  31. |        IBM OS2 Version 2.X, ES Version 1.X, and Novell                        
  32. | Version 3.11 are assumed, otherwise there may be some                         
  33. | variation to this overview.

  35. |        This information is offered as a high-level overview                   
  36. | to assist in installing Novell Netware requester and OS2 in                   
  37. | the same machine. Consult the appropriate publications for                    
  38. | the product for complete information. It is recommended to                    
  39. | do the planning tasks (fill out the worksheet, etc..)                         
  40. | suggested by the individual products being installed prior                    
  41. | to installation.                                                              
  42. |                                                                               
  43. |        First, install OS/2 (base operating system). Make                      
  44. | sure OS/2 is operable with no unresolved errors.                              
  45. |                                                                               
  46. |        Second, install ES which will allow the installation                   
  47. | of Communication Manager, Database, and Utilities. The                        
  48. | adapter cards to be used by Communication Manager (SDLC,                      
  49. | 3270, etc..) should be installed.                                             
  50. |                                                                               
  51. |        Third, Communication Manager (CM) should be                            
  52. | configured to support the required communications, and the                    
  53. | final VERIFY is done with no unresolved errors.                               
  54. |                                                                               
  55. |        Fourth, CONFIG.SYS and PROTOCOL.INI should now be                      
  56. | saved to a secure place (preferably not on the boot drive).                   
  57. | These can be used if the one wants to return to this level                    
  58. | of installation. Copy CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGNTV.SYS and                          
  59. | PROTOCOL.INI to PROTONTV.INI (Native CONFIG.SYS and                           
  60. | PROTOCOL.INI) for future reference.                                           
  61. |                                                                               
  62. |        Fifth, there are two Lan Support Modules commonly                      
  63. | used for this configuration (LANSUPP (IBM) or ODINSUPP                        
  64. | (NOVELL)). The planning tasks done earlier should help to                     
  65. | decide which one is right for you. The OS2 Lan Requester                      
  66. | code (if used) should be installed now. The Novell Requester                  
  67. | code should be installed last. IBM Flash 2129 (Document ID                    
  68. | G010367) shows the recommended appearance of the CONFIG.SYS,                  
  69. | PROTOCOL.INI, and the NET.CFG for both Lan Support Modules.                   
  70. | When the changes to these files are complete, shutdown the                    
  71. | workstation and reboot (a "cold" boot to reset the adapter                    
  72. | is recommended). The installation is now complete. Copies of                  
  73. | the current CONFIG.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI, and NET.CFG used for                    
  74. | future reference need to be saved after the the reboot. Copy                  
  75. | CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGREF.SYS, PROTOCOL.INI to PRTCLREF.INI,                     
  76. | and NET.CFG to NETREF.CFG.

  78. | **IMPORTANT                                                                   
  79. |                                                                               
  80. |        Changes made in the CM configuration will cause a                      
  81. | "VERIFY". This VERIFY results in the PROTOCOL.INI (defined                    
  82. | for coexistance between ES/1 and NetWare) being modified.                     
  83. | The reference copy of the PROTOCOL.INI (named PRTCLREF.INI)                   
  84. | should be compared with the PROTOCOL.INI that was changed by                  
  85. | the VERIFY. Note the updates made by VERIFY, copy                             
  86. | PRTCLREF.INI to PROTOCOL.INI (overwriting PROTOCOL.INI made                   
  87. | by VERIFY) then add the updates noted to PROTOCOL.INI. Make                   
  88. | sure the CONFIG.SYS and NET.CFG look like the reference                       
  89. | copies. A reboot is recommended, although a CM Exit and                       
  90. | restart may be all that is necessary. Insure that the                         
  91. | workstation functions as desired. New reference copies                        
  92. | should be made. Copy PROTOCOL.INI to PROTCLREF.INI,                           
  93. | CONFIG.SYS to CNFIGREF.SYS, and NET.CFG to NETREF.CFG.
