Jcomm is a serial communications program for the IBM PC family of computers.
It was written to re-aquaint the author with the Turbo Pascal language. It's
not super fancy or feature loaded, but what did you expect for *FREE*?
It was developed on a 386/33 and has been casually tested on XT and AT class
machines and seems to function OK. It does have the benefit of being fairly
small (as Comm programs go). It has also been tested with a couple of V.32
9600 baud modems. It may not properly interpret busy and no answer messages
from other modems. If this happens, turn off "monitor" in the "modem settings"
area. Uploads and downloads are supported via external protocols. The Share-
ware program "GSZ" works well with Jcomm and is included in the Jcomm Zip file.
(note that shareware is NOT free)
When you start Jcomm type "F1" to see the available commands. They should be
fairly self-explanatory and typical of other communication programmers. Jcomm
can log activity , shell to DOS, let you select the screen colors, set the
comm port parameters and has a 20 number dial directory. ANSI graphics support
is implemented in Jcomm and seems to work fairly well on the local BBS
systems. Escape gets you out of most menus, an entry of "0" will get you
out of dial directory operations that escape won't.
Jcomm is offered as "FREEWARE". This means you can use it with a clear
conscience, I don't want your money (how often do you hear that?). Jcomm is
offered as-is, without warranty of any kind, and without acceptance of
any liability. If it destroys your system, you accepted that risk. (Gotta
try to keep the lawyers at bay).
If all this didn't scare you, have fun! It really does work pretty well and
was fun to write (wish I had the time to really do it right!).
