for your specific printer, we have them.
Take a look at the file SHAREWAR.REG for more information.
Section I.b. Task Flow
Now you can actually use the form 1040EZ. Please notice in the
top section of the form HOW to make your letters and numbers.
Penmanship is NOT an issue here, however you DO need to print
in block letters (like your in 3rd grade writing class).
The first data entry section asks for your personal information and
is fairly straightforward. MI stands for Middle Initial. If you
do not have a middle name, please omit the MI entry block.
The second data entry section may be a bit ominous at first, so I
will explain all of the entry blocks in this section.
SSN stands for Social Security Number. Please enter your nine
digit Social Security Number in this entry block, without the dashes.
The data entry block immediately to the right of the SSN block says
PECF and stands for the Presidential Election Campaign Fund. Please
blacken either YES or NO in this entry block.
New for 1993 is the Scholarship Amount entry block. Please enter
the amount of your Scholarship, if any.
Line 2 corresponds to your Wages, Salaries and Tips. Please enter
the amount of your wages, salaries, or tips here.
Line 3a corresponds to your Taxable Interest. If you have any
Taxable Interest, please enter it here.
Line 3b corresponds to your Tax Exempt Interest. If you have any
Tax Exempt Interest, please enter it here.
Line 4 corresponds to your Adjusted Gross Income, and is usually
the total of the sum of Line 2 plus Line 3a plus Line 3b.
Line 5 (Yes/No) is the Dependent Indicator. If someone else can
claim you as a dependent, fill in the YES circle, otherwise fill
in the NO circle.
Line 5 $ corresponds to your Combined Standard Deduction and
Personal Exemption. Please enter the amount in this entry block.
Line 6 corresponds to your Taxable Income, and is usually the
amount obtained when you subtract Line 5 $ from Line 4. Please
enter the amount in this entry block.
Line 7 corresponds to your Witholding amount, and is usually
found on your W-2 form. Please enter the amount in this entry
block.
Line 8 corresponds to your Total Tax, and is usually obtained
from a table in the instruction booklet that comes with the IRS
Form 1040EZ. Please enter the amount in this entry block.
Line 9 corresponds to your REFUND, and is usually the positive
amount obtained when you subtract Line 8 from Line 7. Please enter
the amount in this entry block.
Line 10 corresponds to your AMOUNT OWED, and is usually the negative
amount obtained when you subtract Line 8 from Line 7.
The next entry block asks for your Occupation. If you are a student,
put STUDENT in this entry block.
Now fill out your form 8453, and print the invoice page on a dot
matrix or non-Postscript Laser Printer. Fill out the invoice;
attach all required forms to your form 8453, and copies of all
of the things asked for for the attachment page.
Fax out the 1040EZ form to 713-662-3403 without a cover page.
Mail everything else, including payment, to the address on the
invoice.
As soon as we get your mailing, we start the processing of your
tax information to the IRS. It could take as long as a week
for your information to reach us via US Mail, so please be a bit
patient.
The very same day we start your processing, we send your information
to the Internal Revenue Service. It usually takes anywhere from
one to four days for the IRS to process your return.
As soon as the IRS tells us that your return was processed, we
will fax out a confirmation letter to you.
Once your return is processed by the IRS, it takes anywhere from
10 days to three weeks for you to receive your refund. If you've
elected to take the Direct Deposit route, you should get your
refund within two weeks of receiving our confirmation letter.
If you are expecting a paper check, you should be receiving it
within three weeks.
Section I.c. IRS Form 8453
What is this form? It is your declaration, that as a taxpayer,
you are filing electronically to the IRS. The IRS requires that
your fill it out and sign it. The IRS also requires that we furnish
it to you. We ask that you print it out and use it. If we receive
your mailer or envelope without it, it will delay the processing of
your tax return. If you are anticipating a refund, it could delay
the refund for up to four weeks as we and you, the taxpayer, get
caught up in a hideous US MAIL scenario. We will mail you the
Form if you forget, but remember, the concept here is speed, right?
Section II Hardware Requirements
The hardware requirements for this program are fairly simple and
straightforward. You will need to have a computer with a minimum
processor of an 8086, and 256K of RAM with a monochrome monitor.
We've also tested this package on the Macintosh and it seems to
work just fine. There are no humongous memory requirements for this
package.
You will also need a POSTSCRIPT printer to print the forms. If you
don't have immediate access to a postscript printer, feel free to
take the printer dump files on a diskette to your friend, associate,
or computer lab where there is one. There is usually a POSTSCRIPT
printer of some type at all KINKO'S outlets.
Section III Shareware Registration
Why should you register this package? Well, there are two main
reasons and one minor one. Here are the two main reasons:
1. When you register, we'll send you the latest and greatest
version of the electronic forms straight to your door via US MAIL.
2. If you need a printer dump file for your specific printer,
we have it (within reason, of course). Take a look at the
enclosed form (sharewar.reg) and see if your printer is
listed.
And now the minor reason:
I need the MONEY! But seriously, I am a starving college student
and I think I may have hit on something substantial with this
software product. I have two more semesters to go and I'll wrap
up the BS in computer science. When you register, I'll be able to
say, "Gee, those three months in a dark room sucking down coffee
sure was worth it!" and you'll be participating in the shareware
author reward system.
Here's what the form looks like:

Section IV. Payment
While this package is free, and it doesn't really cost you anything
to use this package, you will, most likely, want to actually file
your tax information to the IRS. You cannot do this directly as
a taxpayer (If you could, we wouldn't have written this package!).
You will be faxing out the 1040EZ form and mailing the 8453 form
back to us, along with several forms that are printed on
your printer. We do charge for filing your return to the IRS.
The fee, we think, is nominal compared to other tax-related
service companies.
We accept Visa, Mastercard, money orders, cash, personal and
business checks. The fee schedule is as follows:
Form Price
1040EZ 15.95
Texas Residents please add 7.5% tax to your total.

Section V. Errata
A. Refund Delay Conditions - the following was taken directly from IRS
publication 1346 and is provided for your convenience.
The following conditions may delay refunds and/or change refund amounts:
1. Taxpayer owes back taxes, either individual or business (refund offset).
2. Taxpayer owes deliquent child support (refund offset).
3. Taxpayer has certain deliquent federal debit, such as student loans, etc.
(refund offset).
4. The last name and social security number of the primary taxpayer must be
the same as on last year's return or the return will be delayed at least one
week for rematching. It is strongly suggested that you use the name ans ssn
as it appears on the mailing label of the tax package.
5. The Estimated Tax payments reported on the return do not match the ES Tax
Payments recorded on the IRS master file. This generally occurs when:
(a) the spouse made separate payments and filed a joint
return or vice versa; or
(b) the return was filed before the last ES payment was
credited to the account.
6. The taxpayer has a Schedule E claiming a deduction for a questionable tax
shelter.
7. The taxpayer is claiming a blatantly unallowable deduction.
8. The taxpayer is filing a tax return for the first time as a Primary
taxpayer and is requesting a Direct Deposit of the tax refund. Taxpayers who
have previously filed a tax return as a spouse or whose last name has changed
since filing a tax return is considered a "First Time Filer".
B. Dollar Values
The IRS does not accept decimals in its computer centers, so please round
up or down, depending on the amount. You usually have twelve digits in a
field to represent a number, and you may include a negative sign (-) in
your entry.
Section VI. Appendix
This Appendix will not have the usual "find it on page 3" type of entries
in it. Rather, there will be some explanations written in this section.
