Notes to Beta users - Beta Release .99.2 - 26 Sep 93
Thank you for helping in Beta testing of Mail2Fax.
I hope that testing will be completed by mid October.
Notes on the package:
The major change in this release to add more diagnostic options to help in
properly setting up M2F. The system will now optionally warn you about
certain configuration options that were not specified and about improperly
formatted search files (like FAXALIAS.TXT).
We've also added a troubleshooting guide and upgraded the documentation.
See Mail2Fax.HST for the complete list of changes.
As released, the software does NOT support the FORWARD mode of operation.
You'll find this referred to in the documentation, however the code in the
program has been disabled. (FORWARD mode is where unread mail after a few
days automatically gets faxed to the user .)
Unless there is an urgent demand for this FORWARD mode it won't be completed
for a few months.
The package includes the source code for the FAX command (SENDFAX.PPS). Feel
free to modify this, but only for your own use. Do not distribute your
modifications.
Areas that require some attention during testing:
These are areas that are implemented and have been tested, but are not in day
to day use on my own board, and therefor could stand further testing.
1. handling of long distance fax numbers
2. fax number screening - handling of acceptable NNX entries
3. fax number screening - handling of BLOCKTN numbers
4. testing with fax modems other than ZYXEL
5. very long coversheet and reply text
6. handling of many @variables@ (20+ entries) in coversheet or in a reply
message)
Mechanics of Beta testing:
Please report any problems you observe in the software, doccumentation,
functionality etc. Report at least once every 7-10 days.
I prefer PUBLIC messages. The reasons are simple. I want the publicity.
Public messages also give me an incentive to make damn sure my stuff is
tested before you receive it.
The Beta version of the program has a 45 day lifespan. (I would like you
to obtain a fresh copy every 10-20 days).
I Can be Reached:
I will be monitoring the Rime Pcb Support conference as well as the Nanet
Sysops conference. Other conferences are fine - just let me know.
